Chapter 173: Chapter 134: New Uses for Earth Shield Skill and Giant Shield Charge
After the first target appeared, more and more Bronze Goblins began to emerge.
Lin Mo soon spotted a particularly tall Goblin not far away.
Compared to the Quasi-Bronze Goblins he had killed while clearing out the Goblin Settlement, this one was much taller. Clearly, this was a genuine Bronze Level Goblin Warrior!
’An enemy like this is the perfect opportunity to grind High Level Skills.’
With an increasing number of Skills, he had many to train. The efficiency of killing low-level monsters to raise Skill Levels was too low, so the Skill Level of Lin Mo’s [Sword Storing and Continuous Slash] had not seen much improvement for some time.
And now, it was time for it to take the stage.
Lin Mo moved, activating [Invisibility] and turning invisible once more.
The darkness of the battlefield made it nearly impossible for his [Invisibility] to be detected. Thus, Lin Mo easily slipped behind the Goblin Warrior.
The next moment, he gripped his Black Sword tightly. His Qi and Blood surged as immense Strength rapidly gathered on the blade, and then he slashed out!
[Sword Storing and Continuous Slash]!
The moment he appeared, seven streaks of Sword Qi slashed out in succession, all striking the unsuspecting Bronze Goblin.
In an instant, blood spewed like a fountain. The seven overlapping streaks of Sword Qi directly severed its head!
[Invisibility] Skill Level +20
[Sword Storing and Continuous Slash] Skill Level +20
The Bronze Goblin Warrior’s Threat Level was around Level 3, so it was certainly powerful. Had he faced it head-on, Lin Mo could still have won, but it wouldn’t have been easy; he would have been locked in a struggle for some time at least.
Too bad for the goblin, but he had no intention of observing martial honor with it. ’Who would clash head-on when you can assassinate?’
An Assassin with Warrior Level strength was a completely game-breaking existence. As long as a sneak attack landed, anyone of the same level—aside from a Knight—would be killed in a single blow!
Watching from the side, Shefilya was secretly stunned.
’Looks like he was holding back when he "retaliated" against me before.’
’The power of that skill is something only a Level 3 Warrior using an Excellence Level Skill could unleash!’
"He really killed it!"
The Assassin who had been observing the Goblin Warrior from nearby jumped. When he got a clear look at Lin Mo, the shock he felt was momentarily beyond words.
Until half a minute ago, he had scoffed at Lin Mo’s claims. After all, Lin Mo looked far too young, and his words had been so exaggerated, like a naive kid making empty boasts.
’But now, it seems he really has the strength to back it up!’
’That was a genuine Bronze Level Goblin! And not some squishy class, either—it was a Warrior!’
’If it had been me, I could have only heavily wounded it at best, even going all out. Then I’d have to face its counterattack. One careless slip, and I could’ve been the one killed in an instant...’
’If that’s the case, then the plan this young man mentioned... it might actually work!’
Kill a few more Bronze Goblins, and the mastermind behind them will start to panic.
He quickly withdrew from the battlefield, found his companions, and spread the news.
These Assassins had been working together for several days and had developed a good rapport, so word of what happened spread quickly among them.
The experienced, older Assassin among them immediately made the call to shift their operational focus.
Before long, an Assassin appeared at Lin Mo’s side, informing him of the location of another Bronze Level Goblin.
’So they’re really starting to show up in clusters...’
Lin Mo’s eyes narrowed. ’The Bronze Level Goblins, who rarely took action before, are suddenly flooding the battlefield. Are they really launching an all-out offensive, trying to settle this tonight?’
He nodded and immediately set off in the indicated direction.
Sure enough, he soon spotted his target.
It was another Bronze Level Goblin. It wasn’t as tall as the previous one, but had a broader build and carried a Large Shield, likely looted from some unfortunate Adventurer.
’This must be a Goblin Guard.’
Wasting no time, Lin Mo activated [Invisibility], strode forward, and unleashed a [Sword Storing and Continuous Slash] just as he had before.
This time, however, it wasn’t so easy.
The seven slashes landed on the same spot, creating a bloody mess, but they failed to sever its neck. The Goblin Guard cried out in pain and swung its Shield at Lin Mo.
Lin Mo quickly retreated, dodging the attack. He wasn’t surprised.
’After all, it’s equivalent to a Knight Profession. It’s normal that I couldn’t one-shot it.’
’No matter. If once isn’t enough, I’ll just do it again.’
’Its Defense Power might be high, but that means its Strength and speed are only average. It poses no threat to me at all.’
Lin Mo thrust with his Black Sword. The goblin blocked it with its Shield, but the powerful force of the blow made it lose its balance.
The next moment, he put more force into his blade, activating [Continuous Thrust]. The Sword slid past the Shield, attacking from the flank and leaving another moderately deep, bloody hole in its body.
The Goblin Guard grew fearful and tried to turn and flee, but Lin Mo quickly caught up, launching another barrage of attacks.
The Goblin Guard was hard-pressed to defend itself and couldn’t hold him off. Soon, it was on its last breath.
Only then did Lin Mo activate [Invisibility] again, followed immediately by [Sword Storing and Continuous Slash], which finished it off.
[Invisibility] Skill Level +20
[Sword Storing and Continuous Slash] Skill Level +20
’In just this short time, I’ve earned 40 Skill Level Points for these two skills!’
Lin Mo’s eyes lit up.
[Sword Storing and Continuous Slash], which hadn’t been leveled up in a long time, smoothly reached Level 5.
"Skill [Sword Storing and Continuous Slash] Lv4 (100/100) has Leveled Up!"
"Current Skill: [Sword Storing and Continuous Slash] Lv5 (6/180)"
At the same time, the other Assassins became more active. In addition to observing the battlefield, gathering intelligence, and tracking Goblin movements, their assassinations never ceased.
Their targets expanded from Mutated Goblins to include Quasi-Bronze Level Goblins.
After all, they were Level 3 Assassins. While assassinating a Level 3 Warrior was difficult, if two or three of them worked together, killing targets that were Level 2.5 or lower in one blow was relatively easy.
They hadn’t done so in the past few days, firstly because they were still unclear on the enemy’s situation and had to prioritize scouting. Secondly, they were afraid of tipping their hand and causing the enemy to act desperately, which would only increase the pressure on the front lines.
After all, as long as these high-level Goblin combatants stayed out of the fight and away from the defensive line, they might as well not exist for the defenders, whose sole purpose at the time was to hold the line and protect the town.
Killing more Mutated Goblins was considered a more direct way to help the front lines.
But the situation was different now. After several days of continuous fighting, the Goblin horde was actually growing larger, while Silver Moon Town had suffered heavy losses. They had no choice but to take more drastic measures.
Furthermore, these Bronze Goblins had now joined the assault. If they were allowed to reach the front lines, ordinary soldiers and Adventurers would be completely unable to stop them.
Silver Moon Town had its own experts, of course, like the president of the Adventurer’s Association. If he took action, he could easily kill not just Level 3, but even Level 4 or Level 5 Goblins.
But the front line was long, and the number of experts was limited. Failing to eliminate even one in time would result in devastating losses!
The Goblin offensive grew ever more ferocious.
While dealing with the Bronze Goblins as they were found, Lin Mo didn’t forget to clear out other Goblins along the way.
The battlefield was vast; he couldn’t possibly run all over the place looking for targets by himself.
It was better to leave the searching to others. By staying in one place, he could wait for targets and more easily relay information.
As for the downtime, he naturally used it to practice his other Skills.
[Ice Cone Skill]!
He had already put on the Secret Silver Gloves. The power of the Ice Element gathered in Lin Mo’s hands, forming an Ice Cone that shot forward.
There was no need to aim. A casual flick of his wrist could reap the lives of two or three Goblins.
A scene this densely packed with Goblins was perfect for practicing Magic.
While his left hand launched one [Ice Cone Skill] after another, his right hand wasn’t idle. He held his Black Sword, occasionally using [Backstab] or [Shadow Assault] as the situation permitted to raise the Skill Level of these two New Skills.
Shefilya, who had been on the sidelines, stopped watching the show and joined the battle—or rather, the slaughter.
With a Flying Knife in each hand, her attacks were crisp and decisive, without a single wasted motion. Like an elegant dancer, she weaved through the Goblin Army, each strike aimed at a vital point.
Compared to Lin Mo, Shefilya was clearly the true Assassin.
Lin Mo’s combo was more like a brute-force kill from stealth.
As his Magic Power was consumed, the Skill Level of his Ice Cone Skill steadily grew.
’I’ll get this skill to Full Level first,’ Lin Mo planned, ’evolve it, and get the bonus.’
"Skill [Ice Cone Skill] Lv3 (40/40) has Leveled Up!"
"Current Skill: [Ice Cone Skill] Lv4 (0/100)"
’Great, it leveled up! Just one more level until this skill can evolve.’
’But I won’t be able to get the 100 Skill Level points for this last level today...’
It wasn’t a matter of limited Magic Power; in fact, Lin Mo still had plenty. The problem was that he had more difficult fights ahead and had to remain in peak condition. Continuing to use Magic at such a high frequency would inevitably affect his Spirit.
’So, I’ll stop training [Ice Cone Skill] here for now.’
However, Lin Mo had another idea...
Using the effect of the Secret Silver Gloves, he output an extra 20% Magic Power to create an enlarged [Earth Shield Skill].
Then, holding this large shield in his left hand, Lin Mo abruptly charged forward.
[Giant Shield Charge]!
With a series of loud collisions, the Goblins in his path were sent flying by the immense impact, killed instantly without a doubt.
[Earth Shield Skill] Skill Level +15
[Giant Shield Charge] Skill Level +15
That one charge killed a dozen Goblins and sent a Mutated Goblin flying as well.
’Holy shit, that feels amazing!’
Lin Mo looked at the [Earth Shield Skill]. It had dimmed considerably but hadn’t disappeared. He felt this was even more exhilarating than driving Ali.
’And from the looks of this Earth Shield, I should be able to use it one more time...’
