Chapter 275: Retreat With Everyone
The Zone drove another road section against Aegis before Vella finished reaching the eight defenders wounded beside Dalen.
Hajin held all three Rings around his right forearm, keeping the damaged Chain extended across the broken pass behind him.
Ash-white mana caught every falling piece before it settled, returning the same terrain toward the rescue line from another angle.
Vella placed golden seals over the new wounds while three earlier patients remained connected to Hajin’s lower barrier.
"Fifteen living patients," she said, checking each marker without lifting her hands, "all can move if your lower layer stays beneath them."
Hans opened the casualty roll beside Dalen, adding his name beneath the nine people killed on the orchard bank.
Kenny remained under a separate cover beyond Ressa, leaving ten Sixth bodies plus one Flint body inside the barrier.
"Four clinic workers, one defender still standing, Juna, and me," Hans said, counting everyone able to carry, "we cannot lift twenty-six people."
"You will not carry them," Hajin replied, widening the lower Aegis plane beneath every frame, "strap the living down and cover the bodies."
The barrier flattened into a transport bed across the bank, keeping separate raised sections beneath each injured person.
Juna moved the four stable frames toward its center while the clinic workers secured eight new patients around them.
Vella stayed between the three weakest survivors, feeding their seals as Hajin transferred each channel into the moving plane.
Hans placed Ressa plus Dalen behind the patients, then kept Kenny beneath his separate cover near the rear edge.
The remaining bodies followed under shelter cloths, their registry armbands left visible for Lana’s later identification.
Dreth’s Zone pulled the broken shoulder upward while they worked, closing the open path toward the western ridge piece by piece.
"Move now," Hajin said, lifting the transport bed above the first returning slab, "Juna, keep everyone inside my outer barrier."
"I can clear the ridge ahead," she replied, keeping all three Wings closed beside the patients, "but the Zone will follow your surface."
"Then stay where you can cut anything that gets through," he said, turning toward the pass, "nobody leaves the barrier to chase."
The transport bed crossed the northern furrow while Hajin walked behind it, forcing Aegis through the terrain circulation.
Every step pulled against Dreth’s anchors, causing road sections to gather around the barrier instead of falling past it.
The Chain remained in Hajin’s right hand as he used its free length to break ribs before they reached Vella.
Dreth advanced through the suspended ash above the fracture, his opened chest plate held together by Zone lines.
The seventy-two fit fighters followed behind mantlets without entering the broken shoulder where Eclipse Lash had ended their forward ranks.
Twenty-three wounded vanguard members remained above the rear socket, alive but unable to lift weapons or join the movement.
"Leave the frames and withdraw alone," Dreth ordered, directing his spear through the Zone, "I will allow your carriers across the ridge."
Hajin pushed the transport bed another pace while a compressed ash blade formed along the commander’s spear.
"You fired on their surrender," he replied, placing the outer Aegis curve between Dreth and the frames, "your permission means nothing here."
Dreth released the blade toward the bed instead of Hajin, forcing him to turn the barrier across its full path.
Ash-white force spread over Aegis, driving Hajin backward while the transport plane continued toward the ridge behind him.
The Zone tried entering through every contact point, using the barrier’s own curve to reach its unprotected lower edge.
Aria marked one broken anchor caught inside the fracture, where Eclipse Lash had separated its control rib from the buried network.
"That fragment still carries the Zone’s complete return circuit," she said, outlining its pulsing center, "remove it before the network reclaims it."
Hajin wrapped the Chain around the exposed rib while maintaining Aegis with all three Rings.
Dreth drove another ash blade toward the same point, understanding what Hajin had found before the fragment came loose.
Divine Sever entered the anchor below its active center, cutting the buried connection without dispersing the circulation inside.
The fragment tore free as Dreth’s blade reached it, following the Chain into Hajin’s left hand behind Aegis.
Cold ash-white mana pressed against his palm, trying to reconnect through the road beneath his feet.
Hajin stored the fragment inside his inventory before another pulse could leave it, removing one branch from the Zone.

The missing branch dropped three suspended ribs, opening enough space for the transport bed to reach the ridge approach.
Juna guided its front edge onto stable ground while Hans plus the standing defender kept every strap away from the barrier joints.
Vella’s first three patient markers turned amber together, though none left the serious-treatment category recorded earlier.
Hajin crossed after the bed while keeping Aegis toward Dreth, refusing the Zone another line through the clinic frames.
The boundary ended halfway up the ridge, where ash-white mana stopped returning terrain toward the commander’s socket.
Broken road sections fell behind Hajin after leaving its control, filling the approach without reaching anyone under his barrier.
Dreth halted at the Zone edge, bleeding through the plate seam while the rear vanguard gathered around him.
"Second and fourth files pursue," he ordered, pointing his spear toward the transport bed, "take the wounded before they reach the loop."
No file crossed the shoulder Hajin had removed, leaving seventy-two fit soldiers behind their mantlets despite the order.
Several looked toward the sixty-one bodies below, while others kept their shields facing the Chain in Hajin’s hand.
Dreth repeated the signal through his socket, but the front shields remained planted above the fracture.
He lowered his spear after the second refusal, turning the Zone toward the road rather than spending another formation.
Rear crews dragged all twenty-three disabled fighters away from the unstable shoulder, keeping them alive but outside the next march.
Hajin maintained Aegis until the transport bed entered the western loop beyond the ridge marker.
Only then did he let the third Ring fade, returning the damaged Chain from his right hand to inventory.
Hans checked every strap before directing the clinic workers toward town, keeping the dead on the same moving barrier behind them.
[ Retreat count verified ]
[ Living patients recovered: 15 ]
[ Sixth Region dead recovered: 10 ]
[ Separate Flint dead recovered: 1 ]
Behind the ridge, Dreth’s seventy-two remaining fighters reset their mantlets around the pass without following.
The ash-white Zone held the southern road while the entire rescue line continued toward the clinic.
