Chapter 894: Chapter 674: The Difference Between Ordinary People and Powerhouses_2
"So, you won?"
"Of course not. If I had won, wouldn’t he just continue to serve as my guard?"
"You lost then?"
"How could I?"
"That is..."
"It was basically a draw between us. I didn’t use my full strength, and he held back too. Overall, I had the upper hand. However, since it was a draw, I had to acknowledge that he was, to an extent, my equal in strength. And so, as equals, I couldn’t keep him as a guard, which is why he left."
Saint Jialin and August looked at each other, dumbfounded.
How could that decision be so casual! With the terrifying strength of Long Yi, wherever he went he would be a great disaster! Not to mention, what if an enemy nation recruited him? That would be terrible!
"However, it’s a pity I couldn’t find more of his weaknesses," Ai Lin said.
"No matter, it’s just that Miss Ai Lin has had quite the hardship," Saint Jialin hastily said, as by now Ai Lin had become the only trump card of the Divine Auffa Empire. It was essential to maintain good relations.
"It wasn’t hard, but based on Long Yi’s character, I thought he definitely wouldn’t just leave like that. I believe he must be up to something!" Ai Lin said.
"Get revenge on us?"
Saint Jialin asked anxiously.
"How could he? What grievances does he have with you?"
Ai Lin gave Saint Jialin a dismissive glance.
"Then what you’re saying Long Yi would do something about..."
"Long Yi didn’t win against me, so in the future he will certainly look for a way to beat me once. Just that I don’t know when and in what manner he’ll try to win against me."
These words from Ai Lin greatly relieved Saint Jialin and August. Although it was regrettable that Long Yi had left, as long as he hadn’t turned into an enemy, there were no issues. Furthermore, since Long Yi was gone, at least they didn’t need to worry about him suddenly turning hostile.
At this time, Long Yi was drinking alone in a tavern on some planet, his face showing various signs of dissatisfaction, making it clear to everyone that he was in a foul mood. Then, a short figure quietly approached.
"Big brother, may I sit with you?"
Long Yi glanced at the other person and grunted affirmatively through his nose.
The short figure immediately took a seat with glee, ordered two large cups, gave one to Long Yi, and kept one for himself.
"Big brother, you seem to be in a bad mood. I’m the best at telling jokes. Let me tell you one, okay?"
Another grunt came from Long Yi’s nose.
"Ahem, the joke goes like this. There was an emperor in this empire who looked down on everything, always believing that his own empire was the strongest. He recruited mages from the Sanctuary with huge sums of gold, and those ignorant mages deceived the emperor with their language, causing him to make wrong judgments. One day, the emperor offended a very powerful adversary. The Sanctuary mages were successively defeated, and even the emperor himself almost died. That’s when the emperor realized that those so-called Sanctuary mages were just a bunch of swindlers, and it was the enemy who had defeated the Sanctuary mages who were the real powerhouses. So, the emperor decided to do whatever it took to gain the understanding of the powerhouse, and if the powerhouse would join his empire, he would fulfill all of the powerhouse’s demands! Haha, big brother, don’t you think this emperor is laughable?"
At this point, all traces of displeasure had vanished from Long Yi’s face, replaced by a hint of amusement.
"Kid, you’ve got quite the nerve, daring to make fun of me?" Long Yi said in a low voice.
"Of course not, it’s just a joke..." It was clear that the short figure was nervous, even slightly trembling as he spoke.
"However, your joke has really piqued my interest," Long Yi said, putting down the large mug, "I had thought you people were following me for days just to say something, but this is it, huh?"
The short figure didn’t say anything, just gave a silly giggle.
"So, I have a question for you. If the powerhouse is already so strong, why would he join the emperor’s empire?" Long Yi asked.
"Because as a powerhouse, one should naturally do things that powerhouses ought to do, and some minor matters should be left to those who serve the powerhouse. And the emperor is willing to be one who serves the powerhouse... of course, as long as the powerhouse can occasionally help the emperor with some minor issues," the short figure said cautiously.
"But I still think that this won’t be enough to sway the powerhouse," Long Yi shook his head.
"The emperor guarantees that any wish the powerhouse has will be fulfilled, and moreover, there won’t be any ungrateful little girl going against the powerhouse!"
As soon as the short figure said this, a terrifying pressure descended upon the tavern. Everyone inside looked toward Long Yi with fear, while the short figure sitting opposite Long Yi felt as if he had gone blind in front of his eyes!
But, the pressure was gone in an instant.
"I think, the powerhouse isn’t interested," Long Yi said, shaking his head.
Seeing this, the short figure could only show a face of helplessness and dejection. He dared not say another word, as it could very well cost him his life. However, just as he was about to leave, a force pulled him directly into Long Yi’s grasp.
"No, I’ve changed my mind. I suddenly think you make a lot of sense!"
Excitement immediately lit up the short figure’s face.
"So, Lord Long Yi, you agree then..."
