Chapter 228: WHAT IS IT
Liuxian remained thoughtful.
"So the symptoms weren’t warning us about another illness."
"No."
Yanchen answered without hesitation.
"They were warning you that something about this cycle was different."
He paused briefly before looking toward Guiying again.
"Based on everything you’ve told me today, your previous heats have been uncomplicated."
Guiying nodded once.
"They were."
"That made today’s symptoms unusual enough to investigate."
Yanchen offered a small smile.
"And I’m glad you came in instead of waiting another few days."

Guiying lowered his eyes toward the report resting on the desk.
"I honestly thought I was getting sick."
"That would’ve been a reasonable assumption."
Yanchen leaned back comfortably in his chair.
"Several of your symptoms overlap with conditions we routinely investigate, which is exactly why we performed the tests instead of making assumptions."
Liuxian quietly asked,
"So there’s nothing else hidden in these reports?"
Yanchen picked up the laboratory folder once more before reviewing the final page.
"I’ve gone through every result."
He closed the folder with a soft tap.
"At this point, everything supports the same diagnosis."
He looked from Liuxian to Guiying.
"Your symptoms are being caused by an unusually intense rise in pheromone production associated with the beginning of your heat."
The room gradually became quiet.
Neither Guiying nor Liuxian spoke immediately, both of them taking a few moments to process everything they had just heard.
Guiying eventually let out a slow breath.
"I was preparing myself to hear something much worse."
Yanchen smiled reassuringly.
"I know."
"Fortunately, today’s investigation ruled out the conditions I was most concerned about."
He gathered the reports into a single folder before placing them neatly on the desk.
"Now that we know exactly what’s causing your symptoms..."
Yanchen rested one hand on the medical file.
"We can discuss how we’re going to manage this cycle."
He leaned back on his chair. Though his expression was still serious.
"Stay hydrated."
"Eat regularly, even if it’s only small meals."
"Get plenty of rest."
"When the heat begins, don’t try to force yourself through it or delay it."
His gaze shifted briefly toward both of them before he continued in the same professional tone.
"For bonded Alpha-Omega couples, regular intimacy during the heat helps the body regulate and release excess pheromone production naturally. That reduces physiological stress and allows hormone levels to return to baseline more efficiently."
Neither Liuxian nor Guiying interrupted.

Yanchen simply continued with the same matter-of-fact professionalism.
"I also need both of you to understand something important."
He picked up the final report.
"Guiying is entering an exceptionally fertile phase."
"The laboratory markers suggest fertility is significantly elevated during this cycle."
He looked directly at them.
"If you are not planning for a pregnancy, you should make reproductive decisions accordingly."
The consultation room gradually became quiet again.
Yanchen closed the file and gave them a smile.
"It must have been scary. Having to experience that. Our bodies can be dramatic at times, but luckily this is something we can fix and it’s pretty easy as well. You’ll be using this device, it’s a pheromone counter, similar to the one used for diabetes, a drop of blood and you’ll be able to check your pheromones levels, normal range is within 50-60 for omegas and 80 to 100 for alphas again range varies.."
Yanchen finished writing the prescription before signing his name at the bottom of the page.
He slipped the paper into the document envelope together with Guiying’s laboratory reports before handing everything across the desk, the reassuring smile on his face replacing the seriousness that had filled the consultation room throughout the morning.
"I’ll have the pharmacy prepare the medication before you leave."
Guiying accepted the envelope with both hands.
"Thank you, Cousin Yanchen."
Yanchen smiled.
"You handled today much better than most people would have."
He leaned back against his chair before letting out a quiet breath.
"Go home, get some proper rest and stop frightening your husband every few hours."
Guiying couldn’t help laughing.
"I’ll try."
"You’d better."
The atmosphere inside the office finally relaxed.
The anxiety that had followed them into the hospital that morning gradually disappeared, replaced by the quiet relief that came from finally having an answer.
Guiying carefully tucked the envelope into his bag before turning toward Liuxian.
"Your turn."
Liuxian looked at him before smiling helplessly.
"I was hoping you’d forget."
Guiying raised an eyebrow.
"I’ve spent the whole morning being examined."
His smile gradually became a little brighter.
"You don’t get to escape."
Yanchen chuckled.
"I agree."
He stood from his chair before straightening the sleeves of his white coat.
"Come with me."

Liuxian also rose to his feet.
"Aren’t you going to ask me anything first?"
Yanchen looked at him as though he had just asked the most unnecessary question imaginable.
"I’ve been your doctor long enough to know exactly what lecture I’m about to give."
He opened the office door before glancing back over his shoulder.
"I’d rather spend that time looking at your stomach instead."
Liuxian rubbed the back of his neck.
"...Fair enough."
Guiying quietly followed behind the two cousins, remaining a few steps back as they walked through the corridor.
The hospital had become much busier than when they first arrived.
Doctors moved briskly between consultation rooms while nurses guided patients through the different departments. Despite the activity surrounding them, Yanchen never slowed his pace, leading them directly toward the endoscopy suite.
Several members of staff greeted him as he passed.
"Good morning, Dr. Gu."
Yanchen acknowledged them with a brief nod before stopping outside one of the examination rooms.
A nurse immediately approached.
"Doctor."
"The room is ready."
Yanchen thanked her before turning toward Liuxian.
"This won’t take long."
Liuxian gave a small nod.
"I’m leaving myself in your hands."
Yanchen smiled faintly.
"That would’ve sounded much more convincing if you actually listened to me outside the hospital."
Liuxian laughed quietly.
"I’ll work on that."
"You’ve been saying that for years."
The nurse couldn’t help smiling as she prepared everything for the examination.
Once everything was ready, Yanchen gestured toward the examination bed.
"Lie down."
Liuxian calmly did as instructed while the nurse completed the routine preparations.
Guiying remained quietly to one side of the room.
Although he had never seen this examination performed before, the seriousness on Yanchen’s face made him instinctively pay closer attention.
The room gradually fell silent.

Only the soft sounds of medical equipment and the occasional instructions from the nurse broke the quiet as the examination began.
Yanchen’s eyes remained fixed on the monitor throughout.
At first...
Nothing about his expression changed.
He calmly guided the examination forward, studying each image carefully before moving on to the next.
Several minutes later...
His movements slowed.
The relaxed expression that had remained on his face since leaving the consultation room quietly disappeared.
Guiying immediately noticed.
His fingers unconsciously tightened around the strap of his bag.
Liuxian couldn’t see the monitor.
"What is it?"
