Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Glacial Realm 5
Perry Yates shifted her numb body and looked toward the room.
She saw the female of the Snow-Ox Clan inside lull her child to sleep, then grab a Stone Key from a nearby table and walk out.
The sight immediately reminded Perry Yates of her recent conversation.
Perry Yates focused her gaze in the direction the female had gone.
Her vision had already become excellent thanks to the Blueberry Fruit’s enhancement, and now she had X-ray vision on top of that.
To put it simply, there was nothing in the entire village she couldn’t see—only things she chose not to look at.
Perry Yates clearly watched as the female member of the Snow-Ox Clan walked up to a building, opened the door, and went inside.
The building was filled with stacks of various kinds of wood and...
When she got a clear look at what was inside, Perry Yates’s eyes widened in disbelief.
’Holy cow, that’s a lot of treasure boxes.’
Inside the enormous room, a third of the space was taken up by wood, while the remaining two-thirds were piled high with treasure boxes.
However, all the treasure boxes were open, their contents already gone.
She recalled what the young man had told her yesterday: the natives here couldn’t touch treasure boxes. Therefore, these must have been opened by players.
But that raised a question. The survival game had only come to Cerulea half a year ago. While it wasn’t required, players had been spontaneously sharing the games they’d been through and their experiences on the forums.
Perry Yates had carefully read, even studied, all those posts. While some mentioned extreme cold, it was nothing like this, and there was certainly no information about the Snow-Ox Clan.
All things considered, there was only one possibility.
The survival game hadn’t just chosen one planet.
Players from other planets had already been through this game, leaving all these treasure boxes behind.
Reining in her wandering thoughts, Perry Yates went back to watching the female’s every move.
She watched as the woman used the key to open a cellar door. After that, things became indistinct.
Although her X-ray vision could easily penetrate buildings, it struggled with the earth, especially from so far away.
Besides, the cellar seemed pitch-black; she could only make out a few blurry human shapes.
’Looks like if I want to find out what’s going on, I’ll have to go check it out myself tonight.’
’If only I had Night Vision.’
Thanks to her card attributes and abilities, Perry Yates’s vision at night was better than an average person’s, but it was far from true Night Vision.
Thinking of Night Vision, Perry Yates remembered the Bright Mushrooms she’d brought back from the previous game.
The Ascended Bright Mushroom could enhance night vision.
It was just that after the last game, she’d been too busy upgrading her cards to eat it.
’Now that I think about it, I really regret that.’
Soon after entering the cellar, the female member of the Snow-Ox Clan emerged.
She came out holding some food, but the look on her face was ugly. Her eyes were fierce, and she muttered constantly under her breath, as if cursing someone out.
And don’t ask how Perry Yates knew she was cursing—with an expression and a glare like that, what else could it be?
’So what on earth just happened down there?’
Having decided to investigate the cellar that night, Perry Yates began observing the entire village, simultaneously planning an escape route.
Although this place seemed relatively safe for the time being, Perry Yates couldn’t shake a sense of unease.
She hadn’t forgotten that the game had difficulty tiers, with the first ten days being the safest.
Today was only the second day. Who knew what would happen next?
Just then, a piercing scream suddenly cut through the air, making Perry Yates jump.
She looked toward the source of the sound—it came from the room where the players had been held captive.
Using her X-ray vision, Perry Yates saw clearly into the room. A member of the Snow-Ox Clan was glaring viciously at the caged players.
In his hand, he held a player in a death grip.
The player’s eyes were bulging, and blood streamed from his nose and mouth. He was already silent. The scream just now must have been his.
The players in the room were trembling, staring at the member of the Snow-Ox Clan in abject terror.
The Snow-Ox was very pleased by the players’ terrified stares, but he seemed to think it wasn’t enough.
He looked down at the dead player in his hand and gave a cruel smile. The next second, he tossed the body into his mouth and began to chew.
The CRUNCH of bones being crushed by teeth filled the room. Blood mixed with bits of flesh dripped from the corners of the Snow-Ox’s mouth.
Inside the room, some of the players with weaker stomachs fainted dead away.
The rest, while still conscious, were frozen in shock.
On the roof, Perry Yates clenched her fists, her eyes burning with hatred as she watched. But she couldn’t expose herself now.
To avoid seeing any more of the gruesome display, Perry Yates averted her gaze, closed her eyes, and forced herself to rest, conserving her strength for the coming night.
She waited all day, through the evening, and into the dead of night. Only when all the members of the Snow-Ox Clan were asleep did Perry Yates finally make her move.
’First, I need to get the key. I can use Instant Teleportation, but my uses are limited. Best to save a charge if I can.’
She slipped into the room and, just as she’d hoped, easily found the cellar key she had seen during the day sitting on the table.
Looking at it up close, she realized the key was enormous—it was nearly as tall as she was.
After grabbing the key, Perry Yates wasted no time. She used Instant Teleportation to appear inside the room with the cellar.
She hadn’t fully appreciated it when looking from afar with her X-ray vision, but now, standing in the room, she was struck by just how many treasure boxes were piled up here.
Besides the common Wood treasure boxes, there were many made of other materials.
There were iron, copper, and silver ones. There was even a Gold treasure box, which stood out dazzlingly among the stacks of wooden ones.
Tearing her gaze away from the treasure boxes, Perry Yates moved to the cellar entrance.
With some effort, she inserted the massive key into the keyhole and turned it.
With a loud CLICK, the cellar door unlocked.
Just as Perry Yates had expected, the cellar was pitch-black. She couldn’t see a thing.
Fortunately, she had come prepared.
She took a pre-prepared flashlight from her Space Backpack to light the way.
With the flashlight beam cutting through the darkness, Perry Yates followed the stairs down into the cellar.
After walking through a long tunnel, an orange-yellow glow suddenly appeared up ahead.
Seeing the light, Perry Yates quickened her pace.
Soon, she arrived in the main cellar chamber.
The first thing that met her eyes were mountains of various foods and clothes.
