Chapter 302: Chapter 206: Fight to the Death

Paige Summers had jumped straight off Sweetie’s back as it dove.

Using the momentum, she swung her blade diagonally, cleaving a Zombie attacking Claire Chapman in two.

Even so, the Zombie refused to die.

Its remaining arm propped up its torso as it writhed, letting out a guttural gurgle as it tried to approach.

Paige Summers sent a flying kick that burst its head open.

She had landed, but Sweetie, having received her orders mid-flight, didn’t stop. It flew directly toward the two other routes on the far side.

Earlier, when Paige Summers had heard the sounds of fighting from afar, she had a feeling the situation was unusually dire.

’The two teams might not be able to hold them off.’

’So it’s best to gather everyone here.’

Now, seeing the state of Claire Chapman’s team, she couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath.

Team members had already suffered casualties, and the numbers weren’t small.

Only about two-thirds were still able to fight—around forty people.

But there were at least fifteen Zombies left, and none of them were weak!

As she fought two Zombies at once, she finally understood. It wasn’t that there were no powerful Zombies in The Foundry; they had all just gathered in one place.

’But why would they all appear here at the same time?’

At this point, she was still unaware of the peculiar Zombie’s existence.

Claire Chapman hadn’t had a chance to tell her.

It wasn’t until about twenty minutes later that Ben finally arrived with all the other team members.

For the moment, the number of Zombies wasn’t increasing.

The pressure on Claire Chapman lessened slightly, and she finally found an opportunity to fight back-to-back with Paige Summers, taking the chance to explain how the current situation had come about.

Paige Summers’s expression grew more and more serious as she listened.

’A disappearing-and-reappearing Zombie?’

’Cosmic Transposition Art?’

’This is completely illogical!’

’Magicians’ disappearing acts are just a Blinding Technique. So what about this Zombie?’

’What method is it using to summon so many other Zombies anytime, anywhere?’

She wanted to see it with her own eyes!

In reality, the peculiar Zombie itself didn’t seem skilled in combat, as it constantly hid behind the others. And even though the Zombies it summoned would spread out to attack the humans, a few always lingered in front of it.

’Clearly, they’re protecting it!’

’So that’s how it is!’

Paige Summers peered through the obstructions at the seemingly unremarkable Zombie and had a sudden realization. This one had to be the Zombie Leader of The Foundry!

’Finally found it.’

In a lull in the fighting, her gaze swept over all the Zombies. ’The leader will be hard to kill, so I’ll kill its minions first,’ she thought. ’No matter what method it’s using to bring these Zombies here, I refuse to believe that even a Zombie Leader can use it endlessly, without limit!’

’Once all its underlings are dead, what tricks will it have left?’

In truth, Bloodfall had no other choice right now.

Fight, and nothing but fight.

The number of Zombies soon began to increase again.

The Zombie Leader must possess a high degree of intelligence. This move proved it wanted to kill all the humans present as quickly as possible.

But it wouldn’t be that easy.

Humans are a very strange species.

As the Zombies kept increasing, the team members stopped paying attention to the numbers. They knew that at this point, there was no retreat. The only way to survive was to kill every last Zombie!

And so, they erupted with even greater strength and more resolute courage.

Some were willing to take injuries just to kill a Zombie!

Even if they died, they would drag one down with them!

Once a person burned their bridges, the power they could unleash was absolutely astonishing.

As they fought on, the members of the other two teams began to arrive one after another.

Over two hundred people against nearly sixty Zombies!

This vacant area had transformed into an arena, a killing field.

The cries of Zombies, the whistle of various superpowers cutting through the air, the clash of weapons, the gasps for breath, the tearing of flesh by sharp claws, the thud of Zombie heads rolling on the ground... all these sounds merged into one.

This place had become Hell.

More and more blood flowed, soaking through clothes and pooling on the ground.

Severed limbs lay scattered about—some belonging to Zombies, others to humans.

On a battlefield like this, even those with the strength of Paige Summers, Claire Chapman, and Ben could only do their best to slay Zombies or, when they could, save another team member from mortal danger.

But as for the greater task of ensuring every team member’s safety, that was impossible.

Death and injury were unavoidable.

They could only rely on their own strength, or on the coordination between teammates.

It was at this moment that The Power Corps finally realized that Paige Summers had been absolutely right when she said they still had a long way to go.

It was obvious that if it weren’t for the timely aid from the team members outside The Power Corps, their own casualties would have been much higher.

People always learn certain things in times of danger.

’Let’s just hope it’s not too late.’

Time passed, bit by bit... By the time Sean Raines found them, everyone had been fighting for a full day!

Hunger and exhaustion were taking a toll on their bodies, but not on their spirits.

Every team member’s eyes were red with bloodlust!

Watching their comrades die and fall before their very eyes felt like an invisible hand was tearing at their hearts.

Hayden Howell was an ordinary member of Bloodfall.

He had a cheerful personality, loved to talk and joke around, and often made harmless jokes with everyone. He was very popular.

Everyone liked being around optimistic people, as if the troubles of life would just fade away.

His superpower was wind—rare and highly destructive—and he had already reached the Fifth Rank. With his diligence, everyone who knew him believed he was destined to go much higher and further.

His teammates had all been genuinely looking forward to it.

But just a moment ago, a Zombie had lunged out and torn off both of his arms.

Others had immediately rushed over to help. Some blocked the Zombie, while others tried to give him emergency first aid.

However, in the blink of an eye, he shouted, "Get back!" and charged toward that Zombie.

BOOM! An explosion erupted. The brilliant flash of light was too bright to look at, and clods of earth, stone fragments, and bits of flesh splattered onto the nearby team members.

Right before their eyes, Hayden Howell and the Zombie’s upper body had both been blown to pieces.

No one knew when he had started carrying explosives on him. They didn’t even know how he, having lost both hands, had managed to detonate it... but the result was clear. He had used his life to end one Zombie’s rampage.

It wasn’t hard to understand.

A wind Superpower User who had lost both hands would inevitably become a burden to the team, even if he survived. And even if no one held it against him, how could he live with their pity?

It was cruel, but that was reality.

He didn’t want that.

He would rather die a clean death, a worthy death!

Hayden Howell wasn’t the only team member like this.

If it was just a bite, they could still keep fighting. After all, even if they were infected, it would take time, and it wasn’t even a guarantee of the worst-case scenario.

But if they were crippled, just making it out of here alive would be a struggle. Why even go on?

They didn’t want to die, but if it came to this, they absolutely would not fear death!
