Chapter 808: Chapter 633: The Powerful Golem
The unprecedented power of that shot made it clear to both commanders that any subtlety would be futile. These golems were incredibly powerful, and at this point, it was nearly impossible for either side to have any effective means to deal with them. However, they also noticed that the golems had not shown further hostility, and many were observing their surroundings, seemingly very unfamiliar and puzzled by the environment.
Puzzled!
What did that imply?
Intelligence!
The golems possessed intelligence!
In ancient history, intelligent golems had briefly appeared but were eventually abandoned because the creators feared the golems’ potential to surpass their makers. But not all had stopped!
Having intelligence meant that communication was possible!
Soon, the warriors from both sides began to retreat, and then, from a distance, the commanders from each faction stepped forward.
"Mighty golems!"
One of the commanders took the initiative to speak.
Almost at the same time, all the golems turned their heads to look at that commander.
Feeling the intense gaze of the group of golems, the commander’s scalp tingled.
"Can you understand my language?"
The commander continued, despite feeling uneasy.
Intentionally taking heavy steps, the Golem that housed the Darkness Saintess took two steps forward, and its light cannon retracted into its arm, reforming into a hand.
"Yes, I can,"
A low, metallic clanging voice echoed, a sound that had been modified because the Darkness Saintess did not want her naturally soft voice to undermine the intimidating impact.
The commander was overjoyed; the enemy had disarmed, which meant they had no hostility!
"May I ask which great Mage summoned you? Who is your master?"
The commander continued to ask.
The Darkness Saintess pondered for a moment, obviously, the other side had assumed their presence was the result of a summoning, and golems necessarily had masters.
"That’s a secret,"
The Darkness Saintess answered. She did not wish to reveal that she was not summoned, nor did she want to expose Long Yi’s name; the word ’secret’ had many implications, enough to provoke deep thought.
Indeed, the commander nodded. The word secret carried great weight, clearly indicating that the Mage must be very powerful, yet did not want to reveal themselves.
"Then, what is your mission?" another commander interjected to ask.
This was a question of great concern to both commanders.
"To find a person,"
The Darkness Saintess said.
"Who?"
The impatient commander pressed for an answer.
"A secret."
Again a secret!
The summoning must have included some mistake, leading these golems to appear where they were not supposed to. But who could they be searching for that required such formidable combat power?
"Then where is the person you are searching for?"
The first speaking commander asked.
"I don’t know, we have appeared in the wrong location,"
The Darkness Saintess answered; she was not lying, as they had hoped to appear directly beside Long Yi, which was not the case. They had indeed appeared in the wrong location.
"If possible, then, please allow us to help you!"
The commander directly put forth his offer.
"You? How can you help us?"
The Darkness Saintess almost immediately understood what the commander meant, and the group of girls piloting the massive golems snickered, but the Darkness Saintess continued to play her part.
"Please join our military forces, and we will provide whatever you need. Whether it is metal or energy, we will supply it to you without reservation, and all you need to do is help us defeat some enemies,"
The commander said with his heart racing, knowing that if these golems nodded in agreement, the battle might end in an instant!
Almost simultaneously, another commander shouted, "No! Don’t trust those despicable people! He’s just a Commander and can’t make such decisions! So they can’t possibly keep their promises! So join our army instead! Just now I have reported this matter to our Emperor, and they have agreed to establish a special maintenance committee to care for you. We will provide anything you need, regardless of the materials or anything else. Also, if you fight for us, we will provide additional rewards after every battle!"
Immediately, the commanders began to argue fiercely, accusing each other and trying to prove that their side was the better choice to join.
"I am grateful for your invitation, but I cannot join either side of you; we cannot serve a second master," the Darkness Saintess said.
Both commanders were taken aback.
"However, we need fine gold," the Darkness Saintess continued, "So, if you can provide us with some fine gold, we may offer you some limited assistance—until our master summons us again, or until we find the person we are searching for."
This was a mercenary agreement!
Both commanders went crazy.
Indeed, these golems could be so easily managed with just a simple offer!
"Fine Gold! Report it to the Emperor at once! Gather enough fine gold immediately to the front lines!"
