Chapter 451: Chapter 343 Finally Graduated!
Dwarves love to be praised, even more than most sentient beings.
If you compliment an elf and they agree with your praise, they will simply say thank you. If they disagree, they will straightforwardly tell you that you’ve praised them wrongly.
This is one of the reasons why most people regard elves as difficult to get along with.
However, dwarves are different, they will accept a compliment with glee at any time.
Truthfully, when Long Yi appeared, the dwarves were quite worried. Although Long Yi had always been helping the dwarves and even held the position of a dwarven elder, his true nature was still that of a human. If Long Yi really took the side of the humans, the dwarves could only listen. Regardless of whether as a dwarf elder or purely from a human perspective, in regards to the recent upheaval, the humans didn’t really do anything wrong fundamentally, the dwarves were merely discontented.
However, Long Yi, instead of immediately mediating between the two sides, waited a few days, identified three spies from the Black Dragon Empire, and blamed all the wrongdoings on these spies of the Black Dragon Empire, which made the dwarves very happy.
No one really wanted the chaos to continue, but most of the time, dwarves simply couldn’t control their bad mouths and tempers. If a problem arises and no one sees it, it’s fine, but once it catches someone’s attention and gets stirred up, they inflate the situation even more. Essentially, these spies only played an inciting role, and the ones who really caused trouble were the dwarves themselves. But Long Yi pushed all the responsibility of this matter onto the spies, without questioning the dwarves at all, leaving the dwarves feeling delighted and somewhat ashamed, let alone blaming anyone else.
That night, Long Yi, in accordance with the original plan, held a feast for all the dwarves, and also gave the people sent by the White Dragon Empire a few words of advice, telling them to just put up with the dwarves’ bad temper.
Watching the storm abate so easily, Morton was naturally pleased. However, Long Yi was somewhat dissatisfied. The spies from the Black Dragon Empire were just about everywhere, their shadows could be found in any problematic situation. It was a good thing that he hadn’t handed over the golem to the dwarves, otherwise wouldn’t it have been exposed?
That said, in reality, there were also many spies from the White Dragon Empire. Whenever something happened in the Black Dragon Empire, Kirei could always get the news very quickly. All countries in the world were like this, any slightly powerful country would wish to have everything about others under its control.
As autumn came to an end and winter arrived, the winter break finally came.
When Long Yi walked out of the examination room, under everyone’s gaze, he finally let out a triumphant shout.
"I’ve graduated!"
Yes, Long Yi, after countless days of battling reams of exam papers, finally graduated. That means, from this day on, Long Yi could officially join the army.
Generally, according to the formal process, a graduating Dragon Knight could apply to any Dragon Rider Legion they fancy, and then the Legion would decide whether to accept them based on their individual scores, and usual behavior. Moreover, if accepted, there would still be a period of training and evaluation. Only after a series of battles would it be determined whether one was qualified to be a Dragon Knight. But Long Yi didn’t need that hassle, being already a reservist of the Third Legion, he could directly report to the Third Legion.
Seeing Long Yi leaving the examination room, Wesley and Chef Mosquito exchanged sly glances. Because half a month ago, these three had also successfully graduated. With Chef and Zhu Na’s connections, the Fourth Legion naturally extended an olive branch to them. However, they didn’t make a decision because they were waiting for Long Yi’s choice.
"Oh my, so Brother Long, you can graduate as well? I thought it might drag on for half a year!" Wesley immediately teased.
"I guess the examiner gave a hand? Brother Long is only good at hard punches, can’t deal with exams at all!" Chef made an exaggerated expression on his face.
"It’s possible, I heard that the examiner this time was a woman." Mosquito casually stated.
"Oh! A woman! No wonder!" Wesley continued, "Brother Long does not limit his charms to species, even not limited to matter!"
Looking at the three of them, Long Yi didn’t even have the strength to hit them. The final exam was so hard that it was infuriating. If it wasn’t for Long Yi exhausting the power of the Giant’s ring, struggling with all his might, completing it would have been a problem. Long Yi even questioned if this was really a graduation exam, and not a Magic Research test?
Soon, Ai Lin exited too. Seeing her smiling face, her results were probably good.
"How did it go?" Long Yi asked with concern.
"I graduated!" Ai Lin said. "What about you, Brother Long?"
"I graduated too!" Long Yi grumbled with frustration.
"Yay! To celebrate, let’s go to the most expensive elf restaurant!" Wesley suddenly proposed.
"Alright! It’s on me today! Let’s eat to our heart’s content!" Long Yi declared.
"I’m fine as long as I can get full." Isrile said with a smile.
Long Yi’s face immediately changed, trembling, he suggested: "Can we go somewhere else? The barbecue in the Red Dragon Empire always tastes good."
"No way! I remember giving this guy quite a lot of gold coins, today we are going to eat him out of house and home!" Wesley shouted.
Without saying a word, Isrile hoisted Long Yi up, and they all rushed out.
Outside the examination site, the dean, who looked like Gandalf, looked at the exam paper in front of him with a bitter smile, and confessed to Gav at his side: "My old friend, these test questions are all from the Magic Research Institute. If they couldn’t hold him back, it means I’ve done my best."
Gav looked at the test paper in front of him that looked like a cryptic manuscript, nodding his head, he said, "Even though it’s a bit earlier than expected, there shouldn’t be any problems considering the time difference from our expectations."
The dean sighed, "Now that Long Yi is finally free from the constraints of the academy, once he enters the Legion, he will certainly quickly establish his prestige. On one hand, our new Emperor Kirei listens to whatever Long Yi says, and on the other hand, the Legion will also be drawn into his massive sphere of influence. Moreover, the development of battle armor and the research of super Dragon Knight potions are all contributions from Long Yi. Soon, the entire country’s war machine will be solely depending on Long Yi. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, no one knows."
Gav watched Long Yi and the others leave, then withdrew his gaze, declaring, "It’s a good thing."
"How do you know?"
"Because, all of this is part of his plan."
"He? Which he?"
"In my opinion, is there any other ’he’?"
"I beg to be straightforward because I find it hard to believe that a person can foresee such a distant future before death."
"I too, was once a nonbeliever."
"From what you’ve just explained..." The dean laughed, "this makes me even more skeptical."
The elf restaurant, pure as white. No matter when you come here, it always remains spotlessly clean. Elves do not like renovations, once a style is set, it might stay the same for hundreds of years.
When Long Yi and his buddies arrived at the entrance, they suddenly realized something.
"Damn, I forget to bring the card!" Wesley widened his eyes and blurted out.
"Makes two of us. My old man took mine a long time ago!" The chef too responded surprised.
The elf restaurant operates on an invitation-only basis, only those with their invitation card can enter. Without the card, you can’t even get past the front door.
"Haha, I told you, we should’ve gone for roasted meat at the Red Dragon Empire. Although it’s also pricey, it beats in quantity and taste!" Long Yi, who was tucked under Ai Lin’s arm, squirmed and suggested.
"Out of the way, paupers!"
A voice suddenly echoed from behind them.
The so-labeled paupers turned their heads back only to see four young men, no more than teenagers. Their dressing suggested that they are from an affluent family, though they all had bitter faces when they looked at Long Yi.
"I asked you to get out of the way, didn’t you hear?"
The earlier speaker took the floor again. He’s short in stature, with golden short hair. There’s something vaguely familiar about his face.
"Oh? Isn’t this Mello from Hagrid’s family? How’s your brother Joseph doing?" Wesley smirked and sauntered over for the juicy gossip.
"Ha, as if. And who might you be? Wasn’t that Wesley who likes to peep at girls bathing?" Mello replied with a sarcastic smile plastered on his face.
"Exactly! I am that Wesley who took over 20% of your family business not too long ago." Wesley’s face creased into a broad smile, entirely nonchalant about being called a peeping tom.
Mello’s eyes twitched at Wesley’s words, hinting that it had got right under his skin. Just as he was about to explode, someone from the group placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping him.
Long Yi is here, and he is a member of the first echelon of combat forces of the White Dragon Empire.
Mello nodded, sarcasm resurfacing on his face.
"Move aside, you creep, don’t waste my time," Mello said.
Wesley laughed and said: "Come on guys, let’s give way to the bigshot--"
The crowd immediately parted to make way for Mello. As Mello passed by the crowd, his eyes kept twitching as he could feel the substantial pressure emanating from all sides - Ai Lin, Long Yi, Isrile, Wesley, and even the chef.
Those who have been on the battlefield are entirely different from those who have not.
Mello took out his card, a beam scanned it over, and the door opened, allowing the four to go in. They turned back before the door closed completely, their faces full of mockery.
In any country, being able to enter the elf restaurant is an absolute symbol of status and wealth.
"Ahem, sister, could you let me down?" Long Yi, after zigzagging repeatedly, felt dizzy and had to interrupt Isrile’s fun.
Isrile responded: "Sorry, you’re so light that I forgot."
Long Yi was close to tears. Was he really that lightweight?
Compared to Isrile, who measures her weight in tons, he was indeed ’light’, a poor little guy who still measures his weight in pounds.
Regardless of what Isrile thinks, Long Yi looked at the door. He figured he was on reasonably good terms with elves, and there must be some privileges, right?
While he was contemplating, he felt a slight vibration in his chest. He took out what was throbbing - it was the battle pendant given to him by the elven queen. This little thing had been hanging around his neck for a long time, it hadn’t been lost even though Long Yi had several brushes with death. He never discovered any particular use for it until now.
As soon as the pendant came out, a beam of light quickly scanned it, and the door opened immediately.
Could this work too?
