Chapter 93: Everyone Is Present
April 1, 2028. 12 am in the midnight.
The players were celebrating the second month that Apocalypse Online had emerged.
Pentagon still failed to trace the perpetrator behind the game.
Now that the game was getting popular, they were not curious about the identity behind the appearance of Apocalypse Online alone, they were expanding their investigation on the game itself and why it was launched.
They didn’t leave out the possibility of the first player’s claim.
They gathered information about the game through the ceaseless survey to the players.
They were also aware of the first player’s real identity.
The way he played the game and from his statements, it was obvious he knew a lot more than the others.
When they uncovered that he was an ordinary citizen with no background on gaming, they became even more suspicious towards him.
Aethernova also provided information as they were also curious about his real identity, allowing them to dig deeper on Max’s recent behavior, which was highly suspicious.
First he bought a gaming pod just a day before Apocalypse Online was launched.
His first game? Apocalypse Online.
If it wasn’t because he entered the game five minutes left, the pentagon could immediately confirm Max was definitely involved with the game.
The five minutes interval was crucial for them.
If Max was excited to play Apocalypse Online and anticipated its arrival, he would immediately log in in less than a minute.
Yet it took him five minutes.
His activity for those five minutes was unknown, but that became their primary reason not to capture and interrogate him.
The possibility of an ordinary citizen with a clear background to delete every other virtual game and launch a game without being caught was nil.
Now, instead of searching for the perpetrator instead, they devoted most of their time now in playing and understanding the game like Max.
But it doesn’t mean that Max was already out of their equation. Max continued to be their primary source of investigation.
Just that, he couldn’t touch him yet.
Now that it was the first day of the second month that Apocalypse Online was launched, a quarter of the world’s population had already become a player.
At this moment, Aethernovas’s market website suddenly posted a series of announcement that shook the virtual gaming community...
...
Aaron Gunnarsson had just logged in Apocalypse Online three days ago.
It was his father’s gift for him after turning 21 years old.
As a man, it was a turning point in his life.
Now that he was allowed to play games he’d been dreaming all along, Aaron instantly became addicted.
There were no curfew hours set by his parents, as though he had gained his freedom.
But Aaron was not a spoiled young man.
He quickly created a time management that devoted most of his time to playing games.
When he logged in the Apocalypse Online, unlike other players who could choose randomly, the game detected the purity of his bloodline that was suitable for Berserker Class.
It suggested him a village and a specific NPC to look for to be their apprentice and aim to officially complete his first-class advancement.
Aaron followed the game’s advice.
He was also reminded of his bloodline—Vikings.
If the game allowed him to revive his ancient roots, he wouldn’t reject it.
In three days, Aaron was about to complete his first-class advancement.
At the moment, he had just logged out the game.
It was now 12:30 am. April 1, 2028.
He opened his phone to be updated from the community’s announcement and was shocked to learn that Aethernova’s website had just auctioned every sub-class’ equipment set available.
He checked the berserk’s equipment set at D-rank and learned there were more than ten people joining the auction already.
Aaron checked the price and heaved a sigh of relief.
10 grand was nothing for him. Since there was only an hour duration for the auction, he believed he could buy it with his savings.
As expected, after an hour, he secured the set of equipments for forty grand.
Aaron was exhilarated.
He received a congratulatory message from Aethernova and was asked to contact the seller first.
He checked the seller’s name and furrowed his eyebrows.
First Player....
Every player was aware of the First Player’s existence.
For Aaron, the First Player was filled with enigma.
He was unpredictable and incomprehensible.
Aaron didn’t want to be involved with such individual.
However, he didn’t have a choice but to contact him first to finally receive his first equipment set.
He was excited.
He was about to take a step forward to his goal.
...
April 1, 2028. 8am in the morning.
Max woke up. After spending so much time crazily buying set equipments—with some from sub-classes that were difficult to obtain—he was finally able to take a rest.
Funny enough, during the process, Lieutenant Daniel personally came to him and politely asked his intention of mass-buying equipment set.
Max politely explained and easily got along with the Lieutenant, allowing him to continue.
Max was only able to gather every set equipment for D-rank, but as for C-rank, he was only able to gather some that were easily accessible.
He didn’t plan to continue. He believed some would be more accessible in the capital city.
Max cooked first and ate.
He first checked his phone and received a series of message notification from Aethernova, informing him about the individual who won the auction.
When Max scrolled through each message, he smiled.
Everyone is present, it seems.
In his past life, there were seven S-rank humans after the apocalypse descended.
A swordsman and a mage from United State of America. A berserker from Iceland. An assassin from Japan. A tactician from China. A healer from Brazil. An Archer from Mongolia.
The seven continents ruled by humans were reduced into seven cities—or preferred as seven sanctuaries ruled by each of the S-rank Mythical humans and their guilds.
Max was familiar with their names—they were popular, after all.
He wasn’t surprised that even Spencer joined in the auction and won.
After all, the swordsman class’ equipment set was specifically for him...
