Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Solara 1
[Player Perry Yates
Welcome back to the survival game.
This round’s game is Solara City.
The game’s survival duration is thirty days. Those who survive to the end will receive a generous reward.
On day fifteen of the game, there will be one opportunity to withdraw. If you find you cannot continue, please take this chance.
Those who withdraw early will not receive any rewards.
Friendly Reminder: In this game, *** locals will also be participating.]
As the system’s voice faded, Perry Yates found herself standing at an intersection. Beside her was a traffic light, which had just turned from red to green.
Around her were many people whose clothes seemed completely out of place.
Despite the scorching weather, these people were wearing long sleeves and pants. Some even had their faces completely obscured by masks and sunglasses, looking very strange and drawing many sideways glances from the people around them.
Fortunately, Perry Yates had already learned some information about this round of the game. Otherwise, she would have been counted among this group of strange people.
Pretending to be an ordinary NPC, she discreetly moved away from these people, but she didn’t go far.
In the two previous rounds of the game, the first was in a jungle with no one but the players.
The second round, although it had NPCs, they weren’t human.
So this time, opening her eyes to find herself in a city was a completely new experience for Perry Yates.
She had read posts about similar games on the forums before, but the posters had limited writing skills, and their explanations weren’t very clear.
Just then, a player shouted to everyone around, "We’ll gather at the central plaza at noon. Until then, find clues on your own."
’Are they planning to work together?’
But it made sense. In the previous two games, you could guess the game’s content and the dangers you’d face from the name alone, but this time, the game’s name was just the name of a city.
She looked up at the sky, and the glaring sunlight made it a little hard for her to keep her eyes open.
’Forget it. I should get out of here.’
Perry Yates had no intention of working with these people.
As Perry Yates turned and walked away, a few inconspicuous blades of grass quietly sprouted from the spot where she had just been standing.
Because the weather outside was simply too hot, Perry Yates ducked into a nearby shopping mall.
The moment she entered the mall, a blast of cold air washed over her, instantly dispelling the heat.
Perry Yates noticed that the mall was very crowded. Most people seemed to be there for the same reason she was: to freeload off the air conditioning.
After looking around, Perry Yates saw that everyone was holding a phone, so she decided to buy one for herself first.
Soon, Perry Yates had picked out a phone.
Since she wouldn’t be staying here for very long, there was no need to buy an expensive phone. As long as it was functional, it would be good enough.
After paying, Perry Yates found a random place to sit down and started scrolling through her phone, though she was actually looking for a place to stay.
Before entering the game, she had already learned about the situation here, so she had brought some money with her—about twenty to thirty thousand—which should be enough for her to live on.
In urban map games, the currency was usually the same as Cerulea’s by default.
So she didn’t need to get a job, and she had enough supplies as well.
So now, Perry Yates had only three tasks before her: first, find a place to live; second, survive here for thirty days; and third, find the cards.
In this type of game, the cards could be hidden anywhere.
Half an hour later, Perry Yates put down her phone, a little discouraged.
She had been searching for a long time without finding anything suitable. Almost all the apartments required a three-month deposit and one month’s rent paid upfront, or a one-month deposit and one month’s rent.
’But I might not even stay in those places for a full month. It’s a complete waste of money.’
’Forget it. I’ll just look for a guesthouse.’
This time, Perry Yates moved quickly. She soon found an affordable guesthouse and booked a room online for two weeks.
After securing her accommodations, Perry Yates was about to leave when, at the very moment she stood up, she suddenly saw something pinned under a nearby trash can. It looked a lot like a card.
After pulling it out from under the trash can, she saw that it was indeed a card—and a one-star card at that.
Recycling Trash Can: Tossing unwanted items inside has a one percent chance of triggering the "Trash to Treasure" effect.
’Not bad. A good start.’
’And this item looks really useful. I won’t have to worry about where to throw my trash anymore.’
Because she had found a card near a trash can, Perry Yates paid close attention to her surroundings for the rest of the way, afraid that a moment’s inattention might cause her to miss another card.
However, she didn’t dare to search too openly, as she didn’t want other players to discover her own player status.
Speak of the devil.
Just as Perry Yates was looking around, she saw two people walking toward her who were also looking around in the same manner.
Perry Yates recognized them as players almost instantly; she had seen them before.
The two people walking toward her didn’t recognize Perry Yates, but they had noticed her looking around.
Then, one of them strode forward a few steps, blocked Perry Yates’s path, and asked in a low voice, "Player?"
Perry Yates looked at him with a blank expression, showing no reaction at all.
NPCs in the game don’t react to any topics related to players.
Perry Yates showed a look of displeasure at being blocked, but when her eyes met his, her expression turned wary.
Then she turned, walked around the man, and muttered curses under her breath.
"She didn’t react at all just now. She’s probably not a player."
This thought was further confirmed when they saw Perry Yates, after walking away, happily rush over to a vendor selling tanghulu.
’If she were a player, how could she not be in a hurry to find clues? Why would she be buying tanghulu instead?’
Seeing the two walk away, Perry Yates couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
"Sir, it looks like something’s stuck under your cart. Let me get it for you."
As she spoke, Perry Yates bent down and peeled a card off from under the cart. With the vendor’s thanks, she turned and left.
After walking some distance, Perry Yates glanced at the object in her hand. It was a White Card, and on its face were two skewers of plump, shiny red tanghulu that looked incredibly tempting.
It seemed the card’s appearance matched where it was found.
For example, the trash can card was found by a trash can, and the tanghulu card was found under the tanghulu vendor’s cart.
After arriving at the guesthouse, Perry Yates got her room key from the owner.
"We serve breakfast here every morning from eight to ten."
’Great, they provide breakfast, too. That’s another expense saved.’
Back in her room, Perry Yates flopped directly onto the bed and took out the two cards she had just found.
