Chapter 333: Chapter 333: Are You Still Holding a Grudge Against Mom and Dad
The practice of "exchanging brides" wasn’t unheard of back in their hometown. When a man was getting on in years and still couldn’t find a wife due to some personal failing, his family would trade an unmarried daughter to another family. That way, both households could solve their bachelor problem.
But the crucial question now was: which girl did the Qin family have left to trade away?
Qin Na was already married. Among their immediate families, there were only three unmarried girls left: Qin Xiaolan, who was just sixteen; Xiao Shi, who was only ten; and that left... nineteen-year-old Qin Jiao.
Su Yun’s eyes flew wide. "If they dare to get any ideas about Xiao Jiao, I’ll grab a kitchen knife and chop them to bits!"
Su Yun usually seemed so gentle. Back when she was selling steamed buns, everyone had praised her for her good temper. And it was true—she had a good temper. But if anyone truly provoked her by hurting the two daughters she cherished most, she would fight them to the death.
Sun Li, however, could completely empathize. If anyone dared to target her Xiao Lan, she wouldn’t just take a kitchen knife to them—she’d go to their house and burn it to the ground!
As for Qin Na, she certainly wasn’t as fierce as her two sisters-in-law. She was just incredibly grateful that Sun Jianhua had come along, allowing her to marry early and escape that family.
When Qin Jiao walked in, she saw the three women looking absolutely furious. She smiled and asked, "What’s wrong? Who got the three of you so worked up?"
"Who else? The family back home!" Su Yun never hid things from her daughter, so she immediately explained the situation. After listening, Qin Jiao just laughed. "I thought it was some big deal. Auntie, when you go back, I’ll buy you a bunch of North City specialties to take with you. If anyone asks, just casually mention that I’m married. Since I’m already married, they can’t exactly force me to get married a second time, can they?"
Sun Li smiled and nodded.
Su Yun was still fuming. She really couldn’t understand what on earth her in-laws were thinking.
Qin Na quickly chimed in to soothe her. "There, there. Xiao Jiao is married now, right? We’re all going to be in North City from now on, far away from all that. We don’t have to waste our time thinking about their infuriating schemes."
Qin Na was utterly disappointed in her own parents, which was why she had followed Sun Jianhua to North City to build a life without a second thought. Life was a little tough, but it was far better than what she had endured before. And besides, Sun Jianhua treated her so well.
At this, Sun Li found herself envying the other two women. Fortunately, Qin Bogang always listened to her, and since he rarely had any money on him, he probably couldn’t stir up much trouble.
But as Qin Jiao’s gaze swept over her aunt, she suddenly remembered something. ’In my past life, when I came to North City around the time Xiao Lan was taking her college entrance exams, I think Uncle and Auntie got divorced. I never knew why.’
After a moment’s thought, Qin Jiao leaned in and quietly warned her aunt, "Auntie, you should keep a close eye on things. My uncle is too soft-hearted. Don’t let someone take advantage of him."
"Yes, I know."
A moment later, Qin Xiaolan ran in, pulling Qin Jiao into the next room to share secrets. Meanwhile, Xiao Shi was giving Xiao Cheng a tour, pointing out the different vegetables and fruit trees. Aside from Du Liya and Beidou, who were inside on an international call, Qin Zhonghui and Qin Bogang were smoking together in the yard. Sun Jianhua was out on an errand and hadn’t yet returned.
Seeing that they were finally alone, Qin Bogang couldn’t resist and started lecturing his younger brother again.
"Zhonghui, are you still holding a grudge against Mom and Dad?"
