Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Glacial Realm 18
The Little Ferret was in Perry Yates’s arms, watching the scene.
Once, it had been one of them. But now, it had found a golden meal ticket. Not only did it get to eat its fill every day, but it also ate exceptionally well.
The Little Ferret thought to itself, smugly taking a bite of the roasted meat in its paws.
Although the meat had grown hard due to the cold, the Little Ferret didn’t mind at all. It continued to eat cheerfully, its little tail wagging back and forth.
"Squeak squeak."
’You wanted prey, didn’t you? Here they all are.’
Perry Yates, of course, also knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and had no intention of missing it.
Perhaps because they lived here, their only daily worry was finding enough food and warmth. There were simply no predators around.
The only ones that might pose a threat, the Snow-Ox Clan, looked down on them with contempt, so these small animals weren’t very vigilant.
Even when a strangely dressed person like Perry Yates descended from Claudia Vance, it didn’t draw much attention. The animals just went about their business.
Perry Yates figured they probably thought she was too small to be a threat. After all, the rabbits here were as big as goats on Cerulea.
Just then, a large rooster covered in white feathers strolled leisurely past her. It was nearly as big as she was.
Looking at its snow-white back, Perry Yates suddenly felt the urge to jump on and ride it. ’That would definitely be a thrill.’
She recalled living in the countryside for a while as a child. Her family had a big yellow dog back then, and she, being young, would actually ride on its back and wander around.
She had forgotten many things from her childhood, but this memory remained vivid to this day.
But after she grew up, she never rode a dog again.
In the end, Perry Yates suppressed the urge.
’No need for the Spiritual Ability Gun for something like this. That would be overkill.’
With a thought, a knife appeared in Perry Yates’s hand.
She quickly approached the big rooster that had just passed her, grabbed its neck, and slit its throat before it could struggle, then stored it in her Space Backpack.
Boosted by her combat and hunting skills, Perry Yates’s movements were fast, precise, and ruthless.
’Come to think of it, those attributeless cards that guy sold are really useful, especially the X-ray vision and Instant Teleportation Skills.’
’Without those two Skills, my haul today would have been nowhere near this big.’
Perry Yates was very clear on this point. The Snow-Ox Clan’s stockade was huge, and the box containing the cards was tiny. If not for her X-ray vision, she might have turned the entire place upside down and still not found them.
’I should have bought more back then.’
Perry Yates made up her mind. If she ever ran into that player again, she would definitely buy more cards.
’I just wonder where that person got all those attributeless cards.’
In fact, Perry Yates already had a theory.
’If I can perform Ascension on cards, why couldn’t someone else be able to make them?’
Shaking off her thoughts, Perry Yates turned her attention back to the other animals.
Although their vigilance was low, it wasn’t non-existent. To avoid scaring off all her prey, Perry Yates simply activated her Invisibility mode.
To avoid making any sound with her feet, she simply stood on Claudia Vance below her. ’They’re both white, anyway.’
After successfully hunting more than ten times in a row, someone—no, some *animal*—finally noticed something was wrong.
A sound like an "alarm" rang out. The next second, as if by magic, all the animals vanished in an instant.
They were so fast that Perry Yates couldn’t even see an afterimage.
Seeing all her prey disappear, Perry Yates had a look of regret on her face.
’How did they find me out? I was just getting into the swing of things.’
With a sigh, Perry Yates took the Little Ferret and returned to the sky.
「The fifteenth day of the game.」
Early in the morning, the game system’s voice rang out in the ears of all players simultaneously:
[Fifteen days of game time have passed. Does the player wish to exit now?
Friendly Reminder: If you exit now, you will be unable to take any items acquired in the game. Please choose carefully.]
"I’m not exiting."
She didn’t even have to think about the answer.
After all, she had obtained quite a few cards in this game, including many Advanced Cards.
If people knew how many cards she had on her right now, it would probably cause an uproar across all of Cerulea.
After she made her choice, everything around her returned to normal.
Perry Yates stroked the Little Ferret sleeping in her arms, then glanced down below, wondering why the Snow-Ox Clan hadn’t woken up yet. ’I’m still waiting for them to lead the way.’
’It’s already the fifteenth day of the game. It seems like there’s still half the time left, but it’s really only five days.’
’I’ve already decided to hide for the last ten days.’
’For the sake of my own life, I don’t want to take even the slightest risk.’
While waiting, Perry Yates looked down. Many small, blue grass shoots had sprouted on the snowy ground, growing strong against the cold wind.
’This must be the Snow Grass.’
Looking at the fully grown Snow Grass, what could she say? ’Aside from the color being wrong, this Snow Grass looks... really grassy.’
’It feels like the grass you see in cartoons.’
Perry Yates didn’t have to wait long. The Snow-Ox Clan soon emerged from the caves where they had been hiding.
Upon seeing the blue Snow Grass growing on the snow, Perry Yates clearly saw flashes of surprise and greed in their eyes.
But this look only lasted for a moment before it vanished, replaced by expressions of fear and complexity, as if the Snow Grass were some kind of terrifying beast.
In contrast to the adult members of the Snow-Ox Clan, who showed aversion to the Snow Grass, the younger ones looked excited.
She watched as they happily flopped onto the ground and began to eat the grass, their expressions so blissful you’d think they were eating the most delicious food in the world.
「After several more hours of travel.」
At noon on the fifteenth day, the Snow-Ox Clan finally reached their destination.
Perry Yates stared at the massive structure that had appeared before her. It was even larger than the previous stone stockade.
This could no longer be called a stockade; it was a city.
There were guards stationed at the gate and patrols on the walls. Among them were many players, or rather, traces of Humankind.
Inside the city, all sorts of facilities were available; there was even a marketplace.
Just then, one of the patrolling guards suddenly glanced up at the sky.
His suspicious, scrutinizing gaze sent a shiver down Perry Yates’s spine.
To avoid being discovered, she slowly raised Claudia Vance’s altitude to stay out of attack range.
Fortunately, the cloud cover was thick today, providing perfect cover for Perry Yates. After finding nothing out of the ordinary, the man quickly looked away.
