Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Glacial Realm 6
Seeing the clothes, Perry Yates couldn’t help but recall certain details about the Snow-Ox Clan.
The clothes worn by the Snow-Ox Clan all seemed to bear signs of being stitched together.
’Could it be that all the clothes they wear are pieced together from these garments?’
’The more I think about it, the more likely it seems.’ Perry Yates felt she had stumbled upon the truth.
Originally, Perry Yates hadn’t planned on being completely ruthless. After all, every species has its own way of surviving.
But after what she had seen during the day, that thought vanished in an instant.
’What bullshit "way of survival."’ Now, only one thought remained in Perry Yates’s mind: mercy for the enemy is cruelty to oneself.
With that thought, she reached for the mountain-high pile of clothes. The next moment, the pile began to shrink at a visible rate.
About ten minutes later, all the clothes in the cellar had been stowed away in Perry Yates’s Space Backpack. Not even a single scrap of cloth was left behind.
After the clothes, the food couldn’t be forgotten either.
There was less food than there were clothes, likely due to daily consumption.
She spent another ten minutes or so collecting all the food into her Space Backpack.
With all of it gone, the space suddenly felt much emptier.
This also allowed Perry Yates to discover quite a few things besides clothes and food.
"Is this a snowboard? And there’s even a snowmobile!"
A flicker of surprise crossed Perry Yates’s eyes as she looked at the haphazardly placed items, but she quickly composed herself.
’I don’t even have to think about it. These must have come from a treasure box.’
She stowed these items in her Space Backpack as well.
She scanned her surroundings, and once certain she had cleared the place out, she turned to leave.
But just then, she noticed something odd about the ground.
Under the beam of her flashlight, a spot on the ground was glowing with a faint purple light.
Seeing the light, the first thing Perry Yates thought of was cards.
’That’s right. If a treasure box can spit out something like a snowmobile, why not a card?’
With this thought in mind, Perry Yates hurried over to investigate.
She bent down and brushed away the dirt, revealing a purple, two-star card.
"It really is a card!"
Excitement flashed in Perry Yates’s eyes as she scanned the rest of the floor.
The card had been lying on the ground for who knows how long; its design was so grimy it was hard to make out.
Luckily, the card itself was still intact. A good cleaning was all it needed, and it would be perfectly usable.
After placing the card in her Space Backpack, Perry Yates got down on the ground and began searching inch by inch.
It seemed the cards were useless to the Snow-Ox Clan, or perhaps they were simply unable to use them. Still, they knew players could, and that using them granted powerful abilities.
That’s why they hadn’t simply tossed the cards they found. Instead, they had gathered them all in the cellar, storing them with the other materials from the treasure boxes.
After searching every inch of the cellar and confirming that nothing had been missed, Perry Yates finally left.
Her trip to the cellar had been incredibly fruitful. She found dozens of starred cards, and a countless number of White Cards.
After emerging from the cellar, Perry Yates saw the firewood and empty treasure box containers in the room. Deciding to go all the way, she took them all as well.
After clearing out the room, she saw the sky outside was still dark.
’When the Snow-Ox Clan finds out all their hoarded food has been stolen tomorrow, they’ll surely fly into a rage. They might even take it out on the other players.’
At this thought, Perry Yates turned and headed to where the players were being held captive.
For the players, it wasn’t the cages that imprisoned them, but the bitter cold outside.
To maintain mobility, the clothes everyone wore were durable, but offered little protection from the cold.
In fact, many players had only been "rescued" by the Snow-Ox Clan after they had passed out from the cold and were on the verge of freezing to death.
Very few of the captured players were like Perry Yates, who was fully prepared and possessed a Space Backpack.
Thinking of the clothes she had just collected, Perry Yates returned to the room where the players were held.
The events of the day had been too great a shock for the players; most of them were still awake.
Just as they suspected, getting out of their cages wasn’t the hard part.
But the moment they left this room, they wouldn’t survive more than a few minutes in the cold before freezing to death.
Perry Yates’s sudden appearance drew everyone’s attention.
"Are you here to save us?" one of the players asked excitedly.
"Yes."
Even though a player’s appearance would blur in the memories of others after the game ended, she still wore her Cat Face Mask to be safe.
"I brought some clothes and food."
As she spoke, Perry Yates pulled a large pile of clothes and food from her Space Backpack.
At the sight of the clothes and food, everyone’s excitement surged.
The only reason they were still trapped here was their lack of clothes and food.
More and more cages were opened. Everyone began scrambling to grab the clothes and shoes on the ground and put them on.
Fortunately, the players had some restraint. Even when squabbles broke out, they didn’t make a single sound.
After all, Perry Yates had brought out more than enough clothes and food for everyone.
In addition to the food and clothes, Perry Yates also brought out the snow vehicles she had collected, keeping only a large snowboard for herself.
As for why not the snowmobile—don’t ask. The reason is she doesn’t know how to ride it.
There weren’t many vehicles, so they were first come, first served.
Having done all this, Perry Yates didn’t linger. She turned and walked out of the room. As she passed the youth’s hiding spot, she heard faint breathing from within and called out a warning, "You’d better get out of here quickly, too."
A moment later, a very faint voice came from inside the pillar. "Thanks for the warning."
Perry Yates didn’t reply. Her form vanished on the spot.
Using a combination of Invisibility and Instant Teleportation, Perry Yates left the village at top speed.
Staring out at the endless snowy plains, a hint of uncertainty flickered in Perry Yates’s eyes. She didn’t know where to go next.
But this uncertainty didn’t last long.
’Doesn’t matter where I go. The first thing is to hide.’
Remembering how she’d been captured before, Perry Yates grew extra cautious. ’Something like that can never happen again.’
Her initial instinct was to leave as quickly as possible, to get as far away as she could.
But then a thought occurred to her. Tomorrow morning, when the Snow-Ox Clan discovered something was wrong, they would furiously search everywhere. And as the saying goes, it’s darkest under the lamp.
