Chapter 127: Three titles

Just then, a sudden chime echoed in April’s mind, and the transparent blue system interface snapped open right over her sight. Her savior finally came with a solution.

The system store had refreshed, presenting two specific items under a limited-time recommendation: a specialized Cat-Taming Chew Toy and a Premium Lineage Biscuit. The description explicitly stated these items were calibrated to bribe high-tier felines into complete submission.

The combined cost for the digital bundle was a staggering 2.5 million dollars.

Without a single shred of hesitation, April tapped the purchase button. Half a second later, her smartphone gave a sharp vibration in her purse—a debit alert notifying her of the drain—but she didn’t care in the slightest.

With a brief flash of light, the biscuit and the dense chew toy in the shoe of a yawn ball materialized on her hands.

She looked at what she spent two point five million dollars on and sighed. She did not think of herself as a pet person when she was making her grand plans to relax in the apocalypse.

How did she even get here?

Without lamenting any further, she slipped her hand into the opening of the wicker basket, holding the biscuit out toward the angry white puffball.

The moment the kitten’s nose twitched against the sweet, concentrated scent of the premium biscuit, the violent snarling cut off instantly.

It snatched the treat with its tiny jaws, crunching down happily as a deep, grounding purr vibrated through its snowy chest. The fierce defiance completely dissolved into pure, submissive bliss.

Seeing the shift, April popped the iron latch completely and opened the lid.

The white kitten, who had ruthlessly turned its back on her at the Greels estate, stepped out onto the polished table.

It trotted straight over to her resting arm, its tail standing straight up in the air as it affectionately rubbed its cheek and forehead over the back of her small hand.

"Oh," April murmured flatly, watching the display. "That is how it works?"

Before she could finish the thought, the kitten suddenly opened its jaws and clamped down sharply on the meaty edge of her palm. April squinted her eyes by a fraction, her jaw tightening as a sharp sting rippled up her wrist. A tiny, dark bead of crimson blood trailed out from the puncture wound.

The kitten then leaned down and meticulously licked the blood away from her skin with its rough tongue.

The moment the fluid vanished, a gold notification flared to life in the center of her vision, as the contract officially bound her to the tiny beast.

Title Effect [Calamity Tamer]: Increases the Host’s natural resistance to environmental poisons, dark auras, and structural curses by 30%. The passive radius of your companion’s misfortune consumption is permanently doubled within your stronghold.

April stared at the floating blue and gold text, her eyes tracking the new addition to her profile. The 30% resistance increase was a massive defensive boost, especially considering how toxic the world would become once the air itself began to rot.

Down on the floor, Rufus let out one last, highly reluctant huff, his ears perking up as he stared at April and the kitten that was now submissive.

It was as if it was disappointed now that a pact had been made since it couldn’t attack the cat anymore.

But it would still be on guard because it could feel the cat’s presence rubbing his luck aura the wrong way.

The white kitten, now completely bound, let out a soft yawn on the table, curled itself into a neat snowy ball right next to April’s phone, and closed its green eyes to sleep off the energy it had gotten from the biscuit.

April looked at her wounded palm, the tiny puncture marks already beginning to close up on its own mysteriously.

"I think that settles everything," she said and picked up the chew toy. The cat didn’t even look its way. But she guessed it would come in handy when the dog and cat were once again having a stand off.

For now, she kept it in her spatial dimension.

The head maid walked up to her and with a respectful bow, she asked,

"Would you like to have your meal now, Miss April?"

April nodded.

"Yes, thank you." She said and while the maid left to get it all prepared, she pulled her phone closer, sliding it out from under the kitten’s tail, and casually went back to tapping the colorful blocks on Winecraft.

The house was quiet again, at least for now.

Soon, the maids brought trays of the mid day delicacy, the rich, savory scent of grilled chicken and seasoned rice soon filling the dining hall as they quietly set down the meal.

April picked up her utensils and began to eat with her usual steady pace, her focus shifting between her plate and the Winecraft screen resting beside the sleeping kitten.

Just as she was halfway through her meal, the deep, distant rumble of a high-end engine echoed through the stone courtyard outside, followed by the sound of the villa’s glass doors opening.

Xavier stepped into the grand dining area, his posture straight but his crisp white shirt unbuttoned at the collar as he pulled his dark tie loose with one hand.

Samuel followed a step behind him, carrying a leather briefcase and a tablet still lit up with structural schematics.

The tycoon stopped dead in his tracks the moment his dark eyes landed on the head of the table.

First, his gaze lingered on April, then down to Rufus—who was resting his heavy chin on his paws with a distinctly sullen expression—and finally, up to the polished mahogany surface where a snow-white kitten was curled into a perfect, peaceful ball.

Just a few minutes ago, Xavier had gotten out of the car in his garage only to find a massive, custom-built black tactical Jeep parked directly between his luxury sedans, a vehicle he knew for a fact had not been there that morning.

And now, there was a strange, pristine feline sleeping right next to April’s dinner plate.

"Are you back from collecting your... gift?" Xavier asked, his deep voice carrying a mix of exhaustion and genuine curiosity as he gestured toward the table.

April lifted her calm gaze from her plate, her expression entirely unbothered. "Ah, you’re back."

She picked up a small piece of chicken, her eyes briefly flicking over to the sleeping white ball before she turned back to her food. "And yes. I got my gifts."
