Chapter 330: Chapter 330: One More Time
She chuckled softly and crouched down, watching them with a grin, her tone suggesting she wanted to make a deal.
"How about this? Let’s play another game. I’ll give you a little more time to run away. You can either find a really good hiding spot or just run as far as you can. Whether you escape is up to you. But if I catch you again, it’s your life on the line!"
"So cherish this opportunity. Cherish your last chance to live."
Hearing her words, a glimmer of hope sparked in the duo’s eyes.
But once they processed what she’d said, that hope was extinguished.
In their current state, without anyone to treat their injuries, it was doubtful they would even survive much longer.
Let alone escape anywhere while dragging their battered bodies.
’She’s just toying with us!’
The slender woman wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth, gasping for breath as she prepared to speak.
’Since things have come to this, we might as well try to negotiate.’
’If we can buy more time, our chances of escape will increase.’
’Besides, she likes to play, right? She must want to have her fun!’
’If she recaptures us this quickly, there’s no "game experience" for her. She won’t be satisfied.’
’So if we propose some conditions, she’ll probably agree... right?’
But just as the woman opened her mouth to speak, the madwoman cut in, "No objections? I’ll take that as a ’yes,’ then."
The woman shook her head frantically, trying to say something...
’I didn’t agree at all...’
But Stella paid her no mind, continuing on her own. "Then let’s officially begin the game. I’ll count from ten. You run, and I’ll chase. When I catch you... that’s when we decide who lives and who dies!"
Hearing Stella’s words, the pair’s eyes widened in terror. A ten-count? That was barely any time at all! Even in perfect health, they couldn’t get far, let alone in their current condition...
’So little time...’
But Stella didn’t care about them or their condition. She had already started the countdown. "Ten... nine—"
Terror seized them. Survival instincts took over, and they began to shuffle backward, desperately trying to move.
Even knowing there was no hope of escape, they still scrambled desperately.
But the more they panicked, the more clumsy their movements became. They flailed about for a moment but ended up just scrambling in place.
Stella watched their pathetic display. She’d finished her ten-count, but she didn’t move immediately.
Instead, she watched them for a moment. Seeing that they were truly helpless, she shook her head. "Time’s up, you two."
The pair looked over at Stella, knowing escape was impossible. The woman grabbed something from the ground and hurled it at Stella, trying for a last, desperate struggle.
But in the next instant, the space in front of her was empty. Her projectile hit nothing but air.
Her expression went blank for a second. ’Weird, where did she go? How does a person just vanish from right in front of you?’
Thinking about how late it was, and recalling the woman’s crazed demeanor, a chill ran down her spine. She shivered. ’Could it be... because it’s so late at night...’
At that thought, her fear surprisingly subsided. ’If it’s really one of *those* things, I’m not scared!’
But just as she was celebrating this small comfort, a sharp pain struck the back of her neck, and in the next moment, her world went black.
Stella’s figure appeared behind them. After dealing with the two of them, she glanced down at their bodies.
She then let out a derisive snort and walked back to the man who had fired earlier, taking his pistol.
She didn’t leave right away. Instead, she started to scavenge the area.
Sure enough, she soon found a few bags of damp rice, several packages of crushed instant noodles, and some bread.
None of it looked very clean. The rice was damp, and while the contents of the other packages were a mystery, their exteriors were covered in large, grimy stains.
This was all pre-apocalypse food. Over the years, it had passed through countless hands. Between the recent downpours and blizzards, most food supplies were no longer clean.
But a little dirt was nothing compared to having nothing to eat at all.
So, despite their filthy appearance, these items were incredibly precious.
How to put it... it would fill your stomach and it wouldn’t kill you, but anyone with a weaker constitution would probably be stuck with diarrhea for days.
But in this post-apocalyptic world, anyone who had survived this long had a body tempered by years of disasters. Everyone’s physical constitution was worlds better than before.
People no longer got sick as easily as they used to from eating such things. Everyone had adapted.
In her past life, Stella had eaten plenty of contaminated food just like this.
When you were starving, such concerns meant nothing.
After a moment’s thought, she packed everything into a bag. ’In this life, I have the luxury of eating better food. I won’t be eating this stuff.’
’But just because I don’t need it doesn’t mean no one else does.’
’I can use it to do a good deed when I have the chance.’
She might turn her nose up at it now, but to those with nothing, it was something worth fighting to the death for.
’So, it can’t go to waste.’
After scavenging the area for a while longer and confirming there was nothing else worth taking, Stella returned to her car, ready to leave.
She had rested enough during the day, so she planned to travel through the cool of the night.
But as Stella reached her car, her hand froze on the door handle. Her eyes went cold.
’Someone was near my car while I was gone.’
’The door has been tampered with. Someone tried to open it and failed.’
’There’s someone else here?’
Stella’s gaze swept the surroundings. Then, she walked toward a small patch of grass nearby.
She reached into the tall grass and hauled up a prone figure.
What she saw, however, was just a child, no older than four or five.
Seeing the little kid in her grasp, even Stella was stunned for a second.
’A little kid, out here this late at night?’
Dangled in Stella’s grip, the little boy flailed his arms and legs, trying to break free. When that failed, his face crumpled, on the verge of tears.
Stella watched him struggle. Seeing the tears welling up, she said, "You can stop that right now. Dare to cry in front of me, and I’ll toss you out."
