Chapter 511: Chapter 335: Disaster Strikes (Part 2)

The constantly honking cars on the street created a cacophony as drivers, consumed by panic, lost their composure. Vehicles collided in their struggle for passage, producing a piercing crash that exacerbated the chaos amid the escape.

The evacuation of the Border District had started a month ago, and indeed, many had fled in advance to seek refuge, but not all.

No matter how hard Wolf Raiders tried, it was impossible to affect every individual; quite a few believed their warnings were exaggerated and refused to leave, or left only to return later.

Of course, a large portion simply lacked the ability to leave. Despite the Border District being a decayed wasteland, it was still their only home, and leaving meant having nowhere to go, ultimately forcing them to stay.

For whatever reason, out of the total population of 8 million in the Border District, only about one to two million had truly evacuated early; at least 6 million remained.

And now, those unwilling or unable to leave the Border District became the first victims caught in the claws of the monstrous threat.

The original order of the Border District had collapsed, with people trying to flee chaotically on the streets, vehicles and crowds jamming together, effectively sealing the entrances and exits of the main thoroughfares.

Some citizens had already encountered the monstrous creatures, which charged into the crowd, triggering vast blood sprays, creating scenes akin to hell as far as the eye could see.

On the rusty walls, soldiers of the defense forces witnessed the sudden transformation, feeling chilled from head to foot.

"Something’s happened... Quick! Sound the alarm! All wall patrol stations go into emergency mode! Report the situation to the command center, hurry!!!"

...

The Tunneling Insect appeared in the Northern Border District, a territory of the Ashen Gang, suffering the most severe impact.

Wolf Raiders’ base was in the southeast region, a certain distance from the North District, so it had not been greatly affected temporarily.

But now, core members of Wolf Raiders had gathered, having learned the news of the monstrous appearances.

This wasn’t newly discovered; they had known since a month ago, and today was merely confirmation of its authenticity.

Hibell looked at the drone footage on the table, gasping: "The Edge boss was right, the monstrous creatures really appeared!"

Compared to the others exchanging glances, Fenrir appeared very composed, showing little expression as he directly asked, "North District is Ashen Gang’s territory, Crow’s Nest is adjacent. What are their reactions?"

Troy reported solemnly, "Intelligence personnel just sent news that Hong Chenle, head of Crow’s Nest, and Abraham, leader of Ashen Gang, have already fled on hovercars. Their thugs are also escaping individually; North District is in a state of complete neglect and chaos."

Hibell couldn’t help but curse: "A bunch of useless bastards! They clash with us fiercely in normal times but flee quicker than anyone when trouble arises!"

Fenrir: "What’s the situation for the populace?"

Troy: "Casualties in the North District are very severe; other regions aren’t too bad for now. People are escaping towards the East District against the rusty walls, hoping to seek refuge in the Inner City, but..."

He looked grim, saying heavily, "The city gates at the rusty walls are tightly closed, showing no intention to admit the Border District’s residents."

Hibell’s heart sank: "This wasn’t the agreement! The boss said Sikinkov would think of a way to open the city gates against the rusty walls!"

"Everyone’s moved over there, and if the doors don’t open and the monstrous creatures catch up, won’t everyone be trapped inside to be slaughtered?!"

Fenrir pondered for a moment, then said, "He must be facing resistance over there, let’s try to buy him some time."

With that, she uncovered a large strategic map on the table by removing a dust cover.

This strategic map was crafted based on the terrain of the Border District, accurately replicating its entire layout, with exquisite attention to detail.

The map uses various colors and materials to distinguish terrain features: gray-white areas represent bridges and streets, scattered black blocks indicate buildings, transparent sheets simulate river flow, and important landmarks are marked with dedicated signs.

This strategic map was custom-made by Wolf Raiders years ago at great expense, and before every major operation, Fenrir would study it deeply, sometimes staring for hours without moving, as each of her decisions determined the outcome of actions and the lives of those under her command.

Now, Fenrir once again picked up the command baton, gesturing on the map and explaining her premeditated emergency arrangements.

"As people flee east, they are bound to pass through these areas. Without guidance, trampling incidents are likely, causing unnecessary casualties."

"Those within the organization whose Blood Codes are at the ’Awakened Level’ and prosthetics at the ’Ordinary Management Level,’ as well as those without extraordinary powers, send them to these areas to maintain order, assisting the populace to evacuate orderly."

"Those with Blood Codes at the ’Elevated Level’ and prosthetics at the ’Stringently Managed Level,’ assist in the rearguard, try to lure the monstrous creatures into these areas, then use heavy weapons to blow up bridges and elevated hubs here, here, and here, greatly hindering the monstrous pursuit, buying more time for evacuation."

Looking at Fenrir’s distribution, the Wolf Raiders members around had only one word in their minds — dangerous.

Those responsible for maintaining order might be alright, but those dispatched to execute rearguard tasks would truly be dancing on the edge of a blade.

In such chaotic circumstances, with so many monstrous threats, they have to lure them away, stall them, detonate, and then escape... Even for powerful Extraordinary Beings, executing such tasks is fraught with peril.

Finally, Fenrir pointed the command baton at a location in the Northern Border District.

Based on the drone footage received, that was precisely where the Tunneling Insect burst forth, the source of this monstrous surge.

Fenrir: "Hibell."

Hibell: "Here!"

"Bring all members with Blood Codes above ’Critical Level’ and prosthetics above ’Military Grade’..." Fenrir’s eyes reflected the place that had turned into hell on earth. Her tone was heavy yet authoritative, "Follow me there and seal the tunnel."

Fenrir finished, turning to leave the meeting room before anyone could react.

After an unknown period, Hibell was the first to regain composure and told the others, "You’ve all heard, follow the assigned tasks and do your own job."

Hibell was about to leave when Troy grabbed her arm.

Sweat had already started to appear on Troy’s forehead, and his voice trembled slightly: "What are you doing?"

Hibell calmly replied, "What do you think? I am an ’Ultra-low Tier’ Azure Wolf Blood Code Carrier, executing the third task, going with the boss lady to seal the tunnel."

Troy shouted in a questioning voice, "Are you crazy? The passage the Tunneling Insects drilled out will be coated in a special mucus secreted by their bodies. When solidified, that mucus becomes a high-strength crystal, not even high-yield explosives can easily blow it apart, what are you going to use to seal it?!"

Hibell opened her palm, squeezing it into a fist forcefully, saying, "With our strength."

"I’ve read the intelligence report; the monstrous surge this time is ferocious, but mainly comprises low-tier small monstrous creatures. Dangerous to ordinary people, but manageable for high-tier Extraordinary Beings."

"The passage drilled out by the Tunneling Insects is the singular exit for the monstrous creatures. As long as we concentrate elite forces guarding there, all the monstrous creatures that emerge will be annihilated one by one, and that’s like sealing off the source."

Troy shouted sternly, "Are you kidding? Even if the monstrous creatures are low-tier, so what? That terrifying number, can exhaust you to death! How long can your flesh and blood withstand it?!"

"Moreover, you have Blood Code Dissociation Syndrome, and it’s already in the late stage. If you employ Blood Code Power intensely, what will happen to your body?!"

Hibell was silent for a moment, then said lightly, "That’s a matter for later. Now the boss lady needs my strength, so I will stand with her, whatever follows we’ll address afterward."

She finished, shaking off Troy’s hand and leaving directly.

Troy watched as his sister walked away, his eyes reddened, shouting angrily: "Eventually, she will get you killed!!!"
