Chapter 128: House Mireth

The mage apprentice was floating beside him.

Along the way, while the mage apprentice was still feeling apprehensive, Max glanced at him and asked, "What’s your name?"

The mage apprentice froze.

It took him a while to respond.

"I-I’m Kai Mireth."

Max nodded. "What is your relation with Master Arlen Mireth?"

Kai was stunned.

He immediately replied, "I’m his younger brother."

Max’s speculation was confirmed.

He indeed thought he might be Arlen’s younger brother, but given how a noble house operated, he might just be his cousin.

Max perceived the intense curiosity gaze from Kai.

He introduced himself. "I’m Max. Master Arlen’s apprentice back in the village. I come here to visit his grave."

Kai was stunned. He did not expect to encounter one of the individual who was the talk in the family when they received the news of his elder brother’s passing.

He gazed at Max in silence and whispered. "So you were the only one who survived from the demon’s ambush?"

Max heard his words and nodded. "Thanks to your brother. As much as I wanted to help them, my strength were insignificant and would only hold them back. I listened to his orders of escaping first while they were holding back the demons."

"But you still fought them, right?" Kai quickly asked.

Ever since his genius elder brother passed away, Kai was curious about the race that his brother hated to the core but received his demise from them.

Now, he could finally release all the accumulated questions that has been weighing his mind since then.

He didn’t even notice his anxious nerves finally calmed down.

Max nodded. He couldn’t help but remember the unsettling events that transpired.

"It was inevitable. But what I fought were incomparable to the demons your elder brother faced."

"Are they strong?" Kai immediately followed up with a question.

Max nodded. "Their strength lies in number. Never try fighting fair against a demon. You must always confront them in their ways."

"Like?"

"Like taking them by surprise."

Max smiled. "Demons are cunning. When they asked for a duel, a poison needle will stab you in the midst of the battle and you’ll die unjustly.

So, fight them in their ways. When you accept the duel, you better prepare three backups spread in secret and your only aim is to kill him before you get killed.

The winner celebrates, the loser explains.

That’s the way it is."

Kai fell into deep thought, ruminating Max’s words.

After a while, he finally pointed at one of the large manor getting closer at them and said, "That’s the House Mireth."

Max flicked the reign of his horse and they haste into the gate.

There were mage apprentices inside the gate, sitting in a wooden hut filled with books.

Max knew their position in the noble house, players started in that very place—to stand guard in the gate while freely studying on the break time.

Once they heard noise of hooves echoing closer to them, the mage apprentices immediately put down their books and rushed to the gate, peeking at the individual who might perhaps visit the House Mireth.

To their surprise, they saw their young master floating beside an Imperial Official riding in a horse.

From afar, they immediately though the young master was held hostage, so one of them immediately took out the communication device and informed the house’s security.

The head security told them to stand by and questioned the Imperial Officer first and informed them immediately.

They listened to the security’s order, and waited for Max to arrive.

Max put down Kai into the street, and the latter immediately proceeded to the gate.

He informed the mage apprentices, who were astonished after they discovered the actual identity of an Imperial Official riding the horse.

The mage apprentices opened the massive gate, holding their breath as their face reddened from exerting their full strength.

The gate was opened and Max and Kai entered.

Normally, the whole gate wasn’t opened, even for Kai. There was a small mechanism similar to a door in the gate, where an individual passed through.

Their action was to emphasize respect Max’s appearance to the house as an esteemed guest.

Even Kai was astonished from the treatment Max’s received. It was the order of the house’s security, meaning they were aware of Max’s identity.

Max didn’t know about it and simply passed through, while Kai hurriedly followed behind him.

Max swept his gaze around after entering. There was a huge manor at the center and surrounding it was lushful environment filled with trees and lakes, seemingly intending for meditation for mages.

In fact, he spotted some mages cultivating in the lake, or atop the boulder, while some were facing a huge bonfire.

Noticing where his eyes were sweeping, Kai walked closer and said, "The House Mireth specialized in pure elemental manipulation.

If you noticed, some of the environments like the lake, that huge boulder, and others are radiating specialized element, such as water, earth, and more.

It was my elder brother who enhanced the elemental magic density in every place, allowing us to attract more talents to be a member of our house."

Max furrowed his eyebrows and asked, "Why is Archmage Arlen choose to study runes?"

Kai was silent, unable to reply.

Max already had answers, so his question was more or less rhetoric.

He silently sighed and finally gazed at the manor.

He said, "Do you know where your elder brother is buried?"

Max was aware that every mages who belonged to a noble house was buried at their family’s residence.

It was to honor their achievements in their house.

Kai replied, "Won’t you meet my father first? I think it will be best if he’s the one guiding you to my brother’s grave."

Max nodded.

"Alright, lead me to your father."

Kai nodded. He seemed particularly not excited to lead Max to his father.

Max didn’t question on his attitude on his father.

As they slowly paced to the manor, Kai briefed Max about the House Mireth...
