Old Master Bai had told her how her mother and his wife looked like they were cut from the same mould. What else could it mean? It meant that the one at the Bai family did not resemble either Old Master Bai or Old Madam Bai, but no one dared to investigate things cleanly. Either it was because they were too lazy or too afraid of finding out the truth.
Bai Meiyue did not want to tear Old Master Bai’s face so she never mentioned these things, but her mother had a knot in her heart, and it could not be solved without a proper explanation. So if the Bai family thought that they could appear in front of her mother and then extend their helping hand in the name of an apology, they were wrong. When Bai Wenxuan heard Bai Meiyue’s complaints, his eyes darkened. It seemed like his cousin had quite an opinion on his family. She was first sent to a family where boys were treated better than girls, and then she was sold off to a bastard who cheated on her. Her children did not fare well either.
If not for the fact that the apocalypse started and Bai Meiyue awakened a supernatural ability that could protect her mother, who knows how much more his aunt might have suffered?
"I understand. If you do not want to accept us, then we will not force you to acknowledge us either." Bai Wenxuan solemnly promised.
Bai Meiyue did not say anything. She simply gave a nod as she had nothing more to say.
Seeing that the air was about to turn freezing cold, Fox immediately chimed in. "Ah, Master Wenxuan, did you not say that you came here to see Yang Wei and your son?"
Bai Wenxuan nodded and turned to look at Bai Meiyue. He asked in a sombre voice, "Where is Yang Wei? Call her out."
"Yang Wei? She left the safe base to look for you," sneered Bai Meiyue, remembering the good things that Yang Wei did before leaving. "She even made half of the people in the safe base rebel and leave with her. She promised that as long as they could follow her to the capital, there would be food to eat and clean water to drink."
When Bai Wenxuan and Fox heard Bai Meiyue’s words, their faces could not help but darken. Hehe? Clean water to drink and meat to eat? There was no way the capital base could provide those things. Even though the safe base in the capital looked quite fancy and wonderful from the outside, the truth was—it was empty at the moment! The supernatural ability users were fighting to death to collect supplies, and there was also the problem of mutated bugs as well as the doomsday virus. Things were not going well, and the Bai family could not control anything at the moment.
Even the news about the night market and everything was false. These were just gimmicks to make supernatural ability users come and join the safe base.
When Bai Wenxuan thought about how that foolish woman had actually gone to look for him at the capital, he was so angry that he closed his eyes and pinched the space between his brows. He wondered what was wrong with Yang Wei. He had clearly told her to stay put and not to run around. Was it that hard to listen to him?
He pursed his lips and turned to look at Fox. he could not blame Bai Meiyue; after all, she had suffered damages as well. Yang Wei, that idiot, did not even know the conditions of the safe base and left this one. What was she thinking? What was going to happen to her once the supernatural ability users realised that they were lied to?
"Then...then..." Fox was also worried, but he was more worried about the baby. If Yang Wei took away the baby, then it would be really troublesome. Where were they supposed to get the baby? And where would they even find them? The times were like this now; could Yang Wei even take care of the child?
"Are you worried about the child? There is no need to worry. Yang Wei did not want to take care of the child and left him in my care. You already know how much she cares about this son of hers. She does not even want to feed him; I had to hire two nannies for him. How could she take the child with her?" Bai Meiyue snorted when she saw the two men worrying about the child. Did they think that Yang Wei was a caring mother? She never paid attention to the child when she was living in the safe base; how could she even care about the child when she was about to leave?
She did not even look at the child when she left the safe base, according to Shen Zhen and the rest. It was Xiao Chenye who came to look for the child and told them to take care of his young master.
Bai Wenxuan’s eyes darkened when he heard that Yang Wei had left the child unattended in Bai Meiyue’s care. Even though Bai Meiyue was not a bad woman, what if she had some evil intentions? She and the Bai family already had a lot of grudges, what if Bai Meiyue tried to harm his child? Yang Wei, that foolish woman was too much!
