Chapter 193: Chapter 193: Target

With a thought, her spiritual power surged into the villa space, and Xie Ning quickly turned on all the lights.

She scanned her surroundings.

Thank goodness. When her Space Ability Energy had run out before, the entire Space hadn’t changed at all.

That super-massive Water Ball was still floating silently above the terrace, showing no signs of pouring down.

This was fantastic!

It felt like she’d found a treasure!

Amid her excitement, Xie Ning immediately forced herself to calm down.

’Why am I getting so excited and happy?’

’The Space is just a supportive tool; I absolutely cannot let it become a crutch.’

After her last experience, Xie Ning was even more certain that she couldn’t rely too much on the Space in the future.

Furthermore, she couldn’t excessively rely on her Gold Element or Spiritual Abilities either.

She had to continue training her body, improving her speed, strength, and overall agility and capability to enhance her own combat prowess.

That way, even if she lost everything one day, she, Xie Ning, would still be the strongest among ordinary people. She wouldn’t just fall from her pedestal and become a good-for-nothing piece of trash!

With that thought, she hurriedly turned off all the lights in the villa, leaving only a single wall lamp on the terrace lit.

Xie Ning now understood that whether it was moving things or using anything inside her portable villa, it would consume her Space Ability Energy.

Turning on the lights surely did too.

The energy consumed was probably quite small, but it would still slowly drain her energy without her noticing.

The young woman pursed her lips seriously and tried to pull a small Water Ball out of the super-massive Water Ball on the terrace.

As a Third-stage Superpower User of the Space System, her control over everything within her Space should be masterful.

Thus, she extracted the small Water Ball almost instantly.

Song Shijun finished repairing the small partition door. He turned around, holding a pair of pliers, and had just started to say, "Sis, the door is fixed—"

A small Water Ball flew at him head-on, exploding against his chest with a SPLAT.

Caught completely off guard, Song Shijun’s eyes widened. He stood there stunned, finally stammering out a sentence after a long moment, "Sis, did... did you awaken a Water Ability?"

"How did it feel?" Xie Ning hopped off the bed barefoot and hurried to her brother’s side. "Did the Water Ball have any force when it hit?"

"A... a little bit."

"How does it compare to Mom’s Water Balls?"

"About the same, I guess?"

’So there’s a huge gap compared to a real Water Ability User.’

After all, their mother was only a First Rank Water Element user, while she was a Third Rank in the Space System.

Xie Ning nodded, pulled out a dry towel to wipe the water from the boy’s face, and smiled at him, her eyes curving. "Shijun, I don’t think our family will have to worry about water anymore."

’Didn’t we already stop worrying about that?’ Song Shijun thought.

But he still played along with his sister, breaking into a huge grin. "Sis, is this your third awakening??"

"No." Xie Ning shook her head. "This is a ball of water I moved out of the Space. It’s nothing compared to Mom’s Water Balls."

"From now on, Mom can contribute more water to the base, and I’ll supply all the water for our family. Why don’t we take turns accompanying Mom to the base’s water-filling point? That way, she’ll have company, and we can handle any emergencies."

"Okay!"

’My sister truly is a loving little angel!’ Song Shijun thought.

...

"Guess who I just ran into?" Ma Guilan ducked into the tent, her face alight with excitement and her grimy features creased in a wide smile.

Seeing her mother enter, Song Zhaodi quickly lowered her head and shrank into a corner, pretending to tidy a few dirty old clothes.

"Mom, I’m dying of thirst! Is the base handing out water today or not?"

Song Jiabao shouted in frustration, banging his fists on the small wooden table in front of him. "I want water! I want water!"

"Jia Bao, don’t worry. Our good days are coming soon." A faint smile flickered across Song Kuang’s wife’s gaunt, dark-complexioned face.

"What on earth are you talking about?" Song Kuang mumbled, sighing nonstop. "You were out for so long. Did you find anything to eat or drink or not?"

"What’s your hurry?" Ma Guilan shot the man a glance. "Let me tell you, I just discovered a huge treasure."

Noticing the other two refugee families in the tent staring over at her eagerly, Ma Guilan quickly lowered her voice, walked over to her husband, and whispered, "Do you know who I ran into?"

"Who? Just say it! Stop being so mysterious," the man roared impatiently.

His lips were dry and his throat felt like it was on fire; he didn’t even want to open his mouth to speak.

But this Ma Guilan just had to drag things out, which was incredibly annoying.

Ma Guilan slapped the man hard. "Song Youxuan."

"Huh?" Song Kuang’s listless spirit instantly revived a little. "Who did you say? Song Yaoguo’s younger daughter?"

"Who else?" Ma Guilan cackled.

"What’s she doing here??" Song Kuang quickly sat up straight. "Shouldn’t she be at the villa—"

"Shh." Ma Guilan gestured for him to be quiet, a sinister glint in her small eyes. "Don’t you get it? She must have gotten separated from them. Song Youxuan is still completely in the dark; she has no idea her parents are here too."

"I saw her with her daughter, shacked up with some strange man in tent 1126."

"A strange man?" Song Kuang grinned. "No way. What about her husband, Su Chao? Did he abandon her and their daughter?"

"Who knows about that?" Ma Guilan muttered under her breath. "Over the next couple of days, we’ll get closer to her and make her owe us a few favors."

Song Kuang frowned. "Are you sure this will work? Last time, Song You’ai chased us off with a knife."

"This time, we’ll be the ones helping her dear sister. So what? Shouldn’t we be rewarded for helping someone?" Ma Guilan rummaged through a tattered cloth bag and finally pulled out a small pack of sandwich cookies.

"Mom, what are you doing?" Song Jiabao lunged for the cookies. "Those are mine, mine!"

"Jia Bao, don’t be impatient. Our good days are still ahead. Listen to Mom, let’s give this pack of cookies to your Little Aunt Youxuan first. We’ll definitely get ten, a hundred times more back from them later."

Song Jiabao looked skeptical. "Are you serious, Mom?"

"When have I ever lied to you?" Ma Guilan patted her son’s shoulder. "Just watch me."

She stood up and suddenly kicked Song Xue, who was huddled in the corner. "What are you doing lazing around? You think food will just fall from the sky if you lie there? I heard the base is setting up a big cafeteria and they’re hiring dishwashers. You and Zhaodi should both go try out."

"I think the pay is five hundred points per person per month."

Song Xue shrank closer to Song Zhaodi, her head bowed like a quail.

"What are you doing?" Ma Guilan yelled. "I told you, you don’t have the life of a rich young miss, so stop pretending. Get up and go look for work. Our family doesn’t support freeloaders."

Song Zhaodi scrambled to her feet, pulling Song Xue with her as she ran out of the tent.

Ma Guilan spat.
