Chapter 546: Chapter 353: Senseless Slaughter (2)

"And the first time I joined a gang, you know who I was with, right? I was with the leader of the Rhino Gang, that flat-headed fat guy."

"We were drinking with a big client, and just because I accidentally bumped his chopsticks while picking up food, that damn fatty wanted to suck up to him and smashed a beer bottle on my head."

"But that wasn’t it! The two even pissed on my head together, two streams straight on my face. That disgusting smell I’ll never forget in my life!"

At this point, Gordon’s eyes filled with ferocity: "I swore in my heart at that moment, one day, I’ll make it to the top, I’ll make sure no one in this world dares to look down on me!"

Looking at Gordon’s indignation, Karin’s expression was somewhat sad: "Just for some pride, you kill so many people every day, is it worth it?"

Gordon shouted, "Yes, it’s worth it! How is it not worth it? Isn’t surviving in the streets just about dignity?!"

"I’m now the King of the Borderlands, everyone fears me, everyone bows to me, and I’ll never be bullied again, only the other way around!"

"That coffin shop owner, he likes hearing dogs bark, huh? Later, I slaughtered a dog and sewed its mouth onto his, now he can bark for himself every day, for a lifetime!"

"And that damn fatty, he pissed on me, right? I drowned him in the urinal, made him die in piss!"

"That’s a king, you get it? I hold the power over life and death, whoever I want to live can live, whoever I want dead must die! That’s what I’ve strived for half my life to achieve!"

Karin retorted, "What about us? Aren’t I and our daughter important to you at all?"

Gordon hesitated for a moment and asked, puzzled, "Why ask that? You’re my family, of course, you’re important."

"We’ve known each other since childhood, been inseparable, even during the tough times never split."

"I’ve made it now, and many women want to throw themselves at me, my bros say I should have more, but I tell them, no way! You’re my first wife, whether rich or poor, I won’t abandon you, I won’t consider anyone else."

"I love you, Kallen, and I love our daughter... why ask me such questions?"

Kallen held her forehead, speaking weakly, "You say you love us, but you’ve never considered our feelings. All these years, you’ve only known fighting and killing, Agatha and I don’t want to see you like this..."

Gordon got a bit angry, pointing at his nose, "You don’t like me going out fighting and killing every day? Why do I do it, is it not for you guys?!"

"If I don’t fight, don’t strive, don’t expand my power for money, what would I use to support you and our daughter?"

"Look at what you’re using now, like that beauty tool I gave you, high-end stuff from the Inner City, one unit costs hundreds of thousands."

"And when Agatha got sick early this year, I specifically arranged for a private medical team from the Inner City to give her the best care, that alone cost over a million."

"These things, how many in the Borderlands can afford them? If I weren’t the King of the Borderlands, could you live such a good life? And now you’re complaining about me?"

Kallen bit her lip hard, placing a hand on Gordon’s arm, speaking shakily: "Gordon, we’re not complaining, but this isn’t the life we want."

"You don’t know, every time there are gunshots outside the window, Agatha and I are too scared to make a sound, afraid thugs will break in."

"Every time you come home late or when we can’t reach you, we can’t sleep all night, worrying if something happened to you."

"Those luxuries and treatments you mention, we don’t care for them; they’re surface-level stuff."

"All we want is a peaceful life, I hope Agatha can grow up well, as long as we live safely, it doesn’t matter if we’re not somebody important."

"Besides, we’ve saved a lot of money by now, we could find a place to start over and still have a good life, right?"

Gordon impatiently waved his hand: "I don’t want to talk anymore, the path is a man’s business, women shouldn’t meddle, just be a good housewife."

"My connections and career are here in the Borderlands, there’s no way I’m leaving. If you and Agatha don’t like it here, you can move to another city yourself, don’t worry about money, I have plenty, I’ll send it every month, I’ll visit when I can."

Listening, Agatha’s eyes shimmered with tears, grasping Kallen’s sleeve and choking, "Mom, I don’t want to be separated from Dad..."

Kallen looked at Gordon with complexity in her eyes, letting out a wry smile, her tone turning sorrowful: "I understand now, you just can’t let go of your pride."

"You were bullied for so long, now that you’ve climbed to the top, the feeling of being above others has become an addiction."

"You say you’re doing this for us, but it’s not true! You’re doing it for yourself! You can’t let go of the title of King of the Borderlands, you’re afraid people will mock you if you retire!"

"Gordon, is your pride more important than your family’s happiness? Are you going to live for that pride your whole life? Keep fighting and killing, wasting life on that, until everyone in the Borderlands fears you, and then you’re satisfied?!"

"Bang!"

Gordon slammed his palm on the table, his strength causing the tabletop to crack, he shouted: "I’ve told you! Women shouldn’t interfere in men’s affairs! Eat!"

Kallen didn’t speak anymore, just stared at her plate of spaghetti, silently stirring, and forked some large chunks of meat for Agatha.

Agatha, with innocent big eyes, timidly looked at her arguing parents, not daring to utter a word.

"Ring-ring-ring." Just then, the sound of a phone ringing broke the silence.

Gordon took out his phone and answered: "Speak... What? Those bastards dare to come again? Wait for me there, I’ll be right over."

He said, then pushed his plate forward and stood up from the table.

Kallen asked urgently, "Where are you going?"

Gordon put on a punk-style jacket and said coldly: "A batch of goods got hijacked by the Spider Gang, some bros got killed. I’m gonna finish them off, show what happens if you mess with me!"

Kallen worriedly blocked his path: "You just got home, barely touched your meal, and you’re leaving again?!"

Gordon impatiently pulled her aside and headed to the door: "How many times did I say, don’t meddle in men’s affairs. Leave me some food in the fridge, I might be late coming back."

"Gordon!" Kallen shouted at his back, choking up, "Today is your daughter’s birthday!"

Gordon noticeably hesitated, turning to look at Agatha.

Agatha bit her lip, sitting in the chair, looking at Gordon sadly, those big eyes full of grievance.

Only then did Gordon notice the unopened birthday cake in the kitchen behind him.

Too many things on his mind, he forgot his daughter’s birthday.

Kallen’s voice trembled, using a pleading tone: "Today is Agatha’s 14th birthday, she’s been looking forward to it for a long time. I asked her earlier what gift she wanted, she said nothing, just hoped dad could be with her."

"Gordon, just this once, okay? I won’t care what you do later, just spend a good birthday with our daughter today, I’m begging you..."

Gordon stood silently in place, his expression showing some hesitation.

Soon, the phone rang again, the bros calling to hurry him.

Gordon gritted his teeth, after a moment, he broke away from Kallen’s grasp, telling Agatha: "Sweetie, dad really has something tonight, if things go well I’ll try to come back early. If I can’t make it today, we’ll celebrate your birthday in a few days. Be good."

Finished, he walked out of the house, once more stepping towards the familiar path of slaughter, not turning back to look at them.
