Chapter 427: As long as you’re safe...
"Nina, should we go over and help?" Sal asked.
"Yes. You guys help deal with Tair. Leave Xirin to Idir, but be careful of Tair’s special ability. I need to wait a moment for Odian," Nina replied.
"Alright."
Sal led Mino, Finch, and Yanai into the fray against Tair. Aviel and Lex went to back up Odian, while Kith, Dian, and Setan stayed behind to guard Nina and the cubs.
Nina split her focus, keeping a close eye on both fights so she could intervene if necessary.
Tair and Alar were already structurally weaker than Idir and Milt. With the sudden addition of Sal and the others, they quickly found themselves completely overwhelmed and exhausted.
Xirin’s face darkened. The combat strength of Nina’s husbands was not to be underestimated.
Just then, Penny slowly stirred awake. Hearing the sounds of brutal combat echoing around her, she opened her eyes to see Tair and Alar pinned down under a heavy siege.
Panic seized her. "Idir? Father! Tair!"
Why were they all fighting each other?
Hearing Penny call out Idir’s name, Xirin let out a mocking sneer. This female was certainly sentimental; Idir was already mated, yet she was still pining after him.
The sound of Penny’s voice caused Tair and Alar to momentarily falter. Seizing the lapse in concentration, Milt delivered a devastating blow straight to Alar. The impact sent Alar flying through the air before crashing heavily into the ground, unable to get back up.

Tair was forced backward as well. Standing alone against multiple opponents, his situation grew direr by the second.
"Father!"
Seeing Alar thrown back, Penny panicked. Only then did she remember she was still held hostage, and she began to struggle wildly in Xirin’s grip.
"Sal, leave Tair to your team. I’ll handle Xirin," Idir called out.
"You got it," Sal responded.
Seeing Idir charging toward him again, Xirin glared fiercely at Tair and Alar. Useless trash.
As Idir launched an attack, Xirin’s eyes flashed with malice. He ruthlessly yanked Penny in front of him to use as a shield.
Tair’s eyes nearly split from rage at the sight. Throwing caution to the wind, he lunged forward at maximum speed, throwing his own body into the path of Idir’s strike.
He whirled around and roared at Xirin, "Xirin! What the hell do you think you’re doing?!"
"If you can’t hold Idir off, then your female master is going to serve as my shield instead," Xirin replied indifferently.
Tair ground his teeth so hard they clicked.
Idir and Sal’s group frowned in disgust. Xirin truly was a shameless coward to hide behind a female.
Xirin tightened his grip, his sharp claws digging slightly into Penny’s neck until a thin line of blood welled up. "Now go kill Idir and Milt for me."
Penny thrashed against him. "Tair, don’t!" The movement only caused the claws to cut deeper, drawing more blood.
Tair panicked instantly. "Penny, stop moving!" Clenching his fists, he threw himself at Idir.
Xirin pinned Penny down firmly. "Stupid female, hold still."
Sal and his team immediately moved to assist Idir. Outnumbered and outmatched, Tair was quickly beaten back at every turn, yet he still desperately threw himself at Idir over and over again.
Finally, his battered body gave out, and he was slammed violently to the ground. He tried to force himself up to keep fighting, but he knew he was running on empty.
Ignoring the fallen Tair, Idir lunged straight for Xirin. Milt glanced briefly at Tair before joining Idir in the assault.

Sal and the others moved in to apprehend Tair. Even as he struggled to dodge their advance, Tair kept casting desperate glances in Penny’s direction, trying to find a way to get to her.
With Idir and Milt working in tandem, Xirin found himself hard-pressed to keep up. He dragged Penny with him as he ducked and dove, but her frantic thrashing in his arms was fast becoming a liability. He repeatedly tried to use her to block incoming strikes, but Idir and Milt were prepared; they expertly altered their trajectories to bypass her and strike Xirin directly.
Fighting a two-on-one battle while wrestling with a hostage, Xirin suffered several harsh wounds.
In a moment of distraction, Idir threw him violently against a nearby stone wall. Instantly, Milt followed up with a thunderous, incredibly powerful elemental attack. Countless jagged ice spikes materialized, hurtling toward him like a storm.
Xirin shot a venomous glare at Penny. Since Tair was already finished, she was no longer of any use to him.
He cast her aside without hesitation, throwing his entire weight into dodging Milt’s attack.
Penny’s eyes widened in sheer horror as she watched the barrage of ice spikes flying straight at her.
Tair, whose eyes had never left her, went completely pale with fright. "Penny!"
Screaming her name, he summoned every remaining ounce of his strength and threw himself in front of her, using his back to shield her from the onslaught. Though he did his best to manifest a defense, the sheer volume of ice spikes tore through his protection, burying themselves deep into his flesh.
Covered in blood, Tair collapsed heavily over Penny.
Penny stared blankly at the blood-drenched male slumped over her. "Tair..."
Tair weakly lifted his paper-white face, his voice a barely audible whisper. "Penny... as long as you’re safe..."
A deep, lingering regret flickered in his eyes. "I don’t think... I can protect you anymore. You must find some powerful males who truly love you... and live a good life."
Penny’s hands shook uncontrollably, hovering over him, terrified to touch his wounds. "Tair, stop talking. You’re going to be fine. I’ll get the witch doctor to save you right now!"
Tair gave a faint, slow shake of his head. "It’s no use. I already..." He knew he was dying.
A wave of profound sorrow washed over his face. "Penny... forget about Idir. Stop thinking about him... only then can you be truly happy."
He slowly raised a trembling hand, wanting to touch the face engraved in his heart one last time. His eyes were filled with an infinite, tender attachment. "I’m sorry... I can’t... stay with you... anymore..."
Before the last word could fully leave his lips, the light in his eyes faded, and his hand fell limply to the ground.
Penny snatched up his hand, pressing it tightly against her cheek as she rocked him gently. "Tair, don’t scare me. Wake up, please? Tair..."

She called his name over and over, but Tair would never give her that gentle response again.
As the finality of it truly sank in, her vision blurred. Hot tears spilled over, flowing down her face in an unstoppable torrent. She clutched his body to her chest, letting out a grief-stricken cry: "Tair!"
Idir cast a brief glance at Tair’s body, let out a quiet sigh, and immediately resumed his pursuit of Xirin.
Seeing that Idir had the upper hand against Xirin, Sal and the others chose not to interfere. Instead, they cut off Milt and fell back to stand guard beside Nina. They knew Idir wanted to end Xirin with his own hands; furthermore, Milt’s true allegiance remained ambiguous.
Milt didn’t press the matter, turning back instead to reinforce his elders.
Xirin was completely broken by Idir’s relentless assault. Clutching his bleeding wounds, he fled in absolute desperation. Idir’s talent was truly terrifying; even after Xirin had used the black crystal to boost his cultivation so significantly, he was still no match for him.
Idir’s eyes were icy cold. "Xirin, your time is up."
He raised both hands, and a massive, staggering wave of black energy erupted around him. In the blink of an eye, it swept across the field like a tidal wave, completely engulfing Xirin.
Xirin’s pupils dilated in pure terror. Before he could even attempt to dodge, the overwhelming black energy tore him apart, leaving nothing behind but a mist of blood.
Idir looked coldly at the bloody residue, then turned to hunt down the remaining targets.
Just then, Odian returned to the group and leaned down to whisper a few words into Nina’s ear.
Nina’s beautiful eyes sharpened instantly. So that was it.
