Chapter 505: Chapter 332: Mobilizing the Whole City (2)
If you look closely, you will find a human convoy ahead of the beast horde, undoubtedly people from the armed forces outside the fortress.
Originally, they were a group of over three thousand with solid base defenses, but unfortunately, their base lay right in the path of the beast horde.
Facing such a terrifying number, the base had no time to respond. It was like sand before a giant wave, swept away without a trace.
This convoy was the base’s only survivor. They drove at full throttle, fleeing helplessly, but it was all in vain.
During the escape, the vehicle accidentally hit a large stone, causing it to flip over. It turned into a blood and mud-covered scrap under the trampling of the beasts behind.
Watching the images sent back from the bomber squadron, Yang Fuchai, Xie Zongchang, and the Razor Captain all stood frozen, staring blankly at the scene.
The surrounding soldiers gradually noticed, and cries of alarm echoed continuously, as fear spread through everyone like an invisible cold fog.
Xie Zongchang was already drenched in cold sweat. He said with a trembling voice to Yang Fuchai, "Fuchai, we need more manpower on our side..."
Yang Fuchai shouted: "I’m laying it all out for you, Xie, damn it, did you hear me? Damn it! I’m going to report the situation to headquarters. Give those handles to whoever you want! I don’t want to be a traitor of the human race, I’m not playing along anymore!"
The holographic communication was cut off, and the Celestial Gate Patrol Station fell into dead silence, with only the increasingly close rumbling of the ground.
...
At dawn, Sikinkov stood by the window in his director’s uniform, staring at the gradually brightening sky in the distance.
He hadn’t slept all night, constantly waiting.
Su Mo had previously told him that today was the day for that great upheaval.
Based on their friendship, Sikinkov subjectively wanted to believe Su Mo.
But honestly, in his subconscious, he still didn’t believe it.
No, rather than not believing, it’s more about not wanting to believe, not wanting to see such things happen in New Moon City.
So even though he was extremely tired last night, he still couldn’t sleep, just waiting silently in the office, hoping he was waiting for nothing, hoping the usually prophetic brother would be "wrong" for the first time.
The sun gradually rose, and the myriad beings of New Moon City awoke from their slumber. Traffic on the streets slowly became congested, starting off another busy day.
"Ring ring ring." The piercing phone rang.
Sikinkov’s hand trembled slightly as he picked it up: "Hello?"
Yang Le’s urgent voice came through: "Director, Amir City Council President has called an emergency meeting. You are to go to the City Hall Main Conference Room immediately."
Sikinkov’s heart rate had already peaked. He hung up the phone and quickly headed to the hovercar garage, en route to City Hall.
In the main conference room, department heads from all over New Moon City gathered, many just out of bed, their hair uncombed, adding an extra layer of tension to the meeting.
Once everyone arrived, Amir, still disheveled, sat at the head seat, and said grimly: "Gentlemen, I just received shocking news; the Hesu Company Celestial Gate Patrol Station, 348 kilometers from New Moon City, has fallen."
The words instantly caused an uproar among the crowd.
Someone asked, "Who conquered it? The armed forces outside the fortress?"
Amir delivered a shocking answer: "No, it was taken over by beasts."
The astonishment spread among everyone, with people looking at each other, at a loss.
Beasts?
Meaning those inferior creatures in the Land of No Master, stronger than wild animals yet lacking advanced intelligence, conquered a military fortress where advanced human technology devised by three major corporate giants was gathered?
This answer was so absurd it made them wonder if today was April Fool’s Day.
In their shock, Sikinkov recalled Su Mo’s words, his pupils unfocused, subconsciously murmuring, "Who exactly are you..."
Amir looked over: "Sikinkov, what did you say?"
Sikinkov snapped back to his senses, realizing he let something slip, he gathered his disorganized thoughts and tried to cover, "I said, what kind of idiots are in the Celestial Gate Patrol Station, that they can’t even handle some beasts."
Amir said helplessly, "The higher-ups didn’t give me specifics, but the orders have already been sent; New Moon City needs to cooperate immediately."
"All our floating gunships, military drones, Titan mechas, and various heavy firepower equipment have been requisitioned by Hegemony Company, to be shipped immediately to the Celestial Gate Patrol Station."
Sikinkov broke into cold sweat and shot up, "What the hell?! With such a vast armory, doesn’t Hegemony Company have enough military equipment internally, why are they requisitioning ours?!"
Amir looked at him quizzically, "Because we are the metropolis closest to the Celestial Gate Patrol Station, and can provide the fastest support. Of course, Hegemony Company will also mobilize troops, but we need to provide emergency assistance first."
"Why are you so agitated? In an emergency, the major corporations have the right to requisition local government military equipment; it’s written into the World Government’s statutes, haven’t you read it?"
Sikinkov came to his senses, realizing his overreaction as the one with "opened eyes," he calmed his tone, "What I mean is, it’s true that New Moon City is closest to the Celestial Gate Patrol Station and can provide support the fastest, but for the same reason, it’s also the most dangerous."
"With the Celestial Gate Patrol Station fallen, if the beasts rush inland, New Moon City, being closest, is likely to be affected. We need military equipment to protect this city."
Amir was baffled, "Sikinkov, are you sleepy, do you not understand distance?"
"There are 348 kilometers in a straight line from New Moon City to the Celestial Gate Patrol Station, with various hills, mountains, lakes, rivers in between, as well as other small and medium-sized cities, even if the beasts charge inland, they will definitely spread out and can’t directly threaten the safety of New Moon City."
Sikinkov: "But what if? What if the beasts really come?"
Amir: "No what if, where would the what if come from, do you think they installed a GPS in those beasts?"
Sikinkov was left speechless, at a loss for words; he couldn’t possibly bring up Su Mo, he mustn’t betray him.
Even taking a huge step back, even if he spilled the beans, he would just be seen as suffering from job stress-related delusions, those entirely baseless words would not be believed by anyone.
Amir saw Sikinkov’s complexion wasn’t good, taking it as slight nervousness, he comforted gently, "Relax, Sikinkov, I know it’s a bit shocking about the Patrol Station falling, but it’s not our responsibility."
"All we need is to follow the higher-up’s order, transport the military weaponry from our stockpile over, and leave the rest to Hegemony Company, they’ll handle everything."
Sikinkov was tongue-tied, restless.
Objectively, the higher-ups’ orders were correct, Amir’s analysis made sense.
If there’s a problem with the Patrol Station, naturally, support for the Patrol Station comes first, plugging that gap was the priority.
But can it really be plugged?
Su Mo had previously told him that the beasts invading New Moon City was inevitable, that he should find a way to leave some contingencies.
With Su Mo’s "prophecy" just proven accurate once, Sikinkov was no longer confident that Hegemony Company could resolve this easily.
Sikinkov forced himself to calm down, organize his thoughts, and said, "With such orders from the higher-ups, there’s nothing to say, we must comply."
"But I strongly suggest raising the city’s alert level, informing the populace of the situation so they can take precautions."
Amir refused without a thought, "That’s impossible."
Sikinkov questioned, "Why is it impossible?"
Amir: "Are you kidding? The incident occurred at the Celestial Gate Patrol Station, and you want a city several hundred kilometers away to increase its alert level? What’s the point of that?"
Sikinkov: "At least make the situation public, the citizens have a right to know."
Amir looked at him as if he were a fool, "Are you still the Sikinkov I know? Last year’s Rust Wall incident, when rioters broke into the Inner City, who was it that didn’t declare a state of emergency for the city?"
"Who was it that used the Giant Wave Electromagnetic Interference Device to block the network, ordered the online surveillance to pull trending topics, censorship, gag orders, and had entertainment news spread to divert attention?"
"In such an urgent situation at the time, you were able to handle everything systematically. Why are you getting muddled now?"
