Chapter 180: Chapter 180: Planting All Over the World
But someone just wouldn’t give up. "I’m going to get more people! I refuse to believe we can’t make her stay!"
Some people looked like they wanted to speak up and stop him but didn’t know what to say. For a moment, the atmosphere froze.
Inside the RV, Lily Hart was oblivious to all this, still enthusiastically greeting her customers.
As a result, they closed up an hour later than the day before. After packing away the scratch-off tickets, everyone gradually came over for dinner.
One by one, they dragged their exhausted bodies and weary faces into the RV, slumping into their seats like zombies. Leo Colby was in slightly better shape than the others.
After all, he only had to sit at the front desk and check in the arriving customers.
Robots handled everything else, but there were just so many people today that he was mentally drained.
Everyone took their seats and sighed in unison. Lily Hart wanted to laugh when she saw them.
She asked cheerfully, "What have you all been up to? You look as tired as if you’d plowed forty acres of fields and carried eighty loads of water."
Roman Rowe listlessly raised a hand and waved it. "You have no idea. Those people were like a pack of wolves today, buying stuff by the truckload!"
Lily Hart felt a pang of guilt. "Is it because I told them I was leaving today?"
The moment the words left her mouth, a flurry of eye-rolls flew her way.
Roman Rowe couldn’t help but complain resentfully, "Boss Hart, next time, can we please just sneak away?"
"Alright, alright, next time for sure. You’re all hungry, right? What should we eat tonight?" Lily Hart agreed perfunctorily.
’Next time, I’ll definitely tell everyone again...’
The people at the table started chattering all at once, calling out dish names. Lily Hart naturally obliged them all. She was making so much money every day now; of course she had to satisfy such a small request!
After eating and drinking their fill, everyone fell into a food coma in unison, their eyes glazed over as they stared blankly ahead.
Silence. A vast silence. After sitting for a while longer, Lily Hart finally spoke slowly, "Tomorrow is our last day. After that, we’re heading to Auspice Base."
The others acknowledged it, long accustomed to this life of picking up and moving on.
So they got up, went their separate ways, and headed off to shower and sleep.
Lily Hart, on the other hand, sent Stan Sterling a message. "BEEP BEEP BEEP, it’s tree-planting time! Get here quick!"
A reply came back quickly. "Coming~" Even through the Light Brain, Lily Hart could feel the cheerfulness radiating from the other side.
The two met up behind the hotel and stared blankly at the two trees they had planted yesterday. One of them was less than knee-high to Lily Hart.
But the other one, which Stan Sterling had specifically dug up to plant as an experiment, had already shot up taller than Lily Hart herself. Now that it was bigger, she recognized it. ’It looks like a pine tree...?’
She tilted her head back to look at it. The crown resembled a pyramid, getting smaller toward the top, and the leaves were like needles, a bit prickly to the touch.
But it was completely safe, showing no signs of mutation whatsoever. It was just a normal, straight pine tree!
What shocked Lily Hart was how fast it was growing. It had grown a meter and a half in a single day! At this rate, wouldn’t it be taller than the three-story hotel in just a few more days?
’That wasn’t a huge problem, but I’m worried that as it gets bigger and bigger, this tiny one-square-meter patch won’t be enough...’
’Whatever.’ Lily Hart squatted down, took out all the little seedlings she had bought today, and announced, "Let’s get planting!"
Not caring whether they were melon sprouts or tree saplings, nor bothering with proper planting technique, Lily Hart simply dug holes and buried the roots, calling it a day.
After planting the eight seedlings she had, the small one-square-meter plot was now full. Fortunately, they were all still small, so it wasn’t crowded for the time being.
But given their growth rate, who knew what it would look like tomorrow.
Lily Hart dusted the dirt off her hands and looked happily at Stan Sterling. "If only we had lots and lots of these soil-improving plants!"
Stan Sterling smiled too, nodding in agreement. "So, Boss Hart, are you planning to cover the whole world with them?"
"Yes and no," Lily Hart said ambiguously, glancing at the newly planted melon sprouts, which were still looking a little wilted.
She called out, "It’s getting late. Let’s go back and sleep." With that, she started walking away.
Stan Sterling followed behind her and suddenly asked, "Are you really going to Auspice Base in a few days?"
Lily Hart’s steps faltered. The thought that he was a spy sent by Auspice Base flashed through her mind. She answered, "That’s right. I’ve had enough of this place."
She stopped walking, and Stan Sterling stopped with her. The two of them, one tall and one short, found their gazes meeting.
Lily Hart’s expression was calm, but the hand in her pocket was clenched into a tight fist. "Are you scared?"
"Scared of what?" Stan Sterling replied quickly, only realizing after the words were out that he had sounded too eager. He tried to smooth it over. "I’m not scared at all."
"I’m living at the Dawn Hotel now. They wouldn’t dare come after me again, especially not with Boss Hart around!" Stan Sterling said seriously.
His eyes were brighter than the stars in the sky. Lily Hart turned her head away, unable to look at him any longer.
She adopted a devil-may-care attitude. "As long as you’re not scared, that’s fine. Just don’t wander around too much when we get there."
After saying that, she turned and bolted, her legs moving so fast that she vanished in the blink of an eye.
Stan Sterling watched her climb into the RV with a smile in his eyes, then slowly ambled into the hotel next door.
Back in his room, Stan Sterling opened the communication app on his Light Brain. The person pinned to the top of his list had sent him many messages.
Without opening the chat, he could only see the most recent one: How is the mission progressing?
But he didn’t look at any of them. The number inside the red notification dot had already surpassed 99. Stan Sterling frowned in annoyance.
Deciding it was out of sight, out of mind, he simply deleted the chat box, then changed into his slippers and went to the bathroom to wash up.
Lily Hart had always been forgetful. One moment she was pondering the matter with Stan Sterling, and the next, she was pounced on by Nana as she reached the second floor and forgot everything.
When she looked up again, the Little Red Flower, King, was standing on the table. Its two petals were curved downward, and it had its slender stem akimbo in a look of smug defiance.
She went over and ruffled its petals, messing them up completely. King let out an indignant shriek.
The second floor of the RV instantly burst into chaos as King used its tiny body to chase after Lily Hart.
Nana and Lily wouldn’t allow it. They teased King as if it were a toy, batting it left and right, not letting it get past them.
Lily Hart made her escape, standing with her hands on her hips as she laughed at them. Suddenly, she felt something was off. She looked down at her own hands-on-hips pose.
’Now I know who this little guy King learned it from!’
She turned to go take a shower. Behind her, the happy meows of the cat and the furious roars of King mingled together, a combination that wasn’t entirely unpleasant to the ear.
Lily Hart smiled so wide her eyes crinkled. She fished out her pajamas and went into the bathroom, still able to vaguely hear the commotion outside after closing the door.
Time always flies when you’re sleeping. Lily Hart felt like she had just closed her eyes, and now it was already time to get up and open for business again.
Yawning, she went downstairs, bracing herself mentally before opening up the four sides of the RV.
Just as she expected, a huge crowd was outside, waiting for her to open up. Lily Hart glanced at the sun, which was just peeking over the horizon.
She couldn’t help but ask, "Aren’t you guys tired, waking up so early?"
They all shook their heads in unison. "Not at all! We’re full of energy."
"Well, Boss Hart is about to leave, so I thought I’d come early and get a few more scratch-offs. I didn’t expect everyone else to have the same idea."
"I know, right? I was afraid if I didn’t scratch a few more today, I’d never get the chance again..."
