Chapter 163: LIVE A LITTLE FIRST

Limo laughed, short and genuine, and dropped onto the sofa across from him with the loose easy energy of someone whose distress apparently had an off switch when Guiying walked into the room. "You came all the way here and on such a busy day too. I’m touched."

"It’s my day off, so don’t waste my time."

"Okay, okay." He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, and the humour in his face settled into something more honest underneath it. "You want to know who he is?"

"Yes. I want to know everything," Guiying said. "Start from the beginning."

Limo was quiet for a moment, turning his phone over in his hands once before setting it face down on the cushion beside him.

"Liu Moying," he said.

Guiying looked at him.

"Your husband’s younger brother," Limo added, somewhat unnecessarily.

-_-

Of all the Alphas in Beijing.

Guiying sat back in his chair and looked at the ceiling for a long moment, then back at Limo, who had the expression of a man who was fully aware of every single complication attached to this situation and had been living quietly inside all of them for days.

"All of it," Guiying said. "From the beginning."

"It’s been days," Limo said, "Days of me setting boundaries I cannot keep. I told myself nothing could rival what I felt for you, that those feelings were the standard, the ceiling you know."

He exhaled slowly. "I was wrong. He came in and unraveled everything. Turned me completely upside down and made me realize what I thought I felt for you was never really there, not the way this is."

He looked at his hands. "But how am I supposed to do this, Guiying? I’m an heir. My father will want a child, a continuation, all of that. I can see exactly how this ends and it ends with me hurt in a way I don’t think I’ll survive. So help me. Advise me. Before it gets to a point where I can no longer pull back."

Guiying looked at him for a moment, then move towards and pulled him into his arms.

Limo went without resistance, which said more than anything he had said out loud.

Guiying held him for a moment before speaking. "In life you have to learn to be selfish," he said quietly. "You have to choose yourself, regardless of family, regardless of what anyone expects from you. We are all separate individuals who in the end will lead our own lives. Don’t sacrifice your happiness for someone else’s comfort. And if it’s a child they want, there are options. Adoption exists. Other paths exist."

Limo pulled back slowly. "If I take those options I’ll hurt him. If I were an Omega there would be no issue but I’m not, so we can never be together properly. I need to remove him from my life before it reaches the point where I’m unable to."

Guiying looked at him. "You must really like him."

Limo shook his head. "I don’t. But I can see myself growing to love him, which is precisely why care must be taken."

Guiying studied him for a moment. "Did you sleep with him?"

-_-

Limo opened his mouth.

"Yes." A pause. "Another one of my predicaments. After tasting that thick meaty cock I don’t think I can go back. When he fucks me he’s surprisingly gentle despite ravaging me completely, and his pheromones are on another level entirely. When we did it my body felt different. He made me feel like an Omega."

-_-

Guiying stared at him.

"You’ve gotten more vulgar," he said flatly. "I did not need to know any of that. Disgusting."

Limo laughed, loud and genuine, leaning back into the sofa cushions until his head hit the backrest. "Best bros share their love life all the time, baby. Besides, after having a piece of Liu Liuxian’s dingdong I highly doubt you’d want to leave him either."

Guiying looked at him with a flatness in his expression that could have curdled milk.

"Can you stop with all the nonsense," he said. "It’s becoming alarming."

Limo pressed his lips together, shoulders still shaking.

Guiying stood, smoothed his waistcoat down with both hands, lifted his bag off the chair and settled the strap on his shoulder.

The navy Miu Miu sat against his hip as he turned to face Limo one last time, beret still tilted over his blonde hair, rings catching the light from the floor to ceiling windows behind him.

Limo had stopped laughing. He was looking up at Guiying from the sofa with his elbows still on his knees, something quieter sitting in his face now, the performance of the last few minutes folded away.

"I’m heading out," Guiying said. "But one last thing before I go."

Limo said nothing, listening.

"I want you happy," Guiying said. "That’s the whole of it. If you think he can make you happy then stay. He’s very handsome, the company certainly won’t be boring." A small pause. "Your family will push back, biology will complicate things, but we are not animals and we despise being controlled. There are options when it comes to the pregnancy matter, I’m sure something exists that can help when the time comes. But you’re still young, Limo." He held his gaze. "Live a little first. That’s all I have to say."

The light from the window fell across Limo’s face and he was quiet for a moment, his jaw loose, his eyes steady on Guiying the way they got when something had landed properly and he was letting it settle.

"Thank you, baby," he said softly.

Guiying straightened his beret, turned, and walked to the door.

"Stop calling me baby, I’m married." he said, without looking back.

"Never," Limo said, and the word followed Guiying out through the double doors and down the corridor, warm and easy, the way it always had been.

The elevator opened into the lobby and Guiying pushed through the glass entrance doors into the Thursday morning air.

The forecourt stretched out in front of him, pale concrete catching the early light, the Lexus sitting in the visitor bay to his left with the morning sun flat across its bonnet.

The sky above Beijing was a washed-out blue, thin and bright, the traffic rolling past in its Thursday rhythm beyond the forecourt gates, the pavements less packed than a weekday.

He was still deciding where to go first when the men appeared.

Six of them, coming from the right side of the forecourt where the shadow of the building fell long and cool across the concrete.

Dark clothing, clean shoes, no rush in their pace, hands at their sides and visible. They moved in a loose formation that closed around him without closing, stopping three feet away.

Each one bowed.

The one at the front straightened first. Perhaps twenty-six, lean through the shoulders, with a face that sat at the particular intersection of pretty and sharp.

Black trousers, black shirt, black jacket, not a crease anywhere on any of it, his weight distributed evenly across both feet, his hands loose at his sides.

"Young Master Xue," he said. "My name is Tao Lingyue. I serve under your uncle, Mr. Xue ShangYan. He requests the honour of an audience with you."
