Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Glacial Realm 19

Perry Yates breathed a sigh of relief.

’Good, I wasn’t spotted.’ Still, she had no intention of staying here any longer.

At least, not right now.

’I’ll wait for nightfall and come back under the cover of darkness.’

With her decision made, Perry Yates temporarily stored the Little Ferret in her Space Backpack, then began to steer Claudia Vance slowly away from the area.

She didn’t dare to leave too quickly.

She wasn’t afraid of the Snow-Ox Clan; after all, she was high up in the sky. It was the other players she was truly worried about.

Especially since, from what she had observed, these players seemed to hold a rather high status within the city.

They could at least move about freely and even stand guard on the walls, which was a clear sign of trust.

A full hour later, Perry Yates finally reached a spot a safe distance from the city wall, prompting another sigh of relief.

But her relief was short-lived. A bird suddenly flew right up to her.

She looked at the bird that had landed before her, making eye contact with it through her ski goggles.

Just then, the bird suddenly spoke. "You’re a player too, right? Come on down for a chat."

"Can I refuse?" Perry Yates asked.

"What do you think? Why don’t you take a look below?"

At his words, Perry Yates glanced down to see that several players had appeared below at some point. They were now aiming their weapons right at her.

"Don’t worry, we mean you no harm. We just saw you go into that city, so we wanted to talk to you about a potential partnership."

In the end, Perry Yates descended, but she didn’t dismiss Claudia Vance.

For one thing, it was convenient and could act as a shield in a critical moment. For another, walking on the snow was exhausting; one wrong step and you could easily sink in.

Then, the bird that had just spoken to her flew down as well, transforming into a man upon landing.

A nearby player saw this, immediately stepping forward to drape thick clothes over him before escorting him away from that exact spot.

"Hello, I’m Gary Goodman," said one of the heavily bundled figures.

"Perry Yates."

Perry Yates thought for a moment but decided to give her real name.

"What kind of partnership did you want to discuss?"

Because she was bundled up from head to toe, Perry Yates’s voice sounded a little muffled.

"It’s like this. I’m from the Stenwall Survival Game Administration, and we’d like you to help us create a map of the city’s layout."

’Oh, so that’s all it is.’

Perry Yates nodded. "Alright. What’s in it for me?"

Perry Yates faced the group without showing a hint of fear.

With her abilities, she could have escaped just now if she’d wanted to. However, after that close call, she knew this situation was different from the stockade she’d dealt with before.

She might not be able to handle this on her own.

"What do you want?" Gary Goodman asked.

"Skill Cards."

Perry Yates said without the slightest hesitation.

After all, for players, Skill Cards were the most precious resource and the fastest way to grow stronger.

In response, Gary Goodman said, "We can’t give you Skill Cards directly. However, after the job is done, we can let you take ten Golden Treasure Chests. But whether you can get any cards from them will depend on your luck."

Hearing this, Perry Yates nodded. "Ten Golden Treasure Chests will do."

After all, in her experience, the probability of getting a Skill Card from a Golden Treasure Chest was quite high.

"By the way, what’s your Main Attribute?" Gary Goodman asked.

"Wood Attribute."

"If it’s Wood Attribute, you might be disappointed. Most of the Skill Cards produced in this game are of the Ice and Water Attributes."

"I know." Perry Yates shrugged. "But something is better than nothing. Besides, there’s always offline trading."

Gary Goodman nodded. "In that case, I look forward to our successful cooperation."

"To our successful cooperation."

Through their conversation, Perry Yates learned that they had originally assembled over a hundred people to attack the Snow-Ox Clan here. But that morning, after hearing a system announcement, many had chosen to quit the game. Fewer than twenty people remained, and all of them were from the Survival Game Administration.

Due to their reduced numbers, the planned assault had now become a stealth mission, and their target was the collected treasure boxes.

"According to our investigation, the Snow-Ox Clan seems to survive on the food and clothes they get from opening the treasure boxes."

"Some of the higher-level treasure boxes haven’t been opened and have instead been hidden away. Those are our target this time."

Also, due to their numbers, their operation couldn’t cause a major disturbance. It was best to just grab the goods and leave.

Perry Yates listened to their plan from the side. ’It seems these people don’t know about the Skill Cards yet,’ she thought.

Gary Goodman handed Perry Yates something that looked like a surveillance device.

"This is a surveillance item. What you’re holding is the transmitter and camera; I have the receiver here."

"In a moment, all you need to do is ride Claudia Vance and fly a loop in the air. You can leave the rest to us."

At this point, Perry Yates suddenly asked, "Since you have the tool, why not have the player who can turn into a bird do it? Why did you need to find me?"

In response, Gary Goodman said, "You think we haven’t tried? But the Snow-Ox Clan in there are extremely sensitive to any approaching creatures other than their own kind. Once spotted, you’re killed instantly."

Perry Yates glanced at the eye-like device in her hand and nodded. ’So that’s why.’

She enveloped herself with Claudia Vance and flew up toward the sky.

Since this was just a reconnaissance mission, she increased her altitude. With the experience from her last attempt, she didn’t hurry this time, flying unhurriedly toward the target.

After some time, Perry Yates finally arrived in the airspace above her destination.

Meanwhile, on the other side, someone exclaimed in delight, "We’ve got it! We’ve got it! We have a feed!"

Meanwhile, Perry Yates circled in the sky with the camera. As she transmitted the captured footage, she also searched for the location where the Skill Cards were hidden.

In Perry Yates’s view, a place this large was sure to have a considerable number of Skill Cards.

Because of this thought, Perry Yates searched with great care.

Of course, the main reason was her fear of being discovered; she didn’t dare to move erratically and could only take her time.

As the saying goes, persistence pays off. Soon enough, Perry Yates found where the cards were located.

It was quite a coincidence, actually.

She saw a player run off in a certain direction, their face alight with joy, so she took a closer look. She watched as the person entered a room. A moment later, they emerged with a White Card in their hand.

And that was how Perry Yates successfully discovered the first place where the cards were being kept.
