Chapter 150: Chapter 150 Honey, Let’s Go!
Elara
I raised an eyebrow, my expression perfectly neutral.
My complete lack of reaction seemed to throw him off balance.
"Why did you lie? You were the girl from the warehouse that day. It was you."
His eyes were wild, desperate. Like he’d just solved some great mystery that would magically fix everything.
"Elara, I made a mistake. All this time, I thought I’d saved Selina."
"And you play the violin. Why didn’t you tell me any of this?"
Each word came out faster, more frantic. He was spiraling.
His hand shot out and grabbed my arm roughly. "Why?"
I jerked backward, shaking him off like he was toxic waste. "Don’t touch me!"
"Zack, what exactly are you trying to accomplish here?"
"So what if you got the wrong girl? So what if I play the violin? Does any of that actually change anything?"
I took a step back, putting more distance between us. My voice turned to ice.
I let out a laugh that could cut glass. "You don’t honestly think that if you’d known it was me that day, you would’ve loved me, do you?"
His face crumpled like I’d slapped him.
"Drop the tragic romantic hero bullshit, Zack. You made your choice when you picked Selina, when you moved in together, when you built a whole life with her. Fine. If you’d just stayed there, we wouldn’t have a problem."
"But you kept pursuing me while playing the faithful boyfriend. Now you’re married, I’m married, and you still won’t leave me alone. Who exactly do you think you’re being fair to?"
My voice dropped to arctic temperatures. "There are eight billion people in this world. Nobody is irreplaceable. And I stopped loving you a long time ago."
Zack’s face twisted with something between rage and desperation.
My complete indifference was like a knife to his ego.
Zack lunged forward again, gripping my wrist with enough force to leave marks. "Elara, I know I screwed up. I called off the wedding. I can get divorced. You can get divorced too, can’t you?"
"She lied to me! I was deceived!"
His voice cracked. "I was wrong. Let’s try again. Please?"
I stared at his face with complete detachment. "Zack, we were never actually in a relationship. There’s nothing to ’try again.’"
"You want a divorce? Fine. Get one. But I’m not divorcing Dominic."
"Why not?" He was desperate now, demanding an answer.
I tried to pull my hand back, but his grip was iron. My eyes narrowed dangerously. "Because the person I love now is my husband. Dominic."
Zack’s face drained of all color. He still refused to accept reality. "Elara, you’re lying. You’re just still angry at me, right?"
His voice turned almost pleading. "I know you haven’t forgiven me yet. But how could you possibly love an Alpha who —"
A sleek purple Bugatti glided up to the curb like something out of a movie.
Dominic stepped out and moved behind me in two strides, gently pulling me out of Zack’s grip and into his arms.
His Alpha presence rolled off him in waves, making nearby humans unconsciously step back. The air itself seemed to thicken with his dominance.
His arm slid around my waist possessively, his expensive watch catching the afternoon light.
Everything about his posture screamed ’mine.’
He raised an eyebrow, his Alpha authority making his voice carry deadly weight. "Alpha Zack. Playing the role of home wrecker now?"
His smile didn’t reach his eyes. "Sorry, but that’s my Luna’s hand you’re holding."
Dominic’s lips curved pleasantly, but his dark eyes flashed with the dangerous gold of his wolf. "Touch her again, and my pack will be having a discussion about territorial boundaries. And trust me, you don’t want that conversation."
Every accusation Zack had been ready to hurl died in his throat. Even as an Alpha himself, he could feel the raw power radiating from the Alpha King. His own wolf instinctively wanted to submit.
He slowly released me and shoved his hands into his pockets.
Even though Zack was a strong Alpha in his own right, somehow standing next to the Alpha King made him look like a mere Beta trying to play in the big leagues.
I didn’t want to waste another second on this pathetic display. "Honey, let’s go."
Dominic’s gaze softened when he looked at me. "Of course."
Then he paused, as if remembering something.
Before getting into the car, he leaned against the door and turned back to Zack. His smile widened. "Oh, Zack. I almost forgot to mention. About those federal resource grants your pack has been petitioning for? Consider them... indefinitely under review. Funny how budget priorities shift when someone disrespects my Luna."
He slid into the driver’s seat and shut the door with a decisive click.
The Bugatti’s engine purred to life like a satisfied cat, and we pulled away smoothly.
