Chapter 279: The Forge Has Teeth
Hajin entered the forge worker lane against a stream of people carrying five wounded workers toward the clinic route.
Two covered bodies followed on a tool cart, leaving blood across the handles workers used to keep it moving.
Doran lay beneath the first cover, the same bellows worker who had matched Hajin through Ferra’s early production shift.
Kessa, a forge gate guard, occupied the second after dying beside the alarm rope she had managed to pull.
Soot covered Doran’s palms, but the emergency valve beside his station stood closed, preserving the furnace from an uncontrolled rupture.
Kessa’s blood marked the rope beside three fresh pulls, proving her warning had cleared the ordinary crews before Ferra sealed the yard.
[ New Sixth Region casualties ]
[ Doran and Kessa: deceased ]
[ New serious injuries: 5 ]
"Thirty-six entered through the lower worker gate," a wounded mason said, gripping one opened shoulder, "Ferra closed every inner door behind them."
Hajin sent the five serious cases onward under separate Aria markers, confirming each transfer remained distinct from the dead.
None could return to the battle, though their pulses stayed stable beneath the clinic workers’ pressure seals.
Hajin continued through the evacuation line while one Ring formed around his right forearm, keeping Aegis over the departing workers.
The forge yard had emptied except for Ferra plus thirty-six infiltrators standing inside channels cut across the work floor.
Ferra had moved every ordinary worker beyond the copper line when Kessa’s warning reached the inner control station.
The prepared floor had cost one sealed batch of anomaly metal, hidden beneath routes an invading crew would mistake for open ground.
Twenty-six wore metal armor beneath worker coats, while ten carried ceramic knives plus leather guards designed to ignore magnetic wards.
The armored group surrounded the furnace basin, striking its supports while the lighter fighters searched for a route into the coal store.
Ferra stood at the anvil with both hands on separate control bars, waiting until Hajin crossed the marked safe path.
"You took your time," she said, checking his feet against the copper line, "stay outside the black channels unless you want new bones."
"Loccy needed the western wall," Hajin replied, placing Aegis across the worker exit, "are those channels ready or decorative?"
Ferra pulled both bars downward, sending copper light through anomaly-metal strips buried beneath the floor.
Every metal weapon struck the nearest black channel, dragging twenty-six armored infiltrators down with enough force to bend their joints.
Breastplates locked against the floor while swords turned inside gauntlets, pinning arms before another furnace support could break.
The ten lighter fighters remained free beyond the magnetic path, cutting through a side screen toward the coal-store drain.
"Drop every spell and stay down," Ferra ordered, keeping both control bars locked, "the floor releases after the last hostile circuit stops."
Eight pinned fighters flattened their hands against the channels, letting their active reinforcement fade beneath Aria’s markers.
The other eighteen forced mana into their trapped armor, trying to overload the anomaly strips before the furnace pressure climbed.
One released a fire line toward Ferra’s face, although Hajin caught it with Aegis before it crossed the anvil.
Ferra opened the furnace’s first vent beneath ten committed attackers, directing white heat through their locked breastplates.
The anomaly channels held them against the release until every hostile circuit inside that section stopped.
Behind them, ceramic blades broke the coal-store drain screen while the first vent hid the passage beneath white glare.
Hajin held Aegis over the departing patients plus the furnace brace, since abandoning either position would expose the worker line.

[ Summon Ferra has evolved into 1 Wing ]

[ Ferra Wing Progress: 0 / 300,000 EXP ]
Forge-light opened behind Ferra instead of feathers, forming one Wing from rotating rings plus suspended hammers, tongs, and gauges.
Every floating tool turned toward the furnace as the new Wing widened across the control side of the yard.
Ferra looked over one shoulder, studying the tools for less than a second before pointing them toward the remaining attackers.
"The little system finally gave me assistants," she said, returning both hands to the bars, "they already follow instructions better than apprentices."
The eight pinned fighters who had stopped feeding mana remained untouched beneath the cooling channels.
Ferra’s routing treated inactive reinforcement as surrender, separating those eight circuits from every furnace release that followed.
Another attacker renewed his reinforcement instead, pulling seven others into the same overload attempt around the second vent.
Floating tongs closed three pressure valves while two hammers struck separate release catches at Ferra’s signal.
White furnace fire entered the active armor from below, following only the metal still carrying hostile mana into the floor.
All eight circuits opened together, killing the attackers who continued forcing power through their trapped equipment.
The Wing held the vent pattern after Ferra released one bar, allowing her to close the furnace without crossing the fire.

[ Ferra Wing Progress: 24,000 / 300,000 EXP ]
[ Active Flint siege force: 1,146 ]
The magnetic channels released the eight surrendered fighters after militia reached the safe copper path with binding poles.
Each prisoner lowered weapons outside the yard before treatment workers marked burns plus pressure injuries for custody transfer.
Hajin checked the coal-store drain through Divine Eyes, finding ten retreat signatures rejoining Flint markers beyond the worker terraces.
They remained inside the active siege count, leaving no unrecorded loss between the forge and Corven’s outer lines.
Ferra raised one control bar, but the floor answered with one weak copper pulse before the anomaly strips turned black.
[ Anomaly-metal channel stock: consumed ]
A fracture crossed the furnace lining beside the second vent, spilling heat into its outer brace.
Hajin moved Aegis over the cracked section while Ferra shut every remaining valve with her floating tools.
"That lining will not survive another battle vent," she said, holding one ring of forge-light around the fracture, "ordinary production stops until I replace it."
Her first Wing remained open, though several tools shook after holding the emergency seal against the furnace pressure.
The new Wing could maintain damaged valves, but it restored neither the consumed channels nor the fractured furnace lining.
A clinic horn sounded again beyond the worker terraces, followed by the fire-canister warning from Chapter 277’s eastern approach.
Hajin left Ferra beside the consumed channels, taking the cleared worker lane toward Vella’s treatment line.
