Chapter 11: Veins of Hidden Truth
Chapter 11
Dawn bled across the desert like a fresh wound, washing the Iron Reapers compound in crimson and gold.
Rowe stirred beneath the blankets, wincing as the fresh stitches along her side pulled tight. The wound she’d reopened during the escape from the crossroads had been stitched cleanly, but every breath reminded her how close she’d come to losing everything.
Beside her, Reaper was already awake.
Propped on one elbow, he watched her in the quiet stillness of the room. Morning light softened the hard lines of his face, but it couldn’t erase the concern lingering in his steel-gray eyes.
"You should rest today," he said quietly, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
Rowe smiled faintly and shook her head.
"I can’t."
She shifted closer until her forehead rested lightly against his.
"My father left those clues for me. I’m not sitting this one out."
A quiet sigh escaped him.
"I knew that would be your answer."
He slipped an arm around her, drawing her gently against his chest.
For a little while, neither of them spoke.
Outside, the compound was already waking to another day of war.
Inside, they allowed themselves one brief moment of peace.
Reaper tilted her chin upward and kissed her softly.
It was unhurried.
Comforting.
A silent promise that, despite everything waiting beyond the bedroom door, they were still here.
Still together.
When they finally pulled apart, he rested his forehead against hers.
"We finish this," he whispered.
"Together."
After a quick shower and a simple breakfast, they headed for the chapel.
The senior officers were already gathered around the large oak table.
Ghost leaned against one wall with his arms folded.
Viper studied a map spread across the tabletop.
Raven stood beside Elena, who still looked pale but noticeably stronger than the day before.
The documents recovered from the crossroads lay neatly organized before them.
Reaper stepped forward.
"The coordinates lead to an abandoned mine in the western canyons."
His gaze swept across the room.
"Small team only."
"Ghost. Viper. Rowe. Me."
"The rest of you stay here and secure the compound."
No one argued.
Within minutes, engines thundered to life.
The desert stretched endlessly beneath the rising sun.
Towering red cliffs watched over the winding trails like ancient guardians.
Rowe rode beside Reaper, their motorcycles keeping perfect pace.
Neither spoke much.
There was nothing left to say.
At a brief stop to check the map, Reaper caught her hand before she climbed back onto her bike.
"I hate bringing you into this," he admitted quietly.
She looked up at him.
"You didn’t."
He frowned.
"I chose this."
She squeezed his hand.
"So did I."
A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
He leaned down and kissed her gently before stepping away.
"Come back to me."
She nodded.
"Always."
The entrance to the abandoned mine was almost invisible beneath years of collapsed timber and desert brush.
Inside, the temperature dropped immediately.
Their flashlights carved narrow paths through the darkness as they descended deeper into the tunnels.
At the end of a winding passage, they found it.
A reinforced steel safe bolted into the rock itself.
Reaper unfolded the letter recovered from the crossroads and carefully entered the combination.
A heavy click echoed through the chamber.
The door swung open.
No one spoke.
Inside were stacks of ledgers, photographs, financial records, and flash drives.
Evidence.
Years of it.
Every document pointed toward the same horrifying truth.
The Devil’s Disciples hadn’t acted alone.
Someone inside the Iron Reapers had helped destroy Rowe’s family.
Resting beneath the papers was a sealed metal box.
Rowe opened it carefully.
Inside lay a DNA report.
Her hands trembled as she unfolded it.
The results confirmed what her heart had already accepted.
Raven was her sister.
Not by rumor.
Not by hope.
By blood.
Beneath the report rested another envelope.
This one bore her name.
She recognized her father’s handwriting instantly.
Taking a steadying breath, she unfolded the letter.
"My dearest Rowan,
If you’re reading this, then I failed.
Your mother was taken because she knew too much, and your sister was born into the shadows to protect the truth.
Trust Reaper.
He stayed loyal when others turned against us.
Find your sister.
Burn the rot from this club.
Our bloodline must survive.
I love you.
Always.
—Dad."
Silence settled over the chamber.
A single tear escaped before Rowe could stop it.
Reaper stepped beside her without saying a word.
His arm settled around her shoulders.
She leaned into him.
Across the room, Raven quietly wiped at her own eyes.
"He never stopped fighting for us," she whispered.
"No," Rowe replied.
"He never did."
The silence was shattered beneath the sharp crackle of Viper’s radio.
"Movement."
Everyone froze.
"Multiple bikes."
A pause.
"Disciples."
Another.
"And... damn it..."
His voice hardened.
"I count two wearing Reaper cuts."
Gunfire exploded through the tunnels.
Bullets slammed into the stone walls, sending sparks flying.
"Move!" Reaper shouted.
The mine erupted into chaos.
Ghost laid down covering fire while Raven pulled Rowe behind a support beam.
A traitor rushed around the corner.
Rowe fired twice.
He dropped instantly.
Another bullet grazed her arm, burning through her sleeve.
She barely slowed.
Reaper reached her moments later.
"You hit?"
"Just a graze."
He nodded once.
"We’re leaving."
Working together, the team fought their way toward daylight, protecting both one another and the evidence they’d recovered.
Minutes later, motorcycle engines roared to life.
The Iron Reapers disappeared into the desert, carrying enough proof to shake the club to its foundations.
Back at the compound, Doc immediately treated the wounded.
Fortunately, Rowe’s injury was minor.
By nightfall, the chapel had become an investigation room.
Ledgers were examined.
Photographs identified.
Names compared.
Three members were arrested before midnight.
No one celebrated.
If three traitors had remained hidden this long...
How many more were still inside the compound?
Late that night, after the meetings had finally ended, Reaper found Rowe standing alone outside their room.
Without a word, he slipped his arms around her.
She leaned back against him, exhaustion replacing the adrenaline that had carried her through the day.
For several quiet minutes, they simply stood together beneath the desert sky.
Neither needed to speak.
They had survived another day.
For now, that was enough.
Eventually, they went inside.
Hours later, the vibration of Reaper’s burner phone broke the silence.
He reached for it.
One message waited.
The safe was only the surface.
Dig deeper.
Your mother’s location is next...
If you survive the week.
Rowe read the message over his shoulder.
A cold knot settled in her stomach.
Every answer they uncovered led to another question.
And somewhere inside the Iron Reapers...
The final traitor was still waiting.
