Chapter 574: Chapter 455 - Scared? Impossible!
Afraid?
When Long Yi first heard this word, he instinctively wanted to laugh it off.
Me? Long Yi, scared? How is that possible!
However, upon further reflection, Long Yi discovered a possibility that he himself found hard to believe.
Maybe, I really am afraid.
Long Yi’s confidence was founded on his assessment of the enemy’s and his own strength. He wasn’t afraid of a powerful enemy because no matter how strong, every enemy has a limit.
As a great writer once said, ’Humans fear the unknown.’
An enemy whose nature is unknown is the most terrifying. And when this enemy has an obvious advantage, this fear is amplified manifold.
Every normal creature has fears, a self-protective instinct that helps any creature avoid harm.
To acknowledge and conquer this fear is what separates higher beings from lower ones.
"Yes, I think, maybe I really am scared."
Long Yi sighed and said.
"I defeated that enemy, but it was just a scout. It didn’t even have any heavy weapons. It was just like a farmer checking on a ripening orchard. Yet just that scout nearly cost a full-strength Giant its life. If I claim not to be even a little afraid, I think I would be heartless. If a mere scout is so formidable, what do we do if their army suddenly shows up? Can we win with just the Giant? In that moment, I was a bit lost."
At this point, Long Yi burst out laughing.
"And now?" Kirei didn’t laugh, instead he asked solemnly.
"Now that I’ve identified the problem, I will confront my fear. This situation has made me behave not like myself, which is wrong."
"So, do you remember what your goal is now?"
"I remember!" Long Yi exclaimed excitedly.
"What is it? Tell me!"
"Eat!"
"Sleep!"
"Conquer!"
Upon leaving the Imperial Palace, Long Yi felt rejuvenated. Indeed, a master of jesters, the conversations with him can truly cure all ailments!
Actually, Long Yi had realized this issue quite early on, but he needed someone to talk about it.
He couldn’t discuss it with Ai Lin and the others. They’d only worry more about him upon hearing it, and they might even get scared. There was also male chauvinism at play. Long Yi had always acted tough in front of them. This was not the time to show any cracks; Long Yi couldn’t talk to Wesley and his team either, for they had no clue about the multitude of secrets he was guarding.
The only one he could talk to was Kirei.
Kirei knew Long Yi’s secrets, and he wouldn’t worry about him.
Once he let it out, Long Yi felt immediately relieved. He headed straight to the Royal Research Institute, as there was a lot to be done that day.
Recovering and restoring the Golem was challenging and complicated. Many in the Institute were tearing their hair out. However, it was needless to feel sorry for the researchers. They were like wolves at the sight of fresh meat, the harder the problem, the more they were driven. Long Yi took a peek in the research room, knew that it would take a while for any progress to be made, and left.
This time, Long Yi was here to discuss certain matters with Dean Ma Deburg and Dean Angidd.
"Honourable Deans, if I were to say that I want to build some airships, what do you think of its feasibility?" Long Yi asked.
"Airships?" Both Deans exchanged glances.
"If you wish to use airships as a platform for battle, I suggest you give up that thought. Even if we restore ancient airships, they lack decent protective measures and are not very agile in the air—though they are quite fast." Dean Angidd pointed out.
"I agree, and constructing an airship requires a lot of crystal cores. With that many crystals cores, it would be better to build more Molten Beasts and armored soldiers." Dean Ma Deburg added.
"No, no, I don’t plan to use airships for battle. I need airships for transportation. Think about it, large airships on standby 24-hours a day, ready to transport our soldiers to any corner of the battlefield. How exciting! How stimulating!" Long Yi said, eyes wide open, to the two Deans.
"Extravagantly building airships just to transport soldiers? Isn’t that a bit lavish?" Dean Angidd remarked.
"Not lavish at all! In the previous battle, our ground troops greatly appreciated the support from the air force. But while the Giant Dragons can fly and quickly reach the battlefield, the ground soldiers cannot. This prevents us from creating a combined air-ground advantage at will. With airships, however, we can have Dragon Knights and armored soldiers on the battlefield at the same time, an advantage the enemy does not have. The massive tactical advantage leading to victory might potentially dictate the outcome of a war."
Ma Deburg and Angidd sat quietly, listening. While Long Yi’s statement seemed reasonable, they still had a nagging feeling that the plan wasn’t entirely foolproof.
