Chapter 34: Location
Violet’s confidence when asking where she should go didn’t earn her any ridicule. It was only natural for someone with an S-Class Talent.
She had every right to be confident.
"Here!" The old man pointed at a location right beside the river, marked with a red circle.
There were roughly ten red circles scattered across different parts of the map.
"South of the river, there are several locations where S-Class External Powers have appeared before. Every single one of them has always been inside one of these red circles. According to my calculations, the next one should appear in this circle, and it should have already manifested sometime last week." A faint smile spread across his face.
"Getting inside won’t be easy. The last time I checked, the entire area was filled with traps. See this thin green line? That’s the only relatively safe route. Besides the S-Class External Power, there’s also a monster there that rewards an enormous amount of SP if you kill it."
Violet narrowed her eyes as she studied the map.
Through it, she could make out every detail. It showed trees, caves, and countless small hills. As long as she could identify those landmarks, she’d be able to find the green path.
The problem was that there were simply too many details. Without bringing the map along, locating that route would be extremely difficult.
Violet remained calm because Enzo had already taken a complete picture of the map. Otherwise, she would probably have had to memorize every detail with a serious expression.
"Are there any other places like this?" Violet asked.
"There are certainly other places hiding valuable treasures, but the only confirmed location hiding an S-Class item is this one," the old man replied. "I’m sure you wouldn’t waste your time chasing anything less right now, so there’s no need to talk about the others."
"You’re right." Violet nodded.
She wouldn’t bother. No matter how difficult it was, an S-Class item was incomparably more valuable, even if it was only an External Power.
"Well then, thank you for the information... and for the drinks." Violet stood up, vaulted over the bar counter, and walked away without another word.
"Miss, you don’t want to study it a little longer? Have you already memorized it?" the old man asked in surprise. Most people would spend over an hour staring at the map just to remember every detail.
"No need." Violet answered briefly as she stepped out of the bar. A moment later, she frowned once again.
Naturally, it was because of Enzo.
This time, he had spotted another man watching her from a different rooftop. The rooftop was surrounded by high walls with narrow openings that allowed someone to look outside.
The man looked to be in his thirties and wore a pair of sunglasses.
Enzo immediately realized he was monitoring Violet. The man was on a video call, talking while pointing his phone’s camera directly at her.
’This one is probably stronger,’ he thought.
He was convinced this man also belonged to the Night Valley Organization.
Organizations usually divided territories among themselves, and Sanctuary 1 clearly fell under Night Valley’s control.
In other words, anything valuable that appeared in Sanctuary 1 would become Night Valley’s target. Other organizations generally wouldn’t interfere unless the prize was simply too tempting.
After thinking for a moment, Enzo decided not to ignore him.
Violet needed to intimidate everyone. Otherwise, people would continue to underestimate her.
Violet’s gaze immediately locked onto the rooftop.
She looked directly at the tiny opening where the man with the sunglasses was filming from.
Through his phone, he instantly saw Violet staring straight at him.
The sudden eye contact startled him so badly that he almost lost his balance.
At that very moment, Violet activated her Talent and unleashed her new skill—
Instant Death.
If the man had been weak, he would have died on the spot.
Unfortunately for her, he wasn’t.
Instead, his legs gave way, and he collapsed onto the floor, even more horrified than before.
"What... what is this?" he blurted out instinctively.
He felt an invisible force seize him. It was as though his very life spirit was being ripped out of his body, forcing him to pour all of his strength into resisting it. Every instinct screamed that if his life spirit was completely pulled away...
...he would die.
The bystanders didn’t experience that terrifying sensation, but they could tell something had happened.
They wondered why Violet had activated her Talent again.
Before anyone could discuss it, Violet hurled her crimson battle axe once more.
It spun through the air like a giant wheel.
BANG!
The wall surrounding the rooftop exploded apart.
The man in sunglasses immediately summoned a long spear to block the attack.
Clang!
The axe crashed against the spear.
By then, the man had already leaped backward.
To everyone’s shock, a pair of eagle wings covered in black feathers suddenly burst from his back.
With those wings, he took to the air and shot into the distance.
Violet could only watch him leave, her brows slightly knitted together.
Her opponent could fly.
A pair of wings alone was usually considered only an A-Class Talent. While it granted little advantage beyond flight and wasn’t particularly powerful in combat, it was still an ability countless people desired.
If someone possessed both wings and a combat-oriented Talent...
...they would become a truly terrifying opponent.
"So there really was someone up there. Was he another Night Valley stalker?" someone wondered aloud.
"Does anyone know who that guy was?"
"I do. He’s Wyatt Ramos, a casino boss from Z City. I had no idea he was an Awakener."
"He is an Awakener, but he stopped leveling after reaching Level 18. He quit because he was traumatized after encountering an Eagle Monster that nearly devoured him alive."
"..."
Meanwhile, Violet recalled her axe from afar.
The spectators watched in amazement as the weapon flew back into her hand on its own.
After retrieving it, she walked toward Paul Walton, who had suddenly appeared nearby.
"Mr. Paul," she said calmly, "I’d like to know why people keep spying on me. As the Sanctuary’s administrator, can’t you stop something like this?"
