Chapter 810: Who Looks Down On Who? (II)

"Will you be alright?" Meng Suisui asked with a frown. Sure enough, giving birth was not an easy task; she had seen how Bai Meiyue, who was filled with energy at the start, had turned more and more sickly with each passing day. It was as if she were getting weaker every second.

"I will be fine." Bai Meiyue nodded again as she smiled at Meng Suisui. She then glanced at the children who were hugging their mothers. She felt a bit sorry for their experience, but this was something that they had to go through. She could only hope that these children would learn something from this experience and grow up. She was not sure what would happen to them in the future, but Bai Meiyue hoped that they would be able to become stronger with this experience.

Meng Suisui nodded upon hearing her confirmation.

Bai Meiyue took a few breaths and waited for the cramps to ease a little. She then turned her attention to the women who were crying until they were out of breath and asked, "How many women returned? And how many of them are dead?" She asked the latter half of the question because she could see that there were a few children and men who were looking for their wives or mothers, and yet did not find them. It seemed like not everyone was able to return safely.

"I asked around a little, and there are around fifty women who are missing." Meng Qibao was the one who answered her question. He was the one who was responsible for bringing these women to Bai Meiyue’s mansion and had already collected the desired information. "These women don’t know what happened to them. They only know that they were taken away to serve men, but they never returned. The chances of them being dead are quite high, but as they had never seen their dead bodies, these women could not give a proper answer."

"They are most certainly dead." Xie Jinyue deadpanned. As someone who worked in this field in the past, she knew that there were countless times men would go past a woman’s limit and do something that might harm her. In the worst-case scenario, the woman might even end up dead. After all, in the eyes of these men, these women were nothing but slaves who were kept to entertain them. Why would they treat them as human beings?

Since the women were missing, they were most likely dead.

Bai Meiyue pursed her lips. Even though she did not say anything, she herself knew that those women were most likely gone as well. Men, especially men with supernatural abilities, had started to believe that they were no less than immortals who were supposed to be worshipped and cared for. Why would they care about the lives of these women? Even if they went a bit too far, they would only consider it their bad luck for choosing women who could not withstand their strength.

Sighing, she said to Meng Qibao, "You should tell the matter of missing women to their husbands. Since these women are not going to return, what is the point in waiting? Let these men know about the truth and disclose it to their children accordingly. I don’t want these children running around waiting for their mother to return." Bai Meiyue had long heard about these children sneaking out of their wards and running to the main gates. They were lucky that the security was tight and no one with any bad intentions was able to capture them.

But what if they went missing someday? It would be better for these children to stop looking for those who were never going to return.

"Alright." Meng Qibao did not want to be the bearer of the bad news, but what could he do? The task had already been handed over. He pursed his lips and agreed with Bai Meiyue, who turned to look at the women. Tapping on her thigh, she said to Xie Jinyue, "I will leave these women in your care. I suppose you can help them better than anyone else in this safe base." As someone who had lifted herself from the quagmire, she was the best option to take care of these women.

"Are you really going to dump these women on my head?" Xie Jinyue asked with a look of sheer disbelief on her face, and even though she did not say anything, the look of disgust in her eyes was enough to make anyone understand why she was refusing to acknowledge these women.

Meng Suisui, who had seen the actions of her cousins and was thoroughly disappointed by her actions, was the first to jump up. She raised her voice passionately and asked, "What is wrong with you? Why are you making such an expression like there is something wrong with these women?" Though she didn’t say it outright, her expression clearly stated what she was thinking in her mind. After all, Xie Jinyue was the same kind of woman as these women. She had suffered what these women had suffered, so why was she looking down at these women?

Xie Jinyue was slightly shocked. She never expected the always calm Meng Suisui to jump up to defend these women, but soon she recovered and replied unhurriedly, "There is nothing wrong with these women. I just think that they are too weak." Xie Jinyue did not look down on these women; she just believed that they had no courage.

If she were to stop and count their numbers, they would easily amount to a hundred. A hundred women and yet none of them could fight their way out of the quagmire. She did not believe that it was difficult for them to escape from the convoy, as long as they tried hard enough, they could have run away from those men who captured them. Was it that difficult to escape from those men, who did not even have a place to stay and couldn’t even lock these women up properly? In short, these women were just like little birds waiting to be rescued!
