Chapter 66: Chapter 66: So Close! Just a Little Bit More!
Yue Junxiao froze at his words.
’When did they get evidence? How come I don’t know?’
But he had always thought Hu Yan was the smartest. If he said they had evidence, then they must have it.
Hu Yan’s light blue eyes darkened. "Let’s go. We’ll pay her a visit. The Female Alliance just said they’re still in the air. As long as they haven’t reached their destination, our wife shouldn’t be in mortal danger for the time being."
’He wasn’t actually sure, but all they could do now was take a gamble.’
He was betting that Yun Xi wanted Bai Zhi to disappear from Blue Star completely, but without implicating herself. The best way to do that would be to kill Bai Zhi outside the jurisdiction of the Imperial Alliance.
That way, Bai Zhi would at most be classified as ’missing.’ As long as it wasn’t within the Imperial Alliance’s territory, it wouldn’t be the Empire’s business.
She could even try to frame the Insect Clan or some of Bai Zhi’s old enemies. It wasn’t impossible; it all depended on how she orchestrated it.
As far as he knew, the way Bai Zhi’s father had obtained that Energy Stone wasn’t exactly clean. Anyone with a mind to investigate could find that out.
If they waited for the Female Alliance entirely, once the ship left Blue Star, they would need to file applications with other jurisdictions. The process was complicated and would take time.
So, they had to prepare on two fronts.
The others had no objections. All that mattered was rescuing her as soon as possible.
Yue Junxiao pushed the Flying Sports Car to its absolute limit, covering a distance that would normally take ten minutes in just half the time.
Yun Xi was in a good mood. She had just given herself a simple facial and had made plans with a friend to go shopping and then to a beauty salon.
’I wonder where Bai Zhi gets her treatments done. The results are surprisingly good.’
’Her skin used to be so bad, but now it’s like a peeled egg—fair and smooth, without even a trace of her old freckles.’
When someone came to the door, Yun Xi assumed her friends had arrived, which was a little surprising.
’After all, it’s a good day if they even show up on time. How could they possibly be this early?’
The moment she opened the door, she saw Hu Yan and several of Bai Zhi’s other Beast Husbands standing on her doorstep.
She froze for a moment, and her heart skipped a beat. She clearly hadn’t expected them to show up here at this time.
’According to my plan, they should still be in Zone B for the collective hunt. How could they possibly be at my door?!!’
’Could something have gone wrong with Han Yu’s arrangements?’
But she immediately dismissed the idea. Ever since they had been together, Han Yu had always perfectly accomplished anything he promised, with almost no exceptions.
’So how did Hu Yan and the others get back so suddenly?’
’Did they find out about Bai Zhi?’
Yun Xi’s mind was in turmoil, but her face showed none of it. As if she knew nothing, she asked coolly, "What are you all doing here?"
With a grim expression, Yue Junxiao roared, "Hand over our wife!"
On the way over, Hu Yan had instructed them on how to act once they arrived.
Hearing his accusatory tone, Yun Xi frowned slightly. "What a strange Beastman you are. How would I know where your wife is? You can’t even find your own wife, yet you come running to me?"
Hu Yan didn’t miss the fleeting expression that had crossed her face when she first saw them.
’My guess was correct.’
Hu Yan said calmly, "We ran into two Beastmen in Zone B."
Yun Xi said nothing, merely looking at Hu Yan as if to say, ’What does you running into Beastmen have to do with me?’
Hu Yan wasn’t surprised that she showed no reaction. He simply continued in a slow, deliberate voice, "Those two Beastmen were very strange, so I had Yi Chen follow them. He overheard something interesting."
Hearing this, Yun Xi’s heart tightened, but she knew she couldn’t react, or Hu Yan, who was watching her intently, would see right through her.
Yun Xi said flatly, "What does that have to do with me? Is there anything else? If not, I’m heading out."
"It has nothing to do with you," Hu Yan said, "but it has quite a lot to do with your Beast Husband. Major Han Yu illegally introduced an S-level Beast and High-level Beasts into Zone B and attempted to silence all the Beastmen at the collective hunt by killing them!"
Yun Xi’s pupils contracted as she listened to Hu Yan. She immediately retorted, "You’re lying!"
Hu Yan replied, "Why are you so sure I’m lying? Is it because you know what he did in Zone B?"
Yun Xi said sharply, "It’s because I know what kind of Beastman he is! He would never do something like that. This is utter nonsense. I suggest you leave immediately, or I’ll call for help."
Seeing that her composure was shaken, Hu Yan gave her a cool glance and said softly, "Since we dared to come here, we naturally have evidence of what he did in Zone B. You’d best guarantee our wife’s safety. If we don’t see her within two hours, or if she’s been harmed in any way, this evidence will appear on the desk of your Beast Husband’s rival. I trust you know how to choose."
Yun Xi sneered, "You’re all ridiculous. You lose your own wife and instead of looking for her, you come to me. I told you, I don’t know where your wife is! And you can’t threaten me!"
Hu Yan’s face turned cold as well. "In that case, it seems we don’t need to wait two hours. We’ll send the evidence over right now! Let’s see who gets into trouble first—our wife, or your Beast Husband!!"
Yun Xi showed Hu Yan the Light Computer on her wrist. The screen displayed a call to the Female Alliance’s report hotline, which she had dialed at some unknown point. Her fair face was a mask of calm composure. "That depends on whether you can even get out of here! If I tell them you’re harassing me, what do you think will happen to you?"
At her words, Hu Yan suddenly laughed. "Did you think we’d come here completely unprepared? Haven’t you noticed someone’s missing?"
Yun Xi’s expression changed instantly. Only then did she realize that Lang Qiu and that Snake Beastman weren’t there!
As if he had everything under control, Hu Yan said slowly, "We can make a deal. You return our wife to us, safe and sound, and we’ll destroy the evidence. How about it?"
Yun Xi bit her lip. ’I can’t accept this! I was so close!! Just a little more and I would have succeeded!! I just can’t accept it!!’
’If Bai Zhi hadn’t, for some godforsaken reason, decided to stick with her Beast Husbands every single day recently, I wouldn’t have needed to ask Han Yu for help.’
’I never imagined that would become my weakness—the very leverage they’re now using to threaten me!!’
She wasn’t sure how much evidence Hu Yan and the others had, but she remembered how Han Yu had been suppressed by his rival’s spiritual power during the auction incident. If Hu Yan’s group sent this new evidence to Major Yu...
They knew she wouldn’t dare to gamble, which was why they had the guts to come here so brazenly.
At this thought, Yun Xi’s nails dug so deeply into her palms they nearly broke, and her expression turned grim.
Hu Yan, in contrast, was as calm as if he were discussing the weather, not in the middle of a tense negotiation.
’Aren’t they worried about Bai Zhi’s safety?’
’Bai Zhi has been missing for so long. Aren’t they afraid something has already happened to her?’
