Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Glacial Realm 22

Gary Goodman and his team had limited space in their backpacks, so even after opening all the treasure boxes, they couldn’t carry away all the resources.

So, they could only take the most important items with them.

Cards were a given, and for food, they prioritized items that were filling and had a long shelf life.

One team member looked at the food they were leaving behind. On the principle that if they couldn’t have it, neither could the enemy, a flicker of flame appeared in his hand.

Due to the frigid environment, the flame in his hand looked exceptionally small.

Before, Gary Goodman wouldn’t have stopped him. But now...

After learning what Perry Yates had done, his perspective had changed.

It was now the fifteenth day of the game—no, the sixteenth.

They had seen how dangerous this game was. Instead of facing the Snow-Ox Clan, who could appear at any moment out in the open, it would be better to eliminate the clan members and the traitorous players right here.

That way, they could stay here, greatly increasing their chances of surviving the rest of the game.

Besides, their haul this time was more than enough; they could go back and report a successful mission.

Staying in a safe place and reducing the risk of something going wrong was a much better option than continuing to search for treasure boxes and facing unpredictable dangers.

Having made up his mind, Gary Goodman shared his thoughts with the rest of the team.

The others were stunned for a moment, but once they processed it, they all agreed.

"Captain, when do we make our move?"

Gary Goodman didn’t speak. Instead, he turned to look at Perry Yates, who was still picking out her favorite food, and asked, "How long does that item of yours last?"

Perry Yates looked up from the pile of food. "Anyone who fell asleep won’t wake up for a full twelve hours," she said. "As for the others who are still awake, their bodies will still relax involuntarily."

The others were all shocked to hear this.

"Then why didn’t we feel anything?"

Perry Yates tucked a small cream cake she’d found into her Space Backpack. "Because you’ve all been on high alert," she explained, "the Sleeping Cloud Mist has no effect on you."

With this information, Gary Goodman and his team decided to eliminate the Snow-Ox Clan sentries first, then deal with the rest of them.

After the team left, Perry Yates picked out a few more of her favorite foods, then turned and left as well.

Gary Goodman and his team had decided to spend the rest of the game here, but she had no intention of staying. ’After all, if I stay here, there are a lot of things I won’t be able to use freely.’

After returning to Claudia Vance, Perry Yates took out her Spiritual Ability Gun. Using her ski goggles’ targeting feature, she located a lone member of the Snow-Ox Clan.

This member of the Snow-Ox Clan was on patrol, so he hadn’t fallen asleep.

But even though he was awake, he was yawning constantly, his guard completely down.

Gary Goodman’s team had already begun their assault.

As professionally trained operatives, their movements were far more decisive than those of an amateur like Perry Yates.

However, because the Snow-Ox Clan were so large and had such tough hides, killing them was no easy task.

Meanwhile, Perry Yates’s first shot hit the Snow-Ox clansman’s body directly.

But whether it was because the cold air dulled his sense of pain, or because the shot hadn’t hit a vital area, the Snow-Ox clansman didn’t have much of a reaction.

Perry Yates, however, leaned toward the former explanation.

She could clearly see a small patch of the clansman’s clothing already stained red with blood.

’If one shot isn’t enough, I’ll just use a few more.’

After she fired seven or eight consecutive shots, the Snow-Ox clansman’s body finally crashed to the ground.

Seeing that he was finally dead, Perry Yates put her Spiritual Ability Gun away and didn’t look for another target.

The Spiritual Ability Gun could be fatal to players, but not necessarily to the Snow-Ox Clan. Their bodies were simply too large; while the gun could hurt them, the damage was limited.

Besides, in this freezing environment, they might not even feel the injuries.

’All in all, it just wasn’t powerful enough.’

’At this rate, it would be faster to kill them with my vines.’

Perry Yates sighed. ’Looks like I need to perform an Ascension on the Spiritual Ability Gun when I get back,’ she thought. ’Forget five-star, I need to at least get it to four-star.’

Thinking of the cards in her Card Storage Device, Perry Yates had a sudden thought. ’All these cards need Ascension, and that takes a ton of energy. I wonder if the prey in my Space Backpack is enough... I should probably go hunt some more.’

With that thought, Perry Yates prepared to leave. After all, her time was running out.

"Hey, I’ve got something to take care of, so I’m heading out now."

She spoke into the nearby item monitor, then tossed it down before they could respond.

Once she was some distance away, Perry Yates waved her hand and released the Little Ferret from her system backpack.

"Same deal as always," she said. "Help me find prey. You get a piece of roast meat for every one you find."

"SQUEAK SQUEAK."

The Little Ferret chirped, as if to say, "No problem."

「The eighteenth day of the game.」

Under the Little Ferret’s guidance, Perry Yates found a herd of Snow Elk.

Prey had become more plentiful, likely due to the appearance of Snow Grass.

Over the past two days, Perry Yates had been harvesting ten to twenty-something prey animals each day.

Aside from the increase in prey, she noticed something else: the number of treasure boxes seemed to have increased, as had her encounters with the Snow-Ox Clan.

Before, she might not have even encountered them once in several days, but now she was running into them several times a day.

Furthermore, Perry Yates discovered that the Snow-Ox Clan seemed to be migrating en masse. She couldn’t tell if they had received some news or if this was simply their custom.

They were all gathering to live in one place and had become extremely vigilant. They guarded their food, clothes, treasure boxes, and cards with the utmost care, patrolling almost twenty-four hours a day, terrified that someone would steal from them.

Under these circumstances, even if Perry was tempted by the loot, there was no way for her to make a move.

Seeing this, Perry Yates sighed in resignation. ’I guess I should just stick to hunting,’ she thought, ’and maybe look for some high-level treasure boxes on the side.’

Although the number of treasure boxes had increased, they were mostly common ones containing food. High-level treasure boxes were still rare.

Fortunately, Perry Yates had the advantage of a high vantage point, and with her excellent eyesight, she was certain she could spot any high-level treasure boxes that appeared in the vicinity.
