Chapter 806: Chapter 632 Let’s Go!
The number of battleships from the Azure Sky Empire was increasing, yet the new captain hesitated to give the order to attack. On his own flagship were observers from various Families, whose key members were held hostage on the Giant Beast planet below. Should an attack commence, neither the Imperial Family nor these Family members could permit long-range bombardments from the battleships. And if ground troops were sent, those brave soldiers would stand no chance against the enraged Giant Beasts.
This placed the newly appointed captain in a difficult predicament. He was ordered to come here with clear instructions from His Majesty the Emperor: rescue the Crown Prince and Princess at all costs. The captain knew all too well the Emperor would rather have those two embarrassing fools die right here. But that was unacceptable, for it was a matter of Imperial face. To die, they needed to do so gloriously, not here on this forsaken planet.
So-called glorious sacrifice could include dying under the fire of battleship cannons. The captain had been prepared for this, but now the observers from the wealthy noble Families were watching every move. These Families understood the cold-blooded intentions of the Emperor all too well, but while he could afford to sacrifice his Crown Prince and Princess gloriously, he could not expect the same for their Family members.
This was an absolute no.
And so, the captain found himself in a bind.
Fight? No!
Flee? Even less so!
It was then that a sudden report came from below. The Giant Beasts were entering the captured warships in groups, and the hostages were also being divided among different spaceships!
Were the Giant Beasts planning to leave?
This realization almost made the captain laugh aloud.
On the ground, we’re no match. But once you enter those warships, it’s like you’re caged, and you know nothing of space battles!
"Let them go, and as soon as their warships ascend, destroy their weapons systems with the utmost speed and strive to capture them all alive!"
The captain felt his heart pounding fiercely. Indeed, if the Giant Beasts remained on the ground, there might be nothing he could do. But should they leave the ground, entering space, it wouldn’t be their world anymore!
The previously oppressive atmosphere inside the battleship dissipated as the standoff with the Giant Beasts finally reached a turning point. The captain felt so tense his hands were almost shaking.
Finally, the warships on the ground began to take off one by one.
"Prepare!"
The captain gave the order loudly.
However, at that moment, all the warships carrying the Giant Beasts fled in different directions!
What was their intent?
All the warships powered up to full throttle, each flying off in a different direction. If they were trying to escape, such a strategy was utterly foolish, wasn’t it? Their number of ships was already low; if they wanted to break through, they should have stayed together. Spreading out like this, they’d quickly be taken down one by one!
Wait a minute!
Could it be the Giant Beasts were the most desperate ones to escape?
The captain suddenly realized he might have made a mistake. These Giant Beasts were not native to this planet; they had been captured from other planets, which meant they might not be suited to it. Perhaps they were without food, unable to rest, or for some other reason, but the Giant Beasts wanted to leave!
Or rather, they were eager to escape, choosing the most foolish method of getaway.
"All warships deploy! Spread out and capture them all! Remember! Destroy the weapon systems on their ships first! Then I want them alive—let them spend a few days in space. I don’t believe those Giant Beasts can use weapons, but better safe than sorry."
High above in the sky, hundreds of warships dispersed and pursued the suspects in different directions, while the captain’s own flagship stayed in the rear. After the last incident involving a captured captain, this new captain was well aware that as a Commander, his job was to command from the rear, not recklessly rush to the front.
Soon enough, the intercepting warships began to successively stop some of the fleeing ships. After destroying the weapon systems of a few, they were surprised to find that there were no people on those ships at all!
Some warships sent people to investigate, only to discover that the ships had been pre-set with a course, unmanned from the start!
"Where are the Giant Beasts? And the hostages?" bellowed the captain.
The Giant Beasts and hostages seen earlier had vanished without a trace, as if they were never there.
"Damn, we’ve been tricked."
Clearly, there was no such thing as ’disperse and escape.’ Though no one knew how the Queen of the Giant Beasts managed it, those beasts had to be on one single ship!
Where?
Where is she?
In the sky, the fleeing warships were one by one left behind, and now, only one ship remained, still flying into the distance—the one farthest from them!
Yes! To escape, they would surely choose the furthest one!
Onboard that ship, Isrile stood on the bridge, watching the fleet chasing from behind as the huge Array spun and expelled lethal beams of light. Meanwhile, the captain was intensely manning the helm, dodging the deadly beams over and over.
In the rear chamber of the bridge, rows of mini Giant Beasts, only a little over two meters tall, were lined up. Having signed a contract with Isrile, these Beasts could rest just like the Dragon Clan, and could also be summoned from a short distance. It was this ability that Isrile relied on to fool the other side.
