Chapter 328: Chapter 328: Come On, Let’s Play
"La la la la la la la..."
An off-road vehicle drove down a small road.
Stella Sterling hummed a little tune as she drove.
An automated massaging palm was built into the back of her seat, greatly alleviating her fatigue.
A small fan was mounted on the passenger side, and the car’s air conditioning was on.
Even though it was night, the temperature outside was fifty to sixty degrees Celsius.
But inside Stella Sterling’s car, it was cool and comfortable.
She watched the scenery flash by, humming an unknown song.
Because it was nighttime, the road conditions weren’t very clear.
Plus, the road was difficult to navigate, so Stella Sterling drove very slowly.
She had been driving for over a day since leaving Mount Caeluna. Based on the surrounding terrain, however, she judged that she was still within the borders of Mirefall and hadn’t crossed into another region.
’The situation is even worse than I thought.’
Over the past two years, most of the cities and villages had been flooded. Many of the former high-rises were now just piles of rubble.
And because of the floods, debris had been scattered everywhere.
The roads were littered with trash and large boulders.
Many areas were impassable for Stella Sterling. After driving for a while, she would either have to take a long detour or stop, move a large boulder out of the way, and then continue on.
Thankfully, Stella Sterling was strong. Moving those large boulders was effortless for her; she could shift them with ease.
Otherwise, on her own, a single stone would have taken who knows how long, wasting even more time.
Some places were even worse, with roads completely fractured and impassable. The only way forward was to take a massive detour, with no guarantee of what the new path would be like.
When there was no other option, Stella Sterling would enter her "space," bring the car in with her, cross the gap on foot, and then take the car back out.
Driving and stopping like this, she was still in the outer regions of Mirefall after more than a day.
’If it’s like this for me, I can only imagine what it’s like for Seven Locke and the others.’
’It’s possible that even with me stopping and starting, sightseeing and messing around, I’ll still end up getting there faster than them.’
With that thought, Stella Sterling stopped feeling so rushed.
The car swayed and rocked, constantly driving over trash. Stella Sterling ignored anything she could drive over and just plowed straight through.
Otherwise, it would be impossible to make any progress.
CLANG.
In the dead of night, her car hit something.
She stopped the car, intending to get out and check, but then she remembered the temperature outside...
The moment she opened the door, a wave of scorching heat would rush in, like stepping into a furnace.
After a moment’s thought, Stella Sterling abandoned the idea.
She tried turning the wheel. The car seemed drivable, so she prepared to move on.
But just then, a voice called out from the front left in the darkness.
"Hey—hey—"
"You in the car! You hit my stuff! Stop right there!"
At the same time, Stella Sterling heard several sets of footsteps approaching her.
This place must have been a village once, but all the houses had been washed away, leaving only faint traces of what used to be.
’There are people out here?’
She raised an eyebrow, stopped the car, and put on a pair of custom-made night-vision goggles.
Her vision immediately became crystal clear.
She saw several people walking toward her.
They were tall and thin, with shrewd eyes.
It was three men and a small, skinny woman.
The skinny woman was walking in the lead.
She didn’t get out of the car, deciding to observe the situation first.
’These people... out here in this deserted village in the middle of the night... they aren’t sleeping. It’s like they were specifically lying in wait.’
They didn’t seem particularly unusual as they approached, but she could clearly see the two axes hidden behind the backs of the two men in the rear.
Tapping her fingers on the steering wheel, a smile touched the corner of her eye.
She didn’t know if this was a deliberate setup or a coincidence, but Stella Sterling didn’t let her guard down—especially not when they were approaching with weapons.
"Open up! Open the door! You damaged our property! Get out here and talk compensation, or this car isn’t going anywhere!"
The group shouted as they came forward to surround Stella Sterling’s car.
Stella Sterling cracked her window open a tiny bit.
She glanced over. "What did I break? Bring it here and let me see!"
"You get out first!"
The girl in the lead stared at her, her expression fierce and her tone demanding.
A flash of impatience crossed Stella Sterling’s eyes.
’I’ve lived two lives. Do they really think I can’t see what they’re plotting, what kind of trick this is?’
She had only asked to be absolutely sure.
But seeing this woman’s attitude, she was now completely certain. These people had been deliberately lying in wait here.
’They probably heard my car coming a long time ago and decided to try and scam me.’
She said no more. She simply grabbed her pistol from the seat and pressed it to the woman’s forehead. "You want compensation? Then do exactly as I say."
The woman’s eyes widened, but there was no panic in them. Her tone, however, was no longer as aggressive. "Friend, what’s the meaning of this? You damage our stuff, and now you want to take our lives?"
As she spoke, she swiftly dodged Stella Sterling’s gun.
At the same instant, another man raised his axe and swung it at Stella Sterling’s car.
"See, I told you! People these days aren’t that easy to fool. They wouldn’t even care if they actually ran something over."
"Why go through all this trouble? We should’ve just attacked from the start!"
One man shouted as he tried to yank open Stella Sterling’s car door, while another leaped onto the roof.
CRACK!
The axe made a sharp sound as it struck Stella Sterling’s window, but it didn’t break through.
His eyes bulged. "Holy shit, what kind of car is this?"
The next moment, a gunshot rang out, and a bloody hole appeared in his head.
After dealing with him, Stella Sterling closed the window, slammed on the accelerator, and rammed the car toward the woman who had just dodged.
But her opponent’s reaction speed was incredible, and she managed to dodge again.
Now, one of their group of four was dead. Another was on the roof of Stella Sterling’s car, hacking at it with an axe.
Another man pulled out a gun and started firing at Stella’s car.
But his shots either missed or hit the car’s body with no effect.
He realized the car must have been specially modified and reinforced!
He aimed his gun at the tires. Just as he was about to shoot, he saw the woman’s off-road vehicle hurtling toward him—
THUD—
This man was also sent flying!!!
Stella Sterling made a sharp turn and once again drove toward the woman.
"Come on, let’s play!!!"
In the dead of night, Stella Sterling’s voice tore through the sky, thrilled and excited!!!
