Chapter 123: Chapter 123 Conflicted Hearts

For a moment, they just stared at each other, both breathing hard. Then reality seemed to hit Elara all at once.
Elara pushed Alpha Dominic away, her voice carrying a sensuality she wasn’t even aware of. "What else? Let’s forget what just happened!"
"Hmm," Alpha Dominic stepped back, sliding one hand into his pocket, his lips curling into a smile. "So Luna Wolfe uses me and tosses me aside."
Elara turned her face away, offering no defense.
She had no excuse to offer anyway.
His eyes deepened slightly, his voice losing its playful edge. "Are you that afraid of Zack finding out?"
"I’m not afraid," Elara answered without hesitation.
"I’m just not ready to go public yet. His wedding is coming soon, and at that wedding, I’ll be giving him a surprise he’ll never forget."
Alpha Zack’s wedding was less than a week away now.
Alpha Dominic remained silent, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully. Despite her words, he couldn’t shake the feeling that she still harbored feelings for Zack.
His wolf growled possessively inside him, disliking the thought of her caring for another male.

After leaving the terrace, Alpha Zack returned to his private room but had lost all interest in continuing the night’s festivities.
The scent from earlier still lingered in his nostrils—something hauntingly familiar yet frustratingly elusive. He rubbed his temples, trying to shake off the unsettling feeling that gnawed at him.
He hooked his arm through his jacket. "I’m heading out. You all enjoy yourselves."
"Zack’s running home to his bride-to-be," one of his friends teased with a knowing grin.
Alpha Zack’s jaw tightened imperceptibly. The joke hit closer to home than he cared to admit. He forced a laugh, but it sounded hollow even to his own ears.
Alpha Zack’s eyes flickered slightly, suddenly feeling guilty about his actions toward Selina.
After leaving the private room, he deliberately called Selina. "Are you asleep yet?"
Selina sounded excited to receive his call. "Zack, I’m still up!"
Her voice was bright, almost breathless with surprise. It made his chest tighten with an emotion he couldn’t quite name.
"Good. I’m bringing you some late-night treats. Wait for me. I’ll be at your place in an hour."
Selina twisted the bedsheets between her fingers, her cheeks flushing. "Alright, I’ll wait for you."
After hanging up, she immediately rushed to her vanity mirror, checking her reflection with nervous excitement.
Her heart hammered against her ribs as she smoothed down her hair and applied a touch of lip gloss.
Perhaps her earlier doubts were just her overthinking things.
After their wedding, she was confident this man would only have eyes for her. Whether it was Elara or any other woman, they were merely temporary distractions in his life.

Nancy went to the tax office today to meet with a tax official.
Someone from her accounting team had upset the official, so Nancy had to fix things herself.
Her accountant had argued with the official about some tax rules. Now the guy was mad and wanted to check all their company records. Nancy needed to calm him down fast.
They agreed to meet at 3:30, but her car broke down on the way there.
Nancy’s car started making weird noises. Then the engine just died. Steam came out from under the hood and all the warning lights turned on.
Nancy didn’t know what was wrong with the car. She knew nothing about cars.
She looked at all the flashing lights on her dashboard. She had no idea what any of them meant. Her mechanic was too far away to help.
All she could do was pull over, turn on her emergency lights, and call for help.
Nancy pulled to the side of the road. Her hands shook as she tried to find a tow truck number on her phone. Cars kept speeding past her.
But tow trucks take time to arrive. The trip to the repair shop would take at least an hour.
She checked her watch. It was 3:25 PM. Even if the tow truck came right now, she’d be two hours late. Her heart dropped.
After a two-hour delay, the tax official would be gone.
And he’d be even angrier at her company. This simple problem could turn into a huge mess.
Just as she was about to make another call, a sleek black car stopped behind hers.
Nancy looked in her mirror. She saw an expensive black car pull up behind her. It looked like one of those luxury cars she only saw in movies.
Nancy thought the license plate looked familiar.
The numbers on the plate looked like ones she’d seen before.
Wait, wasn’t that...?
