Chapter 210: Chapter 210 Karma retribution.
Soon, the people gathered around the Brooke family gradually began dispersing, leaving only Mr. Brooke and Old Lady Brooke lying on the ground.
Meanwhile, several soldiers had already arrived after being summoned by the burly man who had been the main cause of the entire dispute while Erick, on the other hand, had already revealed his identity. The soldiers weren’t sure whether he had just arrived or had been watching the incident all along, but either way, they were determined to remain on their best behavior in front of him.
Meanwhile old Lady Brooke had already fainted but mr Brooke remained conscious and just as he was about to be placed on a stretcher and taken away, his gaze landed on Ivy, whose eyes was filled with tears, though she stubbornly refused to let them fall.
His own eyes instantly became clouded with regret as tears rolled uncontrollably down his cheeks. Every memory of how he had mistreated Ivy came flooding back, each one stabbing painfully at his conscience.
As the soldiers carried his stretcher toward Ivy, they were about to walk past her when Mr. Brooke suddenly reached out with a trembling hand and grabbed hers, forcing the soldiers to stop in their tracks.
"I’m... I’m sorry, Ivy," Mr. Brooke choked out between sobs, tears streaming profusely down his weathered face. "This father of yours is truly sorry for everything that happened to you. I’ve wanted to apologize for so long... I really have, Ivy. Please... just forgive me, sweetheart."
His pleading voice trembled with genuine remorse, but Ivy’s expression remained calm.
"I don’t know you, sir," Ivy replied softly, her indifferent words shattering what little hope remained in Mr. Brooke’s heart.
Without another glance at him, she gently but firmly brushed his hand away before turning toward the soldiers.
"Please take him away and make sure he receives proper treatment," she said calmly. "He’s an old man, after all."
The soldiers exchanged brief glances before giving respectful nods.
"Yes, Captain Ivy."
Without wasting another second, they lifted the stretcher once more and carried both Mr. Brooke and Old Lady Brooke away toward the medical ward.
Silence lingered for a few moments.
Only after they had completely disappeared from sight did Ivy finally speak.
"How do you usually handle situations like this?" she asked quietly, swallowing hard as tears continued threatening to spill from her eyes. She fought desperately to keep them from falling, refusing to show even the slightest hint of weakness.
Erick’s expression immediately turned serious.
"If anything happens to those two elderly people," he answered in a firm voice, "then those responsible will be held accountable."
He paused briefly before continuing.
"I mean, if they end up dying....even if they already had underlying health conditions....I will still consider it a consequence of that young man’s actions that his assault triggered their deaths. If that’s the case, he’ll be executed. The woman he dragged away with him will also face punishment for her involvement."
"I see..." Ivy murmured quietly, swallowing another lump in her throat.
After a brief silence, she looked at Erick again.
"You should deal with that young man before something worse happens, before innocent people become his next victim," she said seriously. "Killers deserve to face justice and yeah this will also teach other survivors some lessons."
Her voice grew heavier.
"The same thing he did to those elderly people today... he could easily do it to other survivors tomorrow. If his anger gets the better of him again, someone else could lose their life so to prevent that from happening, you need to keep him under control."
After a brief pause, she added in a meaningful tone,
"You understand what I mean by ’control,’ don’t you? Monsters are terrifying, yes... but humans can be far more dangerous than monsters."
Erick nodded solemnly.
"I understand exactly what you mean."
He folded his arms before continuing.
"At the moment, he’s technically still free because the elderly couple haven’t been confirmed dead. As long as they survive, I have no legal grounds to execute him."
A cold smile slowly appeared on his face.
"But that doesn’t mean I’ll let him off easily." His eyes became icy. "I can punish him in a way that’ll make him wish he were dead instead. The kind of punishment that will leave a permanent mark on him. It’ll make him understand that every time he raises his hand against another survivor, he’s gambling with his own life."
He nodded firmly.
"Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Captain Ivy."
Ivy swallowed hard once again before giving him a small nod.
"You’re welcome."
Inside, however, her emotions were anything but calm.
This... is the Brooke family’s karmic retribution, Ivy thought inwardly, a faint but satisfied smile appearing on her face. I didn’t do anything wrong. I’m simply helping justice find its rightful destination.
Whether Erick decided to execute Lucas or subject him to a punishment so severe that he’d spend the rest of his life wishing for death, she honestly didn’t care.
I only hope Father and Grandmother survive. I want them to stay alive long enough to watch their precious golden boy suffer as only then will they truly understand what blind favoritism has cost them.
Erick’s voice suddenly interrupted her thoughts.
"Alright," he said, his tone becoming much gentler. "We should head back. You’ve been traveling throughout the night, and you haven’t had any proper rest. It’s time for you to return and get some sleep."
"Alright," Ivy replied with a weary nod and heavy sigh.
Without saying another word, the two of them walked side by side toward the villa.
