Chapter 305: Fight at the Farm (8)
Violet and Luna raced towards the ongoing battle, as they flew they took careful note of the man that was apparently winning against Steelclaw. He wore his usual full plate armour, now adorned with several dents and cuts, yet still whole for the most part.
He was wielding a large two handed sword, its length gleaming with potent enchantments as crimson blood dripped from its edge.
He moved with terrifying speed, dodging a claw strike from the giant wolf, the paw of which was almost as big as his entire body. Yet he showed no strain in evading the foe before him.
After ducking under the paw swipe he lashed out was a rapid counter, his blade cutting deeply into the leg and causing another wave of blood to erupt from the fresh wound.
Steelclaw backed off slightly at that, instead opting to utilise some magic to hold him back.
Her fur rippled before thin strands of it suddenly shot forward towards the man, in response he braced himself then did a powerful upwards swing of his oversized sword. A accompanying arc of intense flames bursting forth, the steel hair that was heading his way simply melted away from the intense heat.
That was when Luna took a step from Violet’s back and appeared behind the man, her sword already swinging down to try and catch him unaware.
Yet the man was a sovereign, and someone of a lower tier does not simply surprise a sovereign when he has his domain out in full force.
Before Luna’s blade was even half way towards him he had already pivoted on his heel, his sword moving with enviable grace as he slashed his sword into Luna’s. Yet he did not simply parry her attack, instead his blade completely shattered the ice blade and sent Luna staggering back from the shear force of the impact.
Violet meanwhile, had decided to stick to magical assistance whilst remaining in the air above. The battleground was already chaotic enough and she didn’t want to get in the way of the two more competent mele combatants, plus she would have a better vantage to fire her spells down from up in the sky.
So a barrage of void bolts and spears rained down on the armoured knights position.
He didn’t even look up at the incoming attacks, instead a barrier of brilliant flames snapped into existence above his head that nullified almost every single one of her attacks.
Yet even the defenses of a sovereign were left somewhat lacking against the power of the void. Whilst the vast majority of her attacks were erased, that was not true for all of them.
A single spear managed to punch through the flame shield, yet even still the knight managed to almost entirely avoid the strike. Instead of skewering the man from head to groin, the spear only managed to scrape along the man’s side, his potent enchantments enough to withstand the slightly weakened void spear.
But that small felt was enough time for Steelclaw to regain her ballence and dive right back into the fray.
Her tail glowed silver as she twisted and lashed out with it towards the man, Luna aided by sending two ice spears flying towards his back. Yet again the man simply ignored the tier 4’s attacks in favour of defending against the sovereigns blow.
A smart choice all things considered, yet potentially a deadly mistake given the nature of lunas’s arctic magics.
He raised his slab of a sword and took the incoming tail whip on the flat of his blade as flames licked along its length. Even when he blocked it he was still sent sliding back a couple of meters, the natural response to a 20 meter long beast slamming into you with full force.
That in turn caused him to slam into the ice spears faster than expected. The icicles shattered upon contact, yet they left behind a think film of ice that stubbornly clung to the armour.
That ice would only spread the more ice attacks landed against the man. Eventually building up to be able to seriously hinder the man’s movements.
Up in the sky Violet began forging runes into the area around the knight, she opted to go for a similar configustion as she used against the red dragon, albeit she could afford to create fewer of them but could instead pour more mana into their creation.
All the while she continued to rain down void spears and beams interspersed with a continual barrage of void bolts.
Violet did not expect her basic magics to truly kill the man, she simply intended to force him to pay some attention to her which would in turn allow her allies to have a touch more freedom in their own clashes.
Like this the fight continued.
Luna and Steelclaw working together on the ground to hem the man in, all the while Violet stayed above the battlefield raining magic down on the man.
Whilst at first the knight managed to maintain his advantage as he battered into both companions with his domain, that advantage slowly shifted to favour the trio of beasts.
Steelclaw extended her own domain to try and aid the girls, meanwhile Violet and Luna once again fused their own presences to somewhat resist the insidious nature of the man’s domain.
Yet they did not get away from the battle scott free.
The sovereign knight would lash out with ruthless efficiency whenever Luna got too close. The intense heat from his flames a powerful counter against Luna’s ice abilities.
Luna rapidly gained new cuts and several burns across her body. The only reason she was even able to survive against the man was in no small thanks due to Steelclaw also intensifying her own offensive.
Even still Luna was rapidly burning through her endurance and mana, given that she had already used up nearly her entire mana pool against the city lord it was a perilous situation. A similar situation was occurring in the air above.
Violet, even with her impressive mana pool was unable maintain such an intensive barrage of spells, particularly after she had just spent a considerable amount of mana during her battle against the red. He runes were also unable to truly deal any significant damage.
Even though the man seemed to be primarily a knight, with magic only assisting him, similar to Luna in that respect. He apparently knew enough about magic to understand the potential danger posed by the runes of nothingness carving themselves into existence around him.
He made sure to send a burst of flames out at any clusters of runes, the heat erasing the void runes instantly and causing Violet bo growl in annoyance.
At the same time she suffered from counter attacks aimed at her, she managed to avoid most given her airway advantage, but even still she suffered from fresh burns matching those she gained against the red.
Still even with these small wins the knight was steadily loosing ground.
New cuts appeared on his armour, blood began flowing from the numerous wounds across his body and his movements had slowed noticeably as the battle progressed.
As if sensing his impending defeat the knight gained a sudden burst of desperate strength, his domain flaired in intensity and his body momentarily blurred forth as he unleashed a devastating slash towards the giant wolf before him.
Half a dozen void barrier appeared in his way, yet they only delayed him for an instant before they shattered like glass. Still that was just enough time for the wolf to begin to react.
Her body glowed silver as she released a soul shaking howl, the mana seemed to slow ever so slightly upon hearing the howl, yet his attack still connected.
A brutal wound appeared down the side of Steelclaw, her massive body being sent flying away to smash into the ground some distance away with a painful crunch.
The knight stood still for a prolonged moment after that strike, his body heaving in air.
Saddly that was exactly what Violet was waiting for.
The world turned purple.
As Violet opened her maw her body emitted a brilliant light, it rose from her chest and spread along her neck, when it reached her mouth raw destruction rushed downwards.
The knight tried to react, he tried to dodge, yet he found his feet frozen to the ground. Such a trick would normally never be enough to hinder a sovereign, yet he was already exhausted and it would take him nearly a second to escape.
He was not given a second.
Purple destruction entirely enveloped his form for several prolonged seconds. Violet strained her body to withstand the terrible force of her breath attack for as long as her tired body could.
Eventually she had to release it and colour once again returned to the world.
In the place that the knight previously stood their was no ground. A 3 meter wide hole had formed digging into the scared earth.
It extended some distance into the earth, its sides were clean as precise as if a clean chunk of solid had simply been erased.
At the bottom of that hole all that remained was a charred and cracked sword.
