Hajin stayed beside the empty ravine, helping Jonas recover Ferra’s barrier plates from Cassie’s broken banks.

The first guild horses arrived after the bodies reached the irrigation cut, pulling a survey wagon behind Yenna’s party.

Mila sat beside the driver with Marrick’s sealed packet open across her notebook, proving the courier had reached them first.

Yenna left the wagon before it stopped, followed by two senior party members plus three guild personnel carrying Gate instruments.

Orin, her pathfinder, brought six survey rods toward the ravine while Mara inspected the retreat road before approaching Hajin.

Neither senior adventurer asked about the missing portal until the junior guild clerk reached its recorded position.

"The coordinates put the Gate here," he said, moving the instrument across the former threshold, "there should be spatial residue even after core extraction."

"Nobody extracted its core," Hajin replied, setting the recovered plate beside Jonas, "the Gate disappeared after it threw us outside."

The clerk looked toward Yenna for permission to reject that answer, but she pointed him back toward the instruments.

"Test the whole ravine before deciding what cannot happen," she said, taking the outside witness roll from Mila, "we arrived after the report."

Orin drove one survey rod into each side of the empty site, checking the space between them for distortion.

"What about Dreth’s people?" Yenna asked, looking toward the southern rise where both horses had vanished.

"We stopped them at the salt-road junction," Mara replied, removing a folded field statement from her coat, "they answered under the emergency Gate statute before continuing east."

Both observers reported the exterior blast, five forced ejections, and the portal’s disappearance from the southern rise.
