Chapter 1530: Chapter 1182: The Ashen-skinned Emperor
"I’ve also acquired the Worm’s information just now," Elsa said, "about this nest, it doesn’t know much, but it does know where the Emperor has hidden that secret. However, this is of no use, after all, only the Emperor himself can open it."
The Worm fluctuations from Long Yi slowly decreased, the threat temporarily vanishing, finally allowing the Emperor to breathe a sigh of relief. But at the next moment, a headband was placed on the Emperor’s white, bulbous head.
After a brief moment of dizziness, the Emperor touched the headband, asking anxiously, "What is this, what are you going to do!"
Long Yi said with a smile, "You should be able to tell, this is the headband you were going to have us wear, only we modified it slightly. Its function is simple, firstly, it will prevent you from merging with the Emperor’s consciousness; secondly, it will stop you from leaving the Emperor’s consciousness; lastly, it will prevent you from using any psychic Magic."
Upon hearing this, the Worm’s first reaction was disbelief. Distrusting and questioning everything was the Divine Worm’s instinct. It merely tried a psychic Magic spell, when suddenly a sharp pain surged through it, followed by the shocking realization that it had temporarily lost control of its body! The Emperor’s body fell stiffly to the ground.
"We have no reason or interest in deceiving you, you’d better believe us. Surrender your secrets to me obediently, and I might allow you to live a few more days. If you’re lucky, I might even let you fuse with the Emperor’s consciousness, helping you to unify the entire Plane is not out of the question," Long Yi said.
The Emperor thought that, sooner or later, his death was inevitable. Even if Henki let him go now, once he obtained the nest, his death was certain. However, there was one way to avoid this deadly fate—to merge with the Emperor’s consciousness.
The Divine Worm was originally a fragment of consciousness; once it merged with the Emperor’s consciousness, it would lose most of its abilities as a Worm. It would share life and death with this body, unable to parasitize other lives.
But, it could live. If it were lucky to invent some technology to prolong life, it could live for a very long time.
"Can I trust your words?" the Emperor asked.
"That depends entirely on how cooperative you are," Long Yi replied.
"I understand," the Emperor nodded, no longer speaking.
As a Worm, he was inevitably unwilling, but he could not think of any way out of his current predicament for now, so he had to obey obediently for the time being, waiting for an opportunity.
The course of events was somewhat different than Long Yi had imagined. His original plan was to take direct control of the Emperor. However, the matter of the nest was more important, so for the time being, he would focus on the nest first.
The Emperor’s armored suit shattered, but he had new armor in his personal space. Long Yi examined the armor and finally found a very complicated device inside the cockpit, which apparently used an enlarged version of the headband technology. After a close examination, Long Yi discovered it was even based on Giant technology. Clearly, many Worms in this Plane had once stolen Giant technology for their own use. This technology even offered some defense against the Gluttonous Snake, which surprised Long Yi. Later, Long Yi secretly tested it, proving the defense was only a minor hindrance to the Gluttonous Snake for a few seconds. However, these few seconds might allow a Worm to escape, luckily Long Yi had restrained himself earlier and didn’t let the Gluttonous Snake attack immediately. It was also for this reason that he was now able to learn about the nest.
Under Long Yi’s surveillance, the Emperor quickly sorted out some of the domestic affairs. His greatest hope now was for Long Yi to allow him to merge with the Emperor, only then could he escape death, so he became even more dedicated to the Empire’s affairs than before. After arranging everything, he left the Empire’s planet with Long Yi and Elsa, under the guise of a secret patrol.
Unexpectedly, the secret was not hidden in the Plane of The Forgotten Ones. It was concealed in another Plane that Long Yi was familiar with: the Eye of the Ancestor.
After going around in a big circle, they came back.
Can you believe this?
The old Prophets of the Eye of the Ancestor greeted them, and they were indeed the familiar group who had welcomed Long Yi previously. Long Yi was certain that the Prophets had known he was coming all along, as their postures, positions, and the expressions on their faces hadn’t changed at all. Moreover, most importantly, when the Prophets looked at the Emperor, they looked at his chest, this was the standard etiquette of The Forgotten, because the chest was their actual location. But when they looked towards Long Yi and Elsa, they really looked at their eyes, clearly, they knew everything.
"Prophets, I have come to reclaim what I entrusted to you ten years ago," the Emperor said.
Ten years?
"I’m tempted to punch someone," Long Yi said.
"So am I," Elsa added.
If the thing had been here ten years ago, then both Elsa’s and Long Yi’s visits should have revealed its presence, couldn’t they just be forthright about it?
Clearly, that was not in line with the Prophets’ doctrine. That’s just how the Prophets were, even if they foresaw their impending deaths, they would never dodge, because in their view, what was meant to happen would inevitably happen, and there was no point in fruitlessly trying to change it.
