Chapter 88: Chapter 88 Seeing Mother and Son_1

Lin Xiaoyu looked at Qin Sisi, stuttering, "Sisi, are you sure everything you just said is true?"

Qin Sisi looked up at Lin Xiaoyu’s shocked gaze and said somewhat disappointed, "Do you still not believe me after all this time?"

Lin Xiaoyu quickly shook his head and said: "No, it’s not that I don’t believe you. It’s just that all of this is a bit unbelievable."

As he spoke, Lin Xiaoyu gave a bitter smile. The events of the past few days had exceeded his comprehension, and his worldview was literally being turned upside down.

Qin Sisi fell silent then said, "If you don’t believe me, you couldn’t help. Just tell me the location, and I’ll go myself."

Lin Xiaofang sent a significant look to her brother and persuaded, "Xiaoyu, the paths in the village can be tricky, and Sisi is unfamiliar with them. You’d better accompany her." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Lin Xiaofang, who did not attend college and had never left the village, held a certain reverence for the ancient truths. Thus, she found it easier to believe Qin Sisi. Also, as his sister who had grown up with him, Lin Xiaofang could see Lin Xiaoyu’s feelings for Qin Sisi and wanted them to spend more time together.

Lin Xiaoyu took a penetrating look at Qin Sisi, pondering over everything that had happened since he met her. He had to admit that some things indeed couldn’t be explained with science.

Finally, Lin Xiaoyu said, "I’ll go with you then. Today is the weekend, so he should be at home."

"Thank you." Qin Sisi responded in a flat tone and didn’t say more.

If Lin Xiaoyu had not mentioned it, Qin Sisi had entirely forgotten that it was the weekend. She lost track of the days since she resigned from her job.

In retrospect, it would indeed be more convenient to visit Zhao Xiaopeng on weekends. If they disrupted a school day, the pandemonium of children could cause trouble.

Lin Xiaoyu let out a sigh and said, "You don’t have to thank me. You’ve helped me greatly twice already. I should at least do this small favor for you."

Qin Sisi’s eyes flickered, but she held her peace. Sometimes, absolute silence is better than indecision.

After breakfast, Lin Xiaofang stayed back to look after their mother, while Lin Xiaoyu left the house with Qin Sisi.

The paths in the village were indeed challenging. They curled and wound circuitously, which made Qin Sisi secretly relieved to have Lin Xiaoyu leading the way. Without his guidance, knowing the location wouldn’t have helped her find the place at all.

After approximately fifteen minutes, they took another turn. Lin Xiaoyu pointed ahead and said, "We’re almost there; it’s just up ahead."

Qin Sisi nodded and looked ahead. All the houses in the village were very similar, suggesting they were developed according to a master plan.

At that moment, a group of six or seven-year-old boys came bounding over. As they raced, they shouted loudly, appearing to be engrossed in a mock battle.

Lin Xiaoyu halted his steps and pointed to a boy in a blue coat. "That’s Zhao Xiaopeng, let me call him over for you."

"Wait." Qin Sisi halted Lin Xiaoyu and then lowered her gaze to Ye You, who was in her arms.

Ye You waved a claw, and a white figure shot out. Once it settled on the ground, it transformed into Mrs. Wang Luo, dressed in coarse clothes.

Perhaps it was the mother-son connection that transcended time. Even though a thousand years had passed and the soul had been reincarnated several times, Mrs. Wang Luo recognized the chubby child as Zhao Xiaopeng instantly. She filled with joy and sadness, and tears flowed like a river.

Qin Sisi was affected by Mrs. Wang Luo’s sadness. However, she was puzzled. Aren’t ghosts supposed to be scared of sunlight? Why isn’t Mrs. Wang Luo afraid during such bright daylight?

Obviously, Lin Xiaoyu couldn’t see Mrs. Wang Luo’s ghost. Seeing Qin Sisi’s gaze fixed on empty space, he couldn’t help asking in bewilderment, "Sisi, what are you looking at?"

Qin Sisi looked at Lin Xiaoyu and candidly said, "I told you earlier, I came here to let a ghost have a look at Zhao Xiaopeng."

Lin Xiaoyu’s face changed, and he asked nervously, "Is the ghost around here right now?"

"Yes," Qin Sisi answered straightforwardly.

Lin Xiaoyu opened his mouth, wanting to say something but felt a chill down his spine. After a while, he said, "My cousin’s house, Zhao Xiaopeng’s house, is just ahead. Do you want to come rest there with me?"

Qin Sisi shook her head and said, "No need. I’d better stay with them to prevent any unexpected occurrences."

She paused, then continued, "You should go to your cousin’s house. I’ll find you once I’m done."

Lin Xiaoyu was still hesitant when Zhao Xiaopeng spotted his cousin from the city and came bounding over. "Uncle, you’re back! Are you going to my house?" he yelled.

Lin Xiaoyu smiled and replied, "Yes, I’ve come to see if you’ve been behaving and studying hard."

Zhao Xiaopeng let out a wail before noticing Qin Sisi standing beside Lin Xiaoyu. His eyes lit up as he asked Lin Xiaoyu, "Uncle, who’s she? Is she your girlfriend?"

Feeling awkward, Lin Xiaoyu glanced at Qin Sisi before saying, "No, she’s a friend of mine who’s here to... experience life. Besides, she brought some gifts for you guys."

Before Qin Sisi could react, the group of boys flooded around her, their mouths babbling, "A gift? What gift? Can we see it? Is it this cat?"

Startled, Qin Sisi clutched Ye You tightly, afraid that the playful rascals would take Ye You away as a plaything.

However, she was worried over nothing. How could these kids catch Ye You, who could easily shake them off with a single leap?

Lin Xiaoyu slipped a hundred yuan bill into her hands, whispering, "Take them to the store and buy some snacks and toys. They’ll stick around you the whole time, which will allow the ghost to spend more time with her child."

Qin Sisi gave Lin Xiaoyu a grateful look, returned the money, and said, "There’s no need for that; you’ve already helped me a lot."

Then, she turned around, and in a clear voice, said to the children, "Of course, the gift is at the store. Let’s go and buy it now. Everyone who comes will get one. Xiao Peng, would you guide the way for me?"

Qin Sisi’s bright eyes looked at the chubby Zhao Xiaopeng who froze for a second before asking, "How do you know my name?"

Qin Sisi’s eyes twinkled as she said, "Your uncle told me. He also said that you’re an intelligent child. If you study well, in the future, you could go to the big city, just like him."

A glint of longing appeared in Zhao Xiaopeng’s eyes. He grinned and nodded, responding, "Sister, let’s go. I’ll guide you to the store."

Sister? Lin Xiaoyu swallowed a gasp. A bit too much of a difference to call him uncle and her sister!

The kids had no time to care about Lin Xiaoyu’s resentful gaze. A ragtag group of boys of various heights and weights, short and tall, plump and thin, cheered and crowded around Qin Sisi, heading off in the direction of the store.

Next to them, an invisible ghost moved with them, her tearful face filled with deep affection and love.
