Chapter 129: Grand Runesmith
"House Mireth is one of the oldest arcane houses in Mirefall Province, tracing its lineage back nearly nine centuries.
Our family earned noble recognition through its service during the early reclamation campaigns of the southwestern frontier, where generations of Mireth mages specialized in stabilizing hostile environments through advanced elemental control.
Unlike families that pursued political influence, House Mireth became known for scholarship, magical discipline, and public service.
We have the Elemental Sovereign Class Sequence, an A-Class. That’s why our house is sought after those who wished to obtain the class sequence of Elemental Sovereign.
The current family head, the patriarch of House Mireth, is my father, Lord Cassian Mireth. He’s an A-rank Elemental Sovereign.
He’s also a senior professor of elemental theory at the Mirefall Mage Academy, the provincial arcane advisor to the governor of Mirefall, and a member of the Provincial Arcane Council..."
At this point, Kai couldn’t hide his astonishment when sharing the background of his father.
Max simply listened, while comparing Archmage Arlen’s words, when mentioning his history with his father.
Perhaps, he’s just a mischievous genius in his family until he arrived in the village.
Max couldn’t help but smile remembering Archmage Arlen.
Suddenly, Kai’s narration changed to his elder brother.
He said, "My father had chosen my elder brother to be his successor, but the moment he devoted himself to study runes, father was enraged.
In the end, his fatherly nature left him no choice but to invest on elder brother’s study.
Still, elder brother was so mischievous that he used most of his runes to play on others.
Suddenly, my father decided to throw him into the village and he actually rebelled, believing father chose to punish him for choosing to become a rune mage instead of elemental mage.
In the end, father forced him to the Greyfen Village..."
Kai’s narration was cut off as they arrived in the manor.
Max parked his horse in near stable and a steward came to them and introduced himself as the patriarch’s servant.
He had assured Max that the patriarch was already aware of his presence and was waiting in his office.
The steward glanced at Kai and greeted him.
Kai nodded and reluctantly bid farewell to Max, leaving the latter to follow the steward.
The steward was actually a B-Rank Mage, evident by the mana fluctuation of his aura.
He appeared to be in his sixties and remained composed in his interaction with Max.
While Max was silently walking beside him, the steward suddenly broke the silence.
"You might have already noticed Kai’s behavior towards the house.
Ever since his elder brother was labeled as a genius but went to a different path, the pressure of the patriarch’s successor befell on him.
But Kai’s potential was not even half of his elder brother, he was simply an average.
His cousin, the patriarch brother’s son, had shown an exceptional potential, instead. He was only three year older than Kai.
Of course, compared to young master Arlen, who was hailed as one in a generation genius, his cousin fell behind."
Max was silent, not interested in their family’s internal conflicts.
The steward instantly understood his way of thinking as he simply raised the public-level of understanding on the House Mireth to gauge Max’s interest.
He was a bit disappointed that Max didn’t show an interest on supporting Arlen’s younger brother, given his relation with Arlen.
The steward changed the topic and said in a respectful tone, "As expected of the apprentice of the Grand Runesmith.
To think you have managed to escape from the demon and awaken an inheritance that could fight them.
I have nothing but admiration for you, even as an Archmage."
Max’s eyes widened.
He halted.
He had never been surprised as to stop his pace.
The steward noticed his reaction and grinned. As expected, even the young master Arlen’s ideals was passed into him.
Max, on the other hand, was utterly surprised.
In his past life, the sequences starting B-rank and above were a mystery to him.
Simply because he was mostly stuck earning money by guiding newbies and accompanying them to various hunts.
He was never granted an opportunity to learn the B-Class Mages.
Hence, what he learned from Archmage Arlen was purely out of ignorance from his past life.
The only B-Class Mage he remembered was the Archmage class—it was very popular.
Albeit he didn’t have a chance to level up due to how slow his progress was and difficult to obtain a class advancement.
He never bothered learning about the Archmage class anyway.
Hell, he didn’t even bother learning how to become one.
He knew that he had reached his limits for a decade at least—being an Archmage.
Hence, when Archmage Arlen taught him of every class at D-rank and the class sequence, including the confusion between an Archmage who leaned on the elemental path, while an Archmage who leaned on the rune path, he genuinely listened and took them seriously.
But suddenly, a steward of the same rank as Archmage Arlen suddenly dropped a bomb out of nowhere.
So, there’s a specific class name for Archmage Arlen?
N-No... It should be Grand Runesmith Arlen.
Yeah, this title suit him most and this clear things up.
Max frowned, feeling deceived by Archmage Arlen’s words.
Why will he force himself to be called as Archmage rather than Grand Runesmith?
Something is amiss.
Max fell into deep thought until he snapped awake.
He wasn’t disturbed. The steward waited for him patiently.
He simply realized he was immersed in his own thoughts and appeared frozen for a while.
Max glanced at the steward, who tried his best to hide the amusement subtly revealing in his face.
Max didn’t bother asking. He knew it was Archmage Arlen’s personal matter.
The better person to satisfy his question would definitely be his father, Lord Cassian.
As Max walked forward, the steward asked in a concerned tone, "Are you okay? Did something happen?"
Max shook his head. "Nothing."
The steward nodded and led Max to the patriarch while continuing with a casual conversation of mostly talking by himself...
