Chapter 76: Chapter 76 A Name That Can Fill The Stomach_1
Qin Sisi asked gently, "Little ghost, what is your name?"
The young man glared at Qin Sisi and said angrily, "Why are you asking so many questions? If you want to destroy me, just go ahead."
Qin Sisi asked curiously, "Why would I want to destroy you?"
The young man jutted his chin out and replied, "Since you can see me, you must be a mage, right? Mages get rid of ghosts of course, two mages have already come to try and failed. I didn’t expect to be caught by you today."
The young man seemed very unhappy.
According to what the young man was insinuating, abnormal incidents must have been detected at this restaurant. Mages had been invited to exorcise the ghosts, but they had failed, allowing the young man to escape.
Qin Sisi could tell that the young man, while skinny, was very witty. If not for Ye You’s quick reaction earlier, they might have lost him.
Qin Sisi patted his shoulder and said, "Don’t worry, I’m not a mage, and I’m not here to destroy you."
The young man looked at Qin Sisi suspiciously and asked, "Then why did you catch me?"
Qin Sisi thought for a moment and said, "First, answer my question. What is your name?"
Qin Sisi didn’t directly mention her intention of acquiring Soul Power. She was suddenly intrigued by this smart young man. She felt that the more she knew about him, the more likely she’d find out why he became a ghost in the living world. It might be easier to negotiate with him later.
The young man seemed a bit reluctant but felt that the woman in front of him meant no harm, so he reluctantly said, "Gao Liang."
"What?" Qin Sisi couldn’t quite believe her ears.
The young man raised his voice saying, "My name is Gao Liang." He deliberately stressed the last two words.
Qin Sisi opened her mouth in surprise. She heard correctly. His name was Gao Liang, a very interesting name indeed.
Feeling intrigued, Qin Sisi asked, "Why are you named Gao Liang?"
Gao Liang seemed a bit impatient but still replied patiently, "My family’s surname is Gao, and my parents gave me a food-related name, hoping that I would never lack grains in the future and have a full belly."
"Oh..." Qin Sisi suddenly understood. His name was no longer intriguing to her but a kind of profound beauty. In those tough times when food, clothing, and everyday essentials were scarce, it must have been the most beautiful wish one could have for their child.
Qin Sisi smiled and asked, "So, did you ever have a full stomach?"
Gao Liang rolled his eyes and replied, "Of course not, if I had, would I still be here?"
Qin Sisi paused for a moment as if she had guessed something, she asked in a low voice, "How did you die?"
"Starved to death." Gao Liang’s tone was careless, apparently, he had come to terms with the fact that he starved to death many years ago.
Looking into Gao Liang’s bright eyes, Qin Sisi felt somewhat saddened. In the country where she resided now, such incidents were basically non-existent. However, there was indeed a time in the past when wars and famines occurred simultaneously. Natural and man-made disasters overlapped, and there were not a few people starved to death.
However, what puzzled Qin Sisi was that starving to death wasn’t a true accidental death. The spiritual resentment of people who starve to death isn’t usually strong. They generally follow the Messenger of Death to leave, going to the underworld to wait for their next reincarnation.
So, why did Gao Liang’s ghost stay in the living world?
Just as Qin Sisi was about to ask her question, Gao Liang suddenly muttered, "Can you let me go first?"
Only then did Qin Sisi realize that Gao Liang had been tied up by Ye You’s golden rope all this time. She glanced at Ye You, then said to Gao Liang, "I can let you go. But you have to promise not to run away."
With a twinkle in his eyes, Gao Liang nodded and said, "Okay, I promise."
Worried that Gao Liang might renege on his promise, Qin Sisi pointed at Ye You and said, "My cat is very powerful. If you run again, it will be more than just tying you up."
Although he didn’t fully believe her, Gao Liang still curiously turned his head to look at Ye You. When his eyes met Ye You’s deep purple ones, he suddenly felt a powerful pressure, as if a tsunami was about to engulf him.
Gao Liang was startled and quickly turned his head back. It seemed that this cat was not as simple as it seemed. He decided to wait for now before trying to escape again and find out what this woman was up to.
Qin Sisi asked Ye You to release Gao Liang from the golden rope. Gao Liang immediately stretched his arms and legs, relieving his body after being tied up for so long.
Qin Sisi watched him and asked, "Did the Messenger of Death come to find you before?"
Gao Liang tilted his head thoughtfully and said, "When I first died, I think someone wearing a black cloak came to find me. They asked me to go with them."
The person wearing a black cloak should be the Messenger of Death. So, the Messenger of Death did come before.
Qin Sisi asked again, "Why didn’t you go with him?"
Gao Liang said casually, "I was about to go with him when I suddenly smelled a delicious aroma of roast meat, which made me drool. So, I didn’t go with him and followed the aroma instead."
Qin Sisi was left speechless. Such a simple and crude reason. She couldn’t help but ask, "Did you find the roast meat?"
Gao Liang grimaced and said dejectedly, "I found it, but I couldn’t eat it."
"Why?" Qin Sisi was extremely curious. He had given up the opportunity to reincarnate just for this roast meat, so why couldn’t he eat it?
Gao Liang answered disappointedly, "It turned out that it wasn’t roast meat. A house had caught on fire and burned the people inside. That’s why there was a smell of roast meat."
Qin Sisi was stunned. She felt a churn in her stomach. It was indeed roasted meat, but unfortunately, it was human flesh.
Seeing Qin Sisi’s stiff expression, Gao Liang secretly pulled a face, then asked Qin Sisi, "We’ve been talking for a while, but you haven’t told me your name yet?"
Regaining her composure, Qin Sisi replied with a curve of her lips, "My name is Qin Sisi."
Gao Liang’s voice was as crisp as a lotus root just scooped out from the water, "Oh, Sister Sisi, can you finally tell me what you want from me?"
Qin Sisi paused before clearly saying, "I’m currently collecting Soul Power. I hope you can offer your Soul Power to me, and in return, I can help you fulfil a wish."
Taken aback, Gao Liang stepped back in fear and said gloomily, "But won’t that result in my soul scattering into oblivion?"
Qin Sisi quickly explained, "Temporarily, it will. But I know a way to rebuild your soul. After a hundred years, you can reincarnate."
Gao Liang’s eyes flickered as he asked doubtfully, "Are you telling the truth?"
Qin Sisi nodded firmly, "Absolutely."
Qin Sisi’s eyes were filled with sincerity as she looked at Gao Liang. Yet, Gao Liang still had some doubts, his expression unsure, and he fell silent.
