Chapter 351: Chapter 351: A Change of Attitude
The road was riddled with potholes, and in some places, it was completely broken.
Even driving slowly, one could easily run into danger at any moment.
Yet she was driving this fast. If anything unexpected happened, there would be no time to swerve and avoid it.
Wasn’t she just gambling with their lives?
’A madwoman! This woman is an absolute madwoman!’
Andrew Shaw screamed internally. He felt that being around this woman was the very definition of danger.
Even if she no longer had any intention of killing him, the danger hadn’t diminished in the slightest. With a madwoman like this, who knew what she might do? She didn’t even seem to care about her own life, so why would she care about his?
Sticking by her side, he had no idea how many more life-threatening situations like this he would have to face in the future.
He gripped the seatbelt tightly, his face deathly pale.
This was not an easy road to drive. So far, they hadn’t encountered any major obstacles or massive craters.
But there was plenty of small debris, making the ride incredibly bumpy.
He felt like he was about to throw up.
He even suspected the woman was deliberately torturing him. She knew he got carsick, yet she intentionally drove this fast, just to make him suffer.
He grumbled inwardly but didn’t dare voice a single word of this thought to Stella Sterling. He could only endure it.
After driving like that for a while, Stella Sterling finally began to slow down.
She just wanted to enjoy the thrill every now and then; she wasn’t so crazy that she’d throw all caution to the wind.
Now in much better spirits, she let out a whoop. Then, she noticed the items on the front passenger seat and remembered something.
She turned her head and said to Andrew Shaw in the back, "I got your dinner for you. Go ahead and eat."
As the car slowed, Andrew Shaw’s heart finally settled back into his chest. He took a few deep breaths, his expression still grim.
But after hearing Stella Sterling’s words, his expression changed completely.
He looked over excitedly and, sure enough, saw the passenger seat laden with things he’d never eaten before, including the ice-cold cola he had wanted earlier.
His eyes lit up, and all his previous resentment toward Stella Sterling vanished in an instant. "You’re the best!" he exclaimed.
She hadn’t just saved him dinner; it was clear she had chosen foods that were particularly appetizing on a hot day. What satisfied him most, however, was the cola.
Even though it didn’t look as cold anymore, the mere sight of it had him swallowing his saliva repeatedly.
He looked at Stella Sterling. "Have you eaten? Are these all...?"
"Go on, they’re all for you," Stella Sterling said with a smile, still driving. "I told you, as long as you behave and listen to me from now on, I’ll provide you with food and drink. So? Am I good to you or what?"
Andrew Shaw nodded repeatedly. "Yes, yes, you are! This is amazing!"
He had assumed that even if she did provide him with food and drink, it wouldn’t be anything this good. He’d expected scraps to just get by, but never this!
As he thought this, he quickly gathered the items. After a moment’s hesitation, he said, "Could you give me a few minutes? If you could pull over, I’ll finish this stuff by the side of the road."
He thought for a second and added, "That fast driving earlier... my stomach isn’t feeling great right now, so I might need to..."
He didn’t finish the sentence, but Stella Sterling understood what he meant.
She pulled the car over. "Go ahead. Be quick about it!"
"Right, right!"
Andrew Shaw gave a sharp nod, then got out and closed the door.
As he ate, he felt a wave of gratitude toward Stella Sterling.
’To think I can still eat this well in the middle of the apocalypse. Sticking with her was definitely the right choice!’
He was incredibly curious. Did she conjure these things out of thin air, or were they stored somewhere she could access whenever she wanted?
But either way, it made him realize that by staying with this woman, his safety would be guaranteed. He wouldn’t have to live in fear like before.
Since she had this kind of ability, he wouldn’t have to worry so much about food and drink either.
Across his past life and this one, it was only now, following this woman, that he could finally live the life he had always dreamed of—one without worrying about his next meal.
As he thought about this, he ate at a rapid pace, a look of pure satisfaction on his face.
When he took a swig of the cola, he felt as if his very soul was sighing in relief. He had never felt anything like it.
’So refreshing!’
She had given him some before, but on a hot day like this, getting to have even a single sip was always a wonderful feeling.
In his past life, he’d never had the chance to enjoy something like this.
After quickly finishing his dinner, Andrew Shaw didn’t dawdle and got back into the car. Even though the woman seemed more agreeable now, he didn’t dare make her wait long.
Besides, it was sweltering outside. If not for his carsickness, he wouldn’t have wanted to leave the vehicle at all.
In the short time he’d been out, he was already drenched in sweat. His only thought had been to finish his food as fast as possible and get back inside the car.
"Finished?"
Stella Sterling asked, looking at the man getting into the back seat.
Andrew Shaw nodded. "Let’s get back on the road!"
Stella Sterling nodded without a word and started the car. This time, her speed was much slower—just a normal pace.
Having slept earlier and now with a full stomach, Andrew Shaw’s spirits had lifted.
He sized up Stella Sterling as she drove.
He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination.
’How come,’ he wondered, ’her attitude toward me seems so much better since I woke up?’
She was still smiling, but her previous smiles had made him feel a sense of danger. Now, her smile felt genuinely happy.
Moreover, her tone of voice was much gentler when she spoke to him, and she had even proactively saved dinner for him.
All things considered, it was a complete one-eighty from her previous attitude.
He was very curious. Could something have happened that put her in a good mood, causing her to treat him better?
However, Andrew Shaw soon discovered that as they continued on their journey, her attitude toward him was indeed much better. It wasn’t his imagination, nor was it just because she was in a good mood.
It was a real, fundamental shift in how she treated him.
Although he didn’t know the reason for it, he was still happy about this change in her.
He just hoped this new attitude of hers would last for a while and not change back in a heartbeat.
