Chapter 49: Chapter 49. Wendigos.

Aiden kept his focus on the basilisk as the others focused on cultivating.

Soon, the gaze of the basilisk swept across his location for a moment before it completely turned away.

Whether or not it saw Aiden, Aiden didn’t know. Perhaps it deemed Aiden and company as too incompetent for nourishment and turned away from them. Or, perhaps it was simply looking in that direction to see if there were still some prey left for it to feed on.

"Who cares? That’s not what matters. It’s turned away. It means it will hunt something else in the vicinity around or beyond the mountain it’s circling about," Aiden thought.

Soon, the basilisk shot ice chains from its mouth towards a particular direction.

A large creature roared at this moment. Aiden did not see beyond the mountain the basilisk was circling around, so he only heard the screams of the other creature in the direction the basilisk shot ice chains towards.

The basilisk yanked the ice chain towards it with its teeth.

Aiden saw a creature the size of half a mountain flying through the air, attached to the ice chain.

It was a lion-looking creature. It had bruises all over its body. Blood was leaking from its body as the ice chains had wrapped themselves around it.

The basilisk leaped into the air and swallowed the large lion-looking creature mid-air.

The basilisk gulped the creature down.

Aiden felt a chill crawl up his spine as he observed everything. This basilisk was too terrifying.

After it swallowed the other creature, its figure crashed down towards the mountain. When its figure touched the mountain, the mountain completely flattened.

"What sort of physical toughness does this ice basilisk have?" Aiden sighed.

The red eyes of the basilisk started to return to a blue color, and it stopped acting violent.

Clearly, it was satisfied after eating the other creature.

It lay on the ground where the mountain used to be, lazily. Or perhaps, it was too heavy after swallowing the other colossal creature to move.

Aiden observed it patiently. Three nights passed in the pocket world. Eventually, the large creature closed its eyes and fell asleep completely.

"It’s time to leave," Aiden said.

Everyone’s eyes snapped open.

"The basilisk is asleep. Everything went according to plan," Aiden told them.

The group moved out. Everyone took out their weapons.

They bolted off the mountain and landed somewhere before it.

Then everyone used their affinities to bolster their speed.

Their figures flashed across icy terrains with swift speed.

As for Aiden, his physical prowess was enough to enhance his speed.

Aiden was still scanning across for any unforeseen threats as they moved.

Eventually, the group arrived before the sleeping basilisk.

It was very large.

Its body was heaving up and down.

It did not notice them.

Blobs of blood appeared before Aiden and transformed into a large crimson hand.

The large crimson hand floated before Aiden.

"Hop on," Aiden said.

Everyone stood in the palm of the large crimson hand.

The large crimson hand floated on top of the basilisk and left the area where the basilisk was sleeping.

Everyone was relieved they had managed to escape that terrifying creature.

"Several beginner and intermediate rank 1 chaotic beasts spotted ahead," Aiden said.

"We stick to the plan, right?" Seraphina asked.

"Yeah," Aiden nodded.

The group eventually arrived at where the creatures were.

The creatures numbered three hundred: 100 beginner rank 1 creatures and 200 intermediate rank 1 creatures.

They were extremely tall and emaciated. They had two hands and two feet. They had razor-sharp claws and bulgy eyes. Their skin was tightly clinging to their bones.

"Wendigos," Candice said.

"Yep. All I see is energy cores and money, my friends," Luke smiled.

"So that you can buy your girlfriend a better birthday gift?" Seraphina said.

"Naa. I have my father’s money for that," Luke said shamelessly.

Aiden, Asmodeus, and Desmonda ignored the trio and scanned the creatures.

Luke, Seraphina, and Candice also became serious and scanned the creatures beneath them.

"Do we engage from the ground or from here?" Asmodeus asked.

"Engaging them from here would have been a safer option, but we may also draw the attention of aerial creatures from our current spot. The only option is to engage them from the ground," Aiden said.

Everyone agreed with him.

The crimson hand turned into blobs of blood and transformed into a crimson scythe.

Aiden held it.

The group were descending from the skies.

A cerulean-looking hammer appeared in the hands of Asmodeus. An ethereal hue surrounded it.

A shiny staff appeared in the hands of Desmonda.

The moment she held it, lightning circled across the staff.

A crucifix-looking sword appeared in Luke’s hands. Several haloes of light danced across it.

Candice held a halberd. Streaks of ice shifted across its surface.

Seraphina held a fan in her hand. Each time she waved the fan slightly, undulations of sound would ring across.

The three hundred Wendigos looked up and snarled.

Their bulgy eyes gleamed with ferocious hunger.

Prey.

Their claws gleamed with malevolence as streaks of darkness danced across their hands. They snarled menacingly.

They swiped their hands upwards.

Arcs of darkness swept upwards towards Aiden and company.

The group descended with their weapons.

The weapons cleaved through the arcs of darkness and obliterated them.

The group landed in the midst of the Wendigos.

"What’s the plan, Captain Vhorn?" Asmodeus asked.

"Asmodeus and Desmonda, handle the beginner rank 1 creatures. The rest of us will deal with the intermediate rank 1 creatures," Aiden replied.

"Roger," everyone replied.

Then chaos descended.

Asmodeus brought his hammer down. It pulsed with ethereal light. The hammer appeared in the line of vision of a beginner rank 1 wendigo.

It wanted to swipe its claws and launch an attack of darkness towards Asmodeus. But, it felt as if a heavy weight had descended on it. Gravity. Asmodeus had imbued gravity into his hammer.

The creature could not move.

The hammer came down on its head.

It was pinned into the ground completely. When the hammer left its body, its head was gone.

Asmodeus moved to another beginner rank 1 wendigo, each strike reaping a life.

Desmonda was not idle either. She moved a few paces away from Asmodeus. Her staff and her whole figure were covered in lightning. Each time the staff met a beginner rank 1 wendigo, the lightning did not just pierce through their flesh; it paralyzed them before balls of lightning would shoot from her other hand and tear them apart.

She was a walking catastrophe.

Luke moved with ethereal grace. He was like a holy knight. His sword was covered in a burning light which warmed the temperature of the surroundings. He slashed through the intermediate rank 1 Wendigos like slicing through butter. Each strike did not just end a life; it burned them, their charred corpses falling lifelessly on the snow-covered ground.

Light affinity was known for healing, but it was also known for its ability to imitate the destructive power of fire.

Candice’s halberd swiped across the place with purpose. To her, her halberd was a vessel through which she launched lethal, condensed strikes of ice.

Each swipe of the halberd unleashed arcs, blades, and arrows of ice that slaughtered several intermediate rank 1 wendigos.

Seraphina danced like a butterfly. Her movements were swift and elegant. She waved her fan with gentle, preternatural strides. Each wave of her fan caused vibrations and sound waves to spread across the place, blasting several intermediate rank 1 wendigos apart.

And then, there was Aiden...
