Chapter 151: Chapter 151 When The Truth Comes Knocking
Author
Alpha Zack stood frozen in place, his palms ice-cold.
The weight of Alpha Dominic’s threat hung in the air like a death sentence. His pack’s future, everything he’d worked for, could disappear with one word from the Alpha King.
After a long moment, his eyes narrowed with grim determination. He pulled out his phone and dialed. "Selina, are you home? I’m coming over. We need to talk."
His voice was flat, emotionless.
--
Selina had been anxious ever since the wedding.
Every day felt like walking on eggshells, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
After that disaster of a ceremony, she’d been terrified that Alpha Zack would leave her. But then again, they were married now. How could he just walk away so easily?
[The legal paperwork had to count for something, right? People didn’t just throw away marriages over one bad day.]
Still, he hadn’t mentioned moving in together yet, which left her uneasy.
Even with a marriage certificate, she couldn’t fully read what was going on in his mind.
She’d been checking her phone obsessively, analyzing every text message for hidden meanings, every delayed response as a sign he was pulling away.
When that achingly familiar figure finally stepped through her door, her breath caught. "Alpha Zack!"
Relief flooded through her.
[ He was here. He’d come to see her. Everything was going to be okay.]
She quickly masked her worry with a practiced, charming smile. "Did you finish setting up the house? Are we ready to move in together?"
Alpha Zack’s eyes darkened. He hesitated.
The pause stretched too long. Something cold settled in Selina’s stomach.
Selina avoided his unsettling gaze and looped her arm through his playfully. "Zack, I know I embarrassed you at the wedding."
She pressed closer to him, desperately trying to recapture their old intimacy. "But I was innocent. Those people had nothing to do with me. How could I ever hurt anyone? You believe me, don’t you? We can make this work. I promise."
Her voice was getting higher, more frantic. She could feel him slipping away and didn’t know how to stop it.
She softened her voice, her tone turning pleading. "Before the wedding, you promised we’d go on a honeymoon together..."
"Selina." Alpha Zack cut her off, his voice firm. If he didn’t stop her now, he’d lose his nerve. "Let’s get divorced."
The words hit her like a physical blow.
Selina froze as if her voice had been stolen. She stood perfectly still, her eyes rapidly filling with tears.
[This couldn’t be happening. Not after everything she’d sacrificed, everything she’d endured.]
When Alpha Zack repeated himself—"Selina, we need to get divorced"—the tears finally spilled over.
"No." The word came out as barely a whisper.
"I realize now that we rushed into this marriage," he continued quietly. "When you were younger, I thought I was protecting you. Once you grew up, I mistook that protective instinct for love."
"To minimize the damage to both of us, we should divorce. You’ll find someone who can love you the way you deserve."
It was a pretty speech. Too bad it was complete bullshit, and they both knew it.
A tear slid down Selina’s cheek. She bit her lip hard to keep from sobbing aloud. "Why? Zack, how could you not love me?"
Her voice cracked on the last word.
"Don’t you remember? You celebrated every birthday with me. Valentine’s Day. Christmas. New Year’s. You were always there."
She was grasping at straws now, throwing out every memory she could think of.
"You were worried I’d be lonely when I studied abroad. You drove through blizzards just to see me. We used to talk for hours. Alpha Zack, have you really forgotten all of that?"
But what she didn’t understand was that a man who’d found his true obsession wouldn’t be swayed by old memories.
Alpha Zack pressed his lips into a thin line and spoke the two words she dreaded most. "I’m sorry."
Selina’s cries grew louder. Her carefully maintained composure finally cracked completely. She jabbed a finger toward him, her voice breaking. "Zack, did you fall in love with Elara?"
"Did you?"
The accusation hung in the air between them like a loaded weapon.
Alpha Zack remained silent.
That silence shattered her completely. "You did! You fell in love with her!"
"All these excuses—you just want to divorce me for her, don’t you?"
She was spiraling now, her voice getting shriller with each word.
She shook her head violently, repeating over and over, "I won’t divorce you. I don’t care what you say!"
"Zack, as long as I don’t agree, you can’t leave me even if you want to! I’ll drag this out forever. You have no right to betray me!"
"No right."
Whatever guilt Alpha Zack had felt evaporated in the face of her hysterical screaming. This wasn’t the gentle girl he’d thought he was protecting anymore.
His gaze turned icy. "Betray you?"
"What about when you lied to me? What about when you let me believe something that was never true? Didn’t you call that deception?"
"Selina, for the sake of everything we’ve shared, let’s not make this uglier than it has to be."
His voice dropped into something colder, more calculated. The businessman in him was taking over.
"Your father’s company—without my pack’s support, Alpha King would’ve crushed it by now."
The words hit her like ice water. This wasn’t about love or protection anymore. This was about power, territory, and pack politics.
Selina stared at him in disbelief. "You’re threatening me?"
"You’re actually threatening me for her!"
"It’s not a threat. It’s a reminder." Alpha Zack’s tone was flat, emotionless. "I’m giving you a few days to think it over. After that, we’re going to the courthouse."
Without waiting for a response, he turned and left.
The moment the door closed behind him, Selina’s carefully controlled mask finally cracked completely.
She exploded.
She tore through the room like a hurricane, smashing everything within reach.
Her grandmother’s antique vases, wedding gifts still in their boxes, picture frames holding memories of a life that was apparently built on lies.
The household staff cowered in the hallways, too terrified to approach their usually composed young mistress.
