Chapter 259: Vella’s Dark Mercy

"Do not cut those tethers," Vella said, leaving the cleared cart while violet mana climbed both wrists, "I need the path they are using."

Golden threads remained stretched from her left hand toward all six wounded militia, following their frames along the irrigation cut.

The apex dragged itself against the portal while purple roots repaired the throat Loccy had opened.

Four winged survivors climbed from Juna’s fallen ridge behind it, pulling damaged bodies toward the clinic route again.

Juna lowered her claws without releasing any Wings, keeping the survivors inside Vella’s chosen angle.

Hajin shifted Aegis across the portal mouth, stopping the apex from leaving while its corruption lines remained exposed.

"How much of the network can you reach from here?" he asked, watching Vella approach the nearest root.

"Whatever is still sharing tissue with this one," she replied, placing two fingers against the pulsing growth, "keep it attached until I remove the wrong bodies."

The answer sounded backward until violet mana disappeared beneath the root covering.

Divine Eye caught her power entering the existing corruption, following its branches without crossing into the surrounding road.

Vella moved through the network by touch, reading every living path through the foreign tissue already connecting them.

One golden thread weakened as the frames reached the next shelter, forcing her left hand higher to maintain its distance.

"The patient with the folded shield has opened again," she said, keeping her right fingers inside the root, "press beneath his ribs."

Hans reached the frame before Hajin could leave Aegis, placing his palm where her golden line gathered.

"He is covered," Hans said, walking beside the carriers, "finish whatever keeps rebuilding that thing."

Purple branches spread across Hajin’s sight as Aria translated what Vella felt through their contract.

Two ended beneath the fallen ridge, entering flyers whose broken wings had stopped pushing toward the road.

"Those are alive, but they are done attacking," Vella said, closing her fingers around both paths, "they leave the circuit first."

Violet cuts passed through the foreign growths near their cores, separating the corruption without touching either natural pulse.

Both bodies stopped crawling as the purple light drained from them, leaving their damaged wings folded beneath stone.

Another branch traveled through the portal toward a nest holding smaller bodies with no corruption inside their cores.

The circuit had grown around their limbs without converting them, using the nest as another brace for the mother’s route.

Vella severed that branch near its outer growth, causing ordinary Gate mana to disappear from Aria’s hostile map.

"The rest are feeding the attack," she said, finding every remaining pulse aimed toward the apex or road, "move Juna behind your barrier."

Hajin widened Aegis without arguing, placing its edge between Vella and the four flyers climbing toward them.

The first survivor struck the barrier while her violet line reached its corruption-covered chest.

Its core contracted around the foreign root, then burst before the creature could pull its claws free.

Hajin read the notice while Vella entered the next attacker through the same connected branch.

She was not an Active Summon, so the system treated every lethal pulse crossing their two-way contract as his equipped mana.

No counter appeared for Vella, leaving only Hajin’s Ring progression waiting beneath the network.

The other three flyers reached Aegis together, pressing corrupted shoulders against the surface while searching for the healing line beyond it.

Vella opened her right hand, sending violet mana through every hostile connection she had left intact.

Purple cores ruptured beneath the fallen ridge before the same reversal crossed into the bodies against Hajin’s barrier.

The first dropped without releasing its claws, followed by the others as their reinforcement roots broke apart inside them.

More deaths traveled inward through the opaque portal, appearing only as extinguished markers across Aria’s recorded circuit map.

Vella continued until every support branch feeding the mobile node had lost its hostile pulse.

The apex tried pulling its tethers away after the last marker vanished, but Vella had already reached the regeneration route.

She closed violet mana around the shared tissue, reversing everything the mother kept forcing into its wounds.

New root plates tore free from the damaged throat, taking the repaired eye growth plus half the spine armor with them.

The creature fell against the portal as every stolen layer detached, exposing the bone Hajin had broken earlier.

Vella dragged the remaining reinforcement into one violet knot above her palm, then crushed it before the corruption reached her skin.

One branch recoiled instead of dying, snapping backward through the Gate toward the stationary mother’s circuit.

Aria projected the interior route from Hajin’s earlier map, showing the flare travel beneath the summit before entering the mountain itself.

The violet line followed a natural seam from the upper face toward the lowest foundation, exposing where the corruption had fastened both nodes.

"Keep that route," Hajin said, fixing the seam inside Divine Eye, "I want the same line when we go back through."

"Recorded," Aria replied, holding the flare after its real light faded, "the seam reaches from the summit into the lowest channel wall."

Vella pulled her hand from the outer root, bringing dark burns across every mana pathway from her fingers to one shoulder.

The backlash emptied her violet output first, then shortened all six golden threads before the frames reached town.

She stepped after them, but her knees struck the road when the nearest healing line slipped from her control.

Hajin reached through their contract before the injured man’s blood touched the frame again.

Assimilation carried Vella’s golden mana into his left hand, letting him catch all six pathways while maintaining Aegis with the two Rings.

"I can hold them from here," he said, spreading the healing through each wound, "stop forcing power through that arm."

"Three still need me inside the clinic," Vella replied, gripping her burned wrist, "your seals will keep them alive, but they need better hands."

"Then save the hands you plan to use," he said, tightening the weakest seal as its frame crossed the town marker.

Hans kept the carriers moving until the last critical patient entered the clinic street under Marrick’s waiting runners.

Juna could have followed the stripped apex when it backed through the opaque surface, but Hajin still carried six healing routes.

Loccy remained beside her with both arms hanging near the hammer, keeping three Wings open despite their fading edges.

The apex crossed into the Gate before either summon abandoned the wounded line, dragging its severed tethers behind it.

Vella looked toward Elise plus Sable beside the ditch, then pressed her good hand against Hajin’s shoulder to steady herself.

"The clinic has them now," Aria said, replacing five emergency markers with stable ones, "one patient still needs your channel until Vella reaches him."

Hajin kept the final golden line active while the exposed mountain seam waited across his recorded map.
