Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Glacial Realm 21
Once she was ready to kill for their loot, Perry Yates began to observe the other party’s movements.
After observing for some time, she discovered that the players here didn’t have the low status of those in the previous strongholds. Of course, that didn’t apply to the newly captured ones.
But now, fifteen days had passed. Of the players who had been locked up, those who hadn’t submitted to becoming zombie players had long since escaped.
The players here seemed to have a very high status. At least on the surface, they were equals with the Snow-Ox Clan and could even trade cards.
In fact, some of the cards were even kept by the players themselves.
After confirming the target’s location, a card appeared in Perry Yates’s hand.
The card depicted something like a cloud, but it looked lighter and more ethereal, like mist.
This was the Sleeping Cloud Mist card.
It was a card Perry Yates had created by using Ascension on a White Card.
Originally, it was a single-use card that could only be used on one person, making them feel drowsy.
After Ascension, it had changed into its current form.
While it couldn’t put everyone to sleep instantly, anyone who came into contact with the Sleeping Cloud Mist would feel their body relax, making it easier to drift off.
With a thought from Perry Yates, the card in her hand vanished, transforming into a thin wisp of mist that drifted down below.
The Sleeping Cloud Mist’s effect wasn’t immediate, but the Snow-Ox Clan members and humans who were already relaxed let out an involuntary yawn upon contact.
They didn’t think much of it. After all, it was getting late—a good time for sleep anyway.
Some people still had tasks to do and fought off the drowsiness. Others, who were idle, and some children with weaker resistance, simply drifted off to sleep.
Perry Yates watched this unfold.
’Sleep, sleep,’ she thought. ’With the Sleeping Cloud Mist, they won’t wake up before morning, not even for a thunderstorm.’
As night fell, more and more people succumbed to sleep. The entire city grew quiet. Even the guards were affected, yawning incessantly.
Meanwhile, Gary Goodman’s team began their operation after dark. They left one person outside to communicate with the sky-monitor and give them real-time updates.
On her end, Perry Yates had already started her operation, a step ahead of them.
She came down from Claudia Vance, first visiting every location where cards were hidden and collecting them all. Next, she headed to where the players were gathered.
Perry Yates went from room to room, dispatching all the players who were deep in slumber.
She found many more cards on the players. Although they were all item cards, most were three-star. There were over a dozen four-star cards, and including the one she had seen earlier, a total of five five-star cards.
Looking at the cards, Perry Yates deduced that these players must have been in this world for a very long time. It was even possible that they were among the very first players to settle here.
Otherwise, given the Snow-Ox Clan’s attitude of treating players as mere tools, it was impossible to explain how they had acquired cards as rare as five-star ones.
After stashing the cards away, Perry Yates found Gary Goodman and his team already moving treasure boxes inside the warehouse.
Their operation had been exceptionally smooth; they had gotten in with almost no effort.
Upon reaching the warehouse, they were surprised to find the guards slacking off and dozing.
After dealing with the guards, they entered the warehouse smoothly. The sight of a warehouse packed with treasure boxes made their breathing quicken.
"Captain, what are we waiting for? Let’s get to it," one of them urged.
He’d had his eye on a golden-red treasure box for a while now. This time, he was determined to pull a four-star card.
According to the Survival Game Administration’s rules, if players found a card matching their own attribute, they had the right to absorb it.
Hearing this, Gary Goodman glanced over his shoulder. He couldn’t shake the feeling that this operation was going too smoothly.
But even if he sensed something was off, there was no way they were giving up now.
"Keep it down. Don’t alert anyone," Gary Goodman instructed.
As agents of an official organization, of course they had Space Backpacks. Theirs were only one-star, though, with just ten cubic meters of space.
To save space, they simply opened the treasure boxes on the spot. Without even looking at the contents, they stuffed everything into their Space Backpacks.
That was when Perry Yates walked in.
When Gary Goodman saw Perry Yates appear, his eyes widened. Things that hadn’t made sense before suddenly clicked into place.
"What did you do?" Gary Goodman asked.
Hearing this, Perry Yates just shrugged. It was nothing, she said. She’d just used an item to make the people and the Snow-Ox Clan drowsy, ensuring they’d sleep more soundly once they nodded off.
A look of sudden understanding dawned on Gary Goodman’s face. ’No wonder it was so easy for us. So that’s how it was.’
But he quickly thought of something else. "You’re saying all the Snow-Ox Clan here are out cold?"
Perry Yates nodded. "I guarantee a thunderstorm wouldn’t wake them. However, my item only makes them sleepy and helps them fall asleep. It has a limited effect on those with strong willpower, like the guards. You should have noticed that on your way in."
A sharp glint flashed in Gary Goodman’s eyes after he heard what Perry Yates said.
If what she said was true, then they would have plenty of time... and a chance for revenge.
Unlike Perry Yates, who had only witnessed the Snow-Ox Clan’s brutality on the second day of the game, Gary Goodman and his team had barely escaped them with their lives.
After saying her piece, Perry Yates joined in opening the treasure boxes. As for the contents? Of course, she was keeping whatever she found.
Gary Goodman had promised her ten treasure boxes as payment, but hey, plans change.
In this situation, if Gary Goodman had dared to insist she only take ten treasure boxes, Perry Yates would have turned on him in a heartbeat.
As for the fact that she could have had it all but was now sharing with others—and that the golden-red treasure boxes had clearly been taken before she arrived—was she unhappy about it?
Honestly, she was a little annoyed.
But Perry Yates wasn’t a petty person. Besides, her total haul was much greater than it appeared.
She could just consider those few golden-red treasure boxes a gift to them.
