Chapter 125: Chapter 125 Fishing for Secrets

"Selina, I saw your fiancé Alpha Zack yesterday!" Selina’s friend Miki burst into the coffee shop like she had the scoop of the century.
"And Alpha King was there too!" she added, practically vibrating with excitement.
Selina nearly choked on her latte. She set down her cup and studied Miki’s expression. "What exactly happened yesterday?"
"Well, you know how Alpha King is having his mating ceremony soon, right? The whole packs have been buzzing about it.
Everyone’s been curious about his Luna. Yesterday, the boys’ club had one of their exclusive gatherings, and Alpha King brought Luna Wolfe with him."
"I heard Alpha Zack tried to go over and say hello."
Selina’s stomach dropped. She immediately thought about how Alpha Zack had suddenly shown up at her place last night with late-night treats.
"And then what happened?" Selina leaned forward, her voice sharp with urgency.
Miki blinked, caught off guard by the intensity. "Whoa, what’s with the interrogation?"
"Oh, about the greeting... apparently they didn’t actually meet. My source said Alpha Zack chickened out or something. That’s just what I heard through the grapevine."
Selina’s wolf paced anxiously inside her. She desperately needed to know if Alpha Zack had discovered that Elara’s mate was Alpha King .
With less than a week until their mating ceremony, she couldn’t afford any surprises.
Though they had originally planned to hit the boutiques downtown that afternoon, Selina hastily grabbed her purse. "Miki, you’ll have to do retail therapy without me. Something’s come up."
She drove straight to Zack’s office, her knuckles white on the steering wheel.
Alpha Zack had been in the middle of meeting with clients when his secretary informed him of Selina’s arrival.
He frowned slightly.
"Have her wait in my office," he instructed, though something felt off about this surprise visit.
Selina paced anxiously around the office, her scent of distress and worry filling the space.
An hour later, Alpha Zack pushed open the door, obvious irritation on his face.
"Selina, haven’t I told you not to drop by unannounced?" His dominance leaked into his voice unconsciously, making Selina’s wolf want to cower and submit.
Sensing he’d been too harsh, Alpha Zack reined in his Alpha aura and explained more patiently, "Things are hectic right now. Our mating ceremony is in a week, and I’ll be taking time off afterward. I need to clear my plate beforehand."
Selina’s eyes darted nervously as she asked, "I heard you ran into some drama with Alpha King yesterday. Was it serious?"
"That?" Zack’s gaze was indifferent. "There was no drama. We just don’t see eye to eye. Don’t worry about it."
"I heard his Luna was there too. Did you see her?" Selina asked, her palms sweating as she carefully watched Zack’s expression, desperate not to miss any reaction.
Zack’s expression turned peculiar. His wolf seemed to recall that scent from yesterday, though he couldn’t place why Selina seemed so concerned. "You’re awfully interested in his Luna, Selina."
"Do you know her?" he probed.
"N-no, of course not!" Selina stammered. "Zack, how would I possibly know her? I was just making conversation."
But her voice pitched higher, the way it always did when she was lying.
"Who his Luna is doesn’t matter. It has nothing to do with us," he said dismissively.
He adjusted his tone, trying to make his presence more soothing. "It’s almost quitting time. How about I take you to that new steakhouse you mentioned?"
Every mention of Alpha King made his wolf restless, like an itch he couldn’t scratch.
Selina forced a smile. "That sounds nice."
But inside, her mind was already working overtime, planning her next move.
Elara
Lately, I had been preparing for my mating ceremony with Dominic.
Though "preparing" mostly meant letting Dominic handle all the heavy lifting while I tagged along to nod at venues and arrangements.
It worked perfectly for me since I’d rather spend my free time with Grandma during her recovery.
As visiting hours ended and I walked to the parking lot, I spotted Selina standing by my car.
The woman was decked out in white like some kind of wannabe angel, looking at me with arrogant disdain. "We need to talk."
I coldly opened my car door. "I don’t think we have anything to discuss."
"Elara!" Selina threw a full-blown tantrum, actually stomping her foot like a toddler, blocking the door. "What’s wrong? Are you chicken?"
"I know about your fake marriage to that Alpha King. But I’m warning you to back off from Zack!" Her voice grew shriller. "You deliberately showed up where Zack was last night, didn’t you?"
I looked at Selina like she’d completely lost her marbles. "Why would I do that on purpose? What you think is a prize, I now see as trash."
Then it hit me, and I couldn’t help but smirk. "You seem scared out of your mind about Zack finding out about my marriage to Dominic."
"I’m not!" Selina practically shrieked. "Why would I be scared?"
But the more she protested, the more pathetic she sounded.
"Good," I said with my sweetest fake smile. "Did you know your precious Zack sent me an invitation?"
"Don’t worry, my mate and I will be there with bells on."
With that, I slid into my car and gunned the engine.
[Selina wanted a war? Fine by me.]
