Chapter 264: Ulterior motives

The Green Wolf’s eyes were bloodshot, and he gritted his teeth, saying, "This is my fault. I trusted that bastard Drake too much! None of us expected that he would be so incompetent. If it weren’t for me, our warship wouldn’t have fallen into their hands, and we wouldn’t be in this predicament now!"

The current situation weighed heavily on the Green Wolf. After all, it was he who had insisted that Drake lead the warship into battle against the Dawn. Now, things had gone awry, and he felt responsible for it.

The Black Wolf, however, wasn’t too concerned about these matters. With a serious expression, he said, "It’s too late to dwell on that now. What we need to focus on is how to deal with the threat from the Dawn. The battleship is right there, not far from the Heavenly Dragon, with its cannons aimed at us. With a single command, our Heavenly Dragon will be riddled with holes. We must find a way to address this imminent problem."

The Green Wolf nodded slowly. "Yes, while we still have time, we need to figure out a solution. We can’t just surrender without a fight."

The two brothers had emerged from many trials and tribulations. They had faced all sorts of challenges. While the current situation was dire, they believed that there was a way to deal with it.

Worrying wouldn’t help.

Soon, the Green Wolf and the Black Wolf gathered all the powerful survivors on board the Heavenly Dragon. Once everyone had assembled, the Green Wolf got straight to the point.

"Everyone, you’ve all seen the situation we’re in. Right now, the Heavenly Dragon is facing an unprecedented crisis. In times of danger, we must unite and work together to have a fighting chance!"

His words moved many of those present. Nobody was willing to become a slave on the Dawn. Such a fate was too miserable. Therefore, they had to unite.

Someone tried to ask, "So, do we have any good plans?"

Others chimed in, "Yeah, they have a battleship, and we have nothing. How can we even stand a chance against them?"

"That’s right, there’s no comparison in terms of strength. It’s like comparing apples to oranges."

"Don’t give up, brothers! Actually, anything is possible. If you don’t try, how will you know if it won’t work?"

"I believe in General Green Wolf and General Black Wolf. With their cooperation, there’s nothing they can’t handle!"

The discussions among the people were not hidden from the eyes of Green Wolf and Black Wolf. Many people were clearly worried and pessimistic about the outcome. However, what made them a little happier was that there were still many who believed in the two brothers and their ability to turn the tide.

Green Wolf cleared his throat and said, "Everyone, don’t panic. We actually have a plan to deal with this!"

As soon as he said this, everyone was momentarily stunned. Then, smiles appeared on their faces. It seemed that the Green Wolf and Black Wolf had found a way.

Instantly, many people became quite enthusiastic and expressed their support.

"Is that true? That’s great!"

"The Dawn is just a battleship. If it weren’t for Drake’s carelessness in sending the warship out, we would have taken it long ago."

"There’s no way back now. What we need to do is find a solution to this crisis. Fortunately, General Green Wolf and General Black Wolf have figured it out!"

"That’s wonderful!"

This time, the crowd was quite spirited. Earlier, they had been worried about the possibility of Heavenly Dragon being captured or sunk by enemy artillery fire. At that point, they would either become prisoners or fish food in the sea. In any case, there was no good outcome.

With everything in place, they just needed a favorable turn of events. Green Wolf smiled slightly, exuding confidence, and this instantly eased the worries of many.

They were very familiar with Green Wolf. Whenever he wore that smile, it meant he had made sufficient preparations, and the chances of success were basically nine out of ten.

At this moment, on board the Flame-class battleship,

Alanna couldn’t quite understand Waldo’s decision. "Why accept their surrender? These people originally wanted to rob us; they don’t deserve any sympathy!"

Waldo shook his head and said, "I understand that, but I have other considerations."

Alanna was puzzled. "What considerations?"

In her opinion, Waldo should simply order an attack and sink the Heavenly Dragon. Why bother with anything else?

It seemed that Waldo had read Alanna’s thoughts and shook his head in resignation. He explained, "You’re thinking too simplistically. Think about why we came all this way. Was it just to sink the Heavenly Dragon? No, obviously not! Our primary goals are experience points, evolution points, and various resources."

"Let’s not even discuss whether our small battleship can truly sink the Heavenly Dragon or how much damage it would inflict. Even if we managed to severely damage it, how would we acquire the resources we need? Simply opening fire would only anger the survivors on the Heavenly Dragon, forcing them to resist to the end. It would be a Pyrrhic victory, and we wouldn’t get what we want."

"That’s why I’m giving them time to consider! Wait and see, by tomorrow, they’ll surrender on their own."

Waldo was confident in his plan. Tomorrow would bring clarity. However, before tomorrow arrived, he needed to make some preparations to prevent any rash actions from the likes of Black Wolf and Green Wolf. These two were unlikely to take defeat lying down. There would likely be some action tonight.

As a result, Waldo quickly issued orders to strengthen their nighttime vigilance and closely monitor any movements on the opposite side.

Soon, nightfall arrived. Over the vast sea, the Flame-class battleship kept a watchful eye on the Heavenly Dragon, observing it closely.

The crew on board the Flame-class battleship showed no signs of worry. Some believed that, with the occurrence of the super tsunami, the continents had sunk. Survival in this world was only possible with the Noah’s Ark. Trying to survive on the open sea was akin to seeking death.

This night, however, was quite beautiful. Despite the members of the Dawn Guard on the Flame-class battleship remaining vigilant, their expressions were relaxed, in stark contrast to the tension of the previous night.

"Heh, tomorrow, the survivors on the Heavenly Dragon will all be our captives!" one member of the Dawn Guard said with a smile. When they had arrived the previous day, he had felt doomed, but now his mood was entirely different. He eagerly looked forward to the arrival of tomorrow.

He urgently wanted to see the survivors from the Heavenly Dragon plead before him.

His companion chimed in, "Yeah! But we could have attacked today. I don’t know why Waldo decided to give them time to think. In my opinion, we should have just fired on them and forced their immediate surrender, or sunk them."

The first speaker pondered for a moment and cautiously responded, "Perhaps Waldo has his reasons. Important figures often have plans we can’t comprehend. We should just follow orders and not overthink things."

Hearing this, the other person nodded in agreement. As they continued their conversation, the two of them gazed out at the vast sea. To be honest, the night was quite beautiful, with stars decorating the sky and their gentle light casting a soft glow.

However, just at that moment...

Swish! Swish!

Two sudden whooshing sounds pierced the air, followed quickly by the sound of crashing waves. Unfortunately, the two members of the Dawn Guard were killed by two poisoned arrows, their eyes dim and lifeless.

Then, about a dozen figures emerged from the sea and landed on the deck.

The night was shrouded in darkness. Previously, they had stealthily traveled on the sea and had not been detected. Now, they had successfully boarded the Flame-class battleship.

"Brothers, the first step is a success! Now, onto the second step! We need to locate their command center and eliminate their commander! Once that’s done, without a leader, they’ll be like scattered soldiers, vulnerable to our attacks! Let’s move!"

The leader spoke with determination, and the others rallied behind him.

"Yes, General Gray Wolf!"

Their morale was high. Indeed, this mission was led by General Gray Wolf, who had assembled a team of ten Colossi for this special operation. They had infiltrated the battleship under the cover of night to conduct a decapitation strike. If their plan succeeded, their crisis would be averted.

With their plan proceeding smoothly, the team was filled with confidence.

Afterward, they began their operation. Disguised as a patrol team of the Dawn Guard, they confidently strolled across the battleship towards the direction of the captain’s quarters.

However, what they didn’t know was that after they left, the two Dawn Guard members they had killed simultaneously opened their eyes. They watched the direction in which the infiltrators had departed and revealed sinister smiles.

"Heh, Waldo seems to have had a premonition; he actually anticipated their nighttime attack! Unfortunately, they’re quite audacious in their plans, but the outcome is bound to be miserable. I have to admit, I’m increasingly impressed with Waldo!"

The two of them exchanged glances and chuckled.

Then, one of them exclaimed in irritation, "Damn it, someone stepped on me several times just now; it hurts! But your retribution will come soon enough!"

Subsequently, they immediately reported their encounter, including the number of infiltrators, what they had done to them, and their direction of movement.
